典藏书目

The first type is Heat. The *Classic of Internal Medicine* (*Huangdi Neijing*) states: "When Heat prevails, it leads to strangury and retention." It also states: "When the Shaoyin (Lesser Yin) qi rebounds, there will be discomfort in the diaphragm and intestines." The second type is Cold. The *Classic* states: "When Taiyang (Greater Yang) qi arrives, it manifests as alternating flow/leakage and obstruction." The third type is Dampness. The *Classic* states: "When Tainyin (Greater Yin) governs the year, excessive Dampness causes diseases such as difficult defecation."

Zhaohai (KI6) (Moxibustion: three moxa cones; reducing method) Zhangmen (LR13) (Acupuncture: reference quantity equivalent to two sets of seven needles/cones) Taibai (SP3) (Moxibustion: three moxa cones; reducing method) Qihai (CV6) (Acupuncture) Zusanli (ST36) (Acupuncture)

The *Classic of Internal Medicine* states: "Jing (Essence) is the root of the body, the source of Shengqi (Vital Qi), and transforms from Sui (Marrow)." It further states: "When Yin is peaceful and Yang is secure, Jing Shen (Spirit) functions normally; when Yin and Yang separate and rupture, Jing Shen becomes exhausted." It also states: "The Kidney receives and stores the essence of the five zang and six fu organs; it is the convergence point of Yin and Yang." Therefore, the storage and regulation of Jing reside in the Kidney, while its mastery lies in the Heart. Furthermore, it states: "In ancient times, those who understood the Dao followed the laws of Yin and Yang, harmonized with proper techniques, regulated their diet, maintained regular daily routines, and avoided reckless exertion. Thus, they could keep their Xing (Form) and Shen (Spirit) together and complete their natural lifespan. By remaining tranquil and void of desires, True Qi follows them. With Jing Shen guarded within, how could disease arise?"

The five zang and six fu organs all possess Jing Qi, but the Kidney is the hub for gathering, controlling, and transmitting these essences, and the execution of these functions obeys the command of the Heart. The Heart is the Minister Fire (Jun Huo), and the Kidney is the Ministerial Fire (Xiang Huo). Since Ministerial Fire executes the commands of Minister Fire, although the pathology may manifest in the Kidney, the root responsibility lies in the Heart. The Heart masters Shen (Spirit); when Shen moves erratically, Jing leaks out.

The first type is nocturnal emission during dreams of sexual intercourse, caused by blazing Heart Fire and deficient Heart Shen. The second type is spontaneous emission due to deficiency and collapse of the lower origin (Xiayuan), where Jing cannot be controlled, caused by Kidney deficiency leading to slippery Jing. The third type occurs in vigorous youth with abundant Qi, after long abstinence from sexual desire, causing stagnation in the meridians and vessels, resulting in emission—similar to a surplus overflowing in an unmarried man. The fourth type involves emotional stirring within, where unfulfilled wishes lead to emission, caused by frustrated emotions and unmet desires. The fifth type is nocturnal emission due to stagnation of Damp-Heat, such as the use of Zhuling Wan (Polyporus Pill) or Qingzhou Baizhi Wan (Qingzhou White Pill) as described in *Bencao Gangmu*. For those in vigorous youth with abundant Qi and internal emotional stirring, soothing the emotions allows self-healing, and medication may not even be necessary. However, for emissions occurring during dream intercourse, one must treat the deficiency of the Heart and Kidney; for slippery Jing, one must tonify the Kidney. This is called knowing the root, and this is the highest level of treatment.
