Treats excess heat in the Lung Qi, characterized by coughing and wheezing, facial edema, and fever.
Sangbaipi (Mori Cortex), Digupi (Lycii Cortex), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma).
Decoct in water and take orally.
Ji Chuzhong stated: The *Classic of Internal Medicine* (*Huangdi Neijing*) records: "The Lung dislikes rebellious Qi." When Qi rebels upward, it causes stagnation and heat in the Upper Jiao. Qi stagnation generates phlegm-saliva, and fire stagnation generates heat. Consequently, the Lung's regulatory function fails.
(Note: The original text contains gaps/errors here. Based on context and formula principles, the logic implies nourishing Kidney Water to clear Lung Metal; Gancao tonifies Spleen Earth to harmonize the middle, and generates Qi to drain fire. By tonifying Spleen Earth (Mother of Metal) to nourish Lung Metal (Child), draining excess and tonifying deficiency are interwoven, allowing Metal Qi to correct itself. This assists Sangbaipi in resolving the stagnation of Qi, achieving unobstructed flow. This is far superior to using bitter-cold herbs like Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) or Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) which damage the Stomach.) Regarding heat-fire damaging Qi, there are three approaches to treating the Lung: First, when pathogenic heat from Cold Damage insults the Lung, Baihu Tang (White Tiger Decoction) is used to relieve irritability; this treats the branch (symptoms). Second, in internal disorders where deficient fire scorches Yin, Shengmai San (Generate the Pulse Powder) is used to benefit Yin; this treats the root (cause). Third, if healthy Qi is not damaged but stagnant fire is severe, Xiebai San (Drain the White Powder) clears Lung heat and regulates the middle, treating both root and branch, thereby supplementing the deficiencies of the previous two formulas.
Treats Yin deficiency with hyperactive fire, bone-steaming tidal fever that is milder during the day and worse at night; women with heat entering the Blood Chamber, or fever occurring before pregnancy.
Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) added with Digupi (Lycii Cortex) and Mudanpi (Moutan Cortex) (each 3 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally.
Ke Yunbo stated: In cases of Yin deficiency, Yang inevitably intrudes upon Yin, thus causing fever. Zhang Zhongjing said: "When Yin is weak, fever occurs." When Yang Qi sinks and enters into Yin, fever must occur.
