What are "Qi Ji" (Strange and Urgent) conditions? For any disease, one must examine the complexion and pulse, and inspect the exterior and interior. However, in a sudden emergency, there is no time for such examination; one does not know which meridian is affected nor what specific syndrome is present. Hence, they are termed "Qi" (Strange).
First, rescue from hanging. Slowly embrace the person and untie them. Do not use a knife or scissors to cut the rope. Place the person on a laid-out quilt, lay them flat, gently align the throat, cover their mouth and nose with your hand, and blow air into the chest and abdomen using a bamboo tube.
Second, rescue from drowning. First, pry open the victim's mouth with a knife. Insert a chopstick horizontally between the teeth to keep the mouth open and facilitate water drainage. Then, have a strong man kneel and lie supine, placing the victim's abdomen over the rescuer's navel area to allow water to drain out.
Third, rescue from freezing. This applies to those who fall into water in winter but still have faint breath. Remove wet clothes, then immediately wrap the victim in warm clothes taken from a living person. Use rice stir-fried until hot, placed in a cloth bag, to apply heat (moxibustion-like warming) to the heart region until breath returns.
Fourth, rescue from crushing or falling injuries. For those who appear dead from falls or crushing but whose heart region remains warm, urgently help them sit up. Pull their hair upward with one hand, and blow powdered raw Pinellia Rhizoma (Sheng Banxia) into the nasal cavity. They will revive shortly.
Fifth, rescue from sudden death due to evil qi or sleep paralysis (Yan). Do not approach closely or shout loudly. Instead, spit on their face. If they do not wake, bite their heel and thumb, slightly move their position, and call out to them slowly.
One formula: For drowning, hanging, or Yan death, urgently take fresh Chinese Chive Juice (Jiucai), crush it, and drip it into the nose. If Powdered Saponaria Root (Zaojiao) and Moschus (Shexiang) are added and administered together, the effect is even more rapid.
Sixth, rescue from self-inflicted severed throat. Self-mutilation is a rapid change requiring early intervention. Delay means the forehead becomes cold and breath ceases, making rescue impossible. Upon initial injury, urgently use oil... [text missing] ... woman ... knife ... soup ... Urgently use thick Scallion Soup (Cong Tang). Dip soft silk in the soup to wash the wound, wipe dry. Use KT Zi Jiao (likely a typo or specific tool name) to pick up Yuhong Gao (Jade Red Ointment). (Formula see Surgery Vol. 33). Melt it in the palm of the hand and press it onto the wound. Cover with thin slices of old cotton wool. Externally, apply long black plaster bandages, crossing and tying securely around so as not to detach. On both sides of the throat incision, apply long plasters (4 cun long, 2 cun wide) vertically at the ends, adhering to healthy flesh to prevent detachment. Finally, wrap with silk bands three times, stitching the head. In winter, change dressings every three days; in summer, every two days, washing with scallion soup and replacing medicine. Naturally, pain will cease, and flesh will gradually grow and heal from both ends. Internally, administer Bazhen Tang (Eight Treasures Decoction). (Formula see... Day. Single...)
