According to *Youke Fa Hui* (Enlightenment for Pediatrics): In children, extreme emaciation and thinness are termed "Gan Lao" (Wasting-Thirst Syndrome). A bluish-white coloration of the pulse pattern on the tiger's mouth (the radial aspect of the thumb) indicates Gan syndrome.
For all types of Gan syndrome, the primary treatments include Jiawei Fei'er Wan (Modified Fattening Child Pill), Huanglian Fei'er Wan (Coptis Fattening Child Pill), Tongshen Wan (Spirit-Connecting Pill), and Kepi Wan (Toad Skin Pill). For Re Gan (Heat Gan), Muxiang Wan (Aucklandia Pill) is used. For Wai Gan (External Gan), characterized by sores around the ears and nose, Lanxiang San (Rotting Incense Powder) is applied. For Xin Gan (Heart Gan), Fushen Wan (Poria Spirit Pill) and Qianshi Anshen Wan (Master Qian's Calming Spirit Pill) are prescribed. For Gan Gan (Liver Gan), Shengdi Huang Tang (Rehmannia Decoction) and Tianma Wan (Gastrodia Pill) are used. For Pi Gan (Spleen Gan), Qianshi Yihuang San (Master Qian's Spleen-Strengthening Powder) is indicated. For Fei Gan (Lung Gan), Qingfei Yin (Lung-Clearing Drink), Huachong Wan (Worm-Transforming Pill), and Qianshi Ejiao San (Master Qian's Donkey-Hide Gelatin Powder) are employed. For Shen Gan (Kidney Gan), Dihuang Wan (Rehmannia Pill) is used. Each type should be treated according to its specific category; one must not prescribe medications arbitrarily. Even a slight deviation can lead to untreatable consequences.
