When a newborn infant is born, blood and qi coagulate in the mouth, extending upward to form blisters on the tongue resembling boils or shaped like reed tubes. This condition is called Xuan Yong (Hanging Abscess), also known as Chui Yong (Drooping Abscess). Whenever this occurs, one should urgently use a needle wrapped in cotton, leaving only the needle tip exposed, about the size of a millet grain, to puncture the blister and drain the yellowish-red bloody fluid. Then wash with salt water, and apply Yi Zi San (One-Character Powder) or Ru Sheng San (Like-Sage Powder) mixed with honey using a goose feather brush. If it does not subside after one puncture, puncture again the next day; after no more than a few times, it will naturally disappear completely.
Yi Zi San (One-Character Powder)
Cinnabar (Zhu Sha), Borax (Peng Sha) (each 5 fen), Borneol (Bing Pian) (a small amount)
Grind the above into fine powder, mix with a small amount of honey, and brush into the mouth with a goose feather. It is harmless if swallowed.
Ru Sheng San (Like-Sage Powder)
Real Lead White (Zhen Qian Fen), Realgar (Niu Huang - *Note: Niu Huang usually refers to Calculus Bovis, but text says Zhen Qian Fen then Niu Huang, likely distinct ingredients*), Chen Sha (Vermilion), Tai Yin Xuan Jing Shi (Taiyin Black Crystal Stone)
Grind each into fine powder in equal proportions, and sprinkle onto the affected area in the mouth.

Xiao Er Luo Li (Pediatric Scrofula) is caused by long-standing latent accumulated heat in the zang-fu organs, leading to nodules appearing in the tendons and vessels of the neck and under the chin, initially resembling young plums or medlars. These gradually increase in number, termed Luo Li. Luo Li refers to tubercles. They may appear behind the ear, in front of the ear, below the ear, connecting to the jaw and neck; or below the neck connecting to the supraclavicular fossa, all referred to as Luo Li. Those on the chest front and sides, or in the two hypochondriac regions, are called Ma Dao Chuang (Horse Knife Sores), governed by the Hand-Shaoyang and Foot-Shaoyang meridians.
San Jie Tang (Scatter-Knot Decoction): For pediatric tubercles forming Luo Li, first use this formula.
Forsythiae Fructus (Lian Qiao), Prunella Vulgaris (Jie Geng Shao - *Note: Text says Jie Geng Shao, likely Pedicel of Platycodon*), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gan Cao Shao), Fritillariae Bulbus (Bei Mu), Trichosanthis Radix (Tian Hua Fen), Astragali Radix (Huang Qi), Rheum Palmatum (Da Huang), Scrophulariae Radix (Xuan Shen), Aurantii Fructus (Qing Pi), Paeoniae Radix Rubra (Chi Shao Yao) (all in equal proportions)
Cut the above into pieces. Take 4 qian per dose, add 1.5 cups of water and 20 stalks of Juncus effusus (Deng Xin), decoct until reduced to 0.6 parts. Administer after meals, late in the evening before sleep.
Hu Pi San (Oak Bark Powder): For painful pediatric Luo Li, use this for washing.
Quercus variabilis bark (Hu Pi) (remove coarse bark; this tree is found everywhere, specifically the tree that wraps Yi leaves). Use any amount, cut into pieces, decoct in water, and wash frequently with warm liquid.
Bai Ji San (Bletilla Powder): Treats Luo Li that has already ulcerated, with non-drying pus discharge.
Bletillae Rhizoma (Bai Ji), Fritillariae Bulbus (Bei Mu) (each 0.5 liang), Calomelas (Qing Fen) (1 qian)
Grind the above into fine powder. First wash with Hu Pi San, then mix with pure sesame oil and apply externally.
The remaining methods for treating Luo Li are largely the same as those for adults, differing only in dosage adjustments based on the child's size and deficiency/excess patterns.
