Take a large bunch of scallions, mash them into a cake with a thickness of approximately one finger's width. Apply it to the breast, and cover the scallions with a jar of hot ashes. After a short while, when sweating occurs, the swelling and pain will disappear immediately.
Mix aged earthworm feces with mature vinegar and apply the mixture to the affected area; it will heal immediately.
Dust the affected area with rice flour from early-season rice; the skin will regenerate naturally. This is highly effective.
Immediately instruct a woman to rinse her mouth with hot water, then suckle the infant's anterior chest, posterior back, and areas below the umbilicus several times until the milk flow is unobstructed.
This is due to fetal heat. Take one stalk of white part of scallion, cut it into four slices, decoct in milk, and divide into four doses to be taken quickly.
This indicates that heat has transmitted to the Heart and Lungs; cold-natured medicines should not be used. Mix five to seven spoonfuls of juice of Rehmanniae Radix (Shengdi Huang), half a spoonful of wine, and half a spoonful of honey, and take orally.
If bleeding or swollen, stiff sensations occur, this is termed Slow Liver Wind. Apply Gallus Boar Bile (Zhu Dan) to roasted Licorice Root (Zhi Gancao), grind into powder, and take with milk.
Apply urine from a turtle to massage its chest and back; after a long time, it will recover.
To obtain turtle urine: place the turtle in a clay basin, shine a mirror upon it, causing it to urinate involuntarily; collect it immediately with a vessel. Alternatively, prick its nose with pig bristles to induce urination.
Burn Portulaca Oleracea (Machi Xian) to ash, grind into powder, and apply externally.
Mume Fructus (Wumei)
Decoct and administer orally; it will heal.
If Umbilical Tetanus (Qi Feng) occurs, observe if there is a raised blue vein above the infant's umbilicus extending upward toward the heart region. If this vein reaches the heart region, only one in ten can be saved. Observe whether this vein has not yet reached the heart region; if so, moxibustion with an ai cone should be applied to the head of this blue vein. The vein will immediately retract downward by about one cun. Continue moxibustion on the new head of the retracted vein; the vein will dissipate, and the disease will cure. This method has proven effective repeatedly.
Any sores appearing in infants within the first hundred days are called Postpartum Sores (Ru Chuang), caused by fetal toxins, also known as Toxic Sores. If the sores spread gradually from the body to the head, covering the eyebrows completely with scabs, they tend to heal. If they spread from the head down to the abdomen, they are difficult to treat. Administer Rhinoceros Horn Pill (Xijiao Wan).
Ingredients: Calculus Bovis (Niuhuang), Cornu Rhinocerotis (Xijiao), Cornu Saigae Tataricae (Lingyangjiao), Scorpio (Quanxie, washed in wine), Bombyx Batryticatus (Jiangcan, stir-fried), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng), Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix (Qianghuo), Gastrodia Elata (Tianma), Cannabis Seed (Huangma - *Note: likely typo for Tianma or similar, kept as literal*), Arisaema Cum Bile (Danning), Cochlearia Fructus (Tianzhuhuang), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian), Jing Ink (Jingmo, processed until slight smoke appears).
Each ingredient weighs three qian. Grind into fine powder, mix with paste made from steamed dough balls to form pills the size of Euryale Seed (Qianshi). Coat with Cinnabar (Zhusha) and Gold Leaf. Take one pill per dose, washed down with Mint Decoction (Bohe Tang).
Regarding external applications, there is a fear that toxins may penetrate inward and cause other ailments. It is advisable to wear cloth garments boiled in medicinal decoction. Make two small clothes from green cloth, boil them together with the medicine, dry in the shade, and wear them morning and evening. Re-boil until cured. The herbs for boiling the clothes consist of four ingredients: Rheum Palmatum (Dahuang), eight liang; Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao), four liang; Angelica Sinensis (Danggui), two liang; Natrii Sulfas (Puxiao), two liang.
The nursing mother should take ten doses of the following decoction:
Sophorae Flavescentis Radix (Kushen, 2 qian); Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix (Qianghuo, 8 fen); Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 4 fen); Forsythiae Fructus (Lianqiao); Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng); Schizonepetae Spica (Jingjie); Arctii Fructus (Niubangzi, ground); Lonicerae Japonicae Flos (Jinyinhua, each 1 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally. Avoid consuming chicken, goose, mutton, fish, leeks, scallions, garlic, etc. Alcohol should be consumed sparingly.
