论曰消渴之病，本于肾气不足，下焦虚热，若病久不愈者，邪热蕴积，营卫涩滞。精血
衰微，病多传变，宜知慎忌，凡忌有三，一饮酒，二房室，三咸食及面。又消渴病经百日以
上者，当忌灸刺，若灸刺则疮上漏水，变成痈疽矣。

论述说：消渴病，根本原因在于肾气不足，下焦虚热。如果病情长久不愈，邪热蕴结积聚，导致营卫之气运行涩滞。精血衰微，疾病多会发生传变，应当知晓并谨慎禁忌。凡是有三种禁忌：一是饮酒，二是房事，三是食用咸味食物及面食。另外，消渴病经过一百天以上的，应当禁止艾灸和针刺，如果进行灸刺，疮口会流出水液，进而变成痈疽。
治疗久患消渴，饮水不止的方剂：肾沥汤方
远志（去除心部） 人参 泽泻 熟干地黄（焙干） 桂枝（去除粗皮） 当归（切片焙干） 赤茯苓（去除黑皮）
以上十二味药，粗捣筛过，每次服用五钱匕，用水三盏，先煮一只羊肾，取二盏汁，去掉羊肾放入药物。加上大枣三枚劈破，生姜半两切片，一同煎煮取一盏半汁，去渣分两次温服，不限时候。
治疗久患消渴的方剂：麦门冬丸方
麦门冬（去除心部焙干） 赤茯苓（去除黑皮） 黄连（去除须根） 黄芩（去除黑心） 石膏 葳蕤 人参 升麻 龙胆 栝蒌根 枳壳（去除瓤麸炒） 生姜（切片焙干） 枸杞根皮（洗净切片各一两）
以上十三味药，捣碎过罗成末，用炼蜜调和做成丸药，如梧桐子大小，每次服用三十丸。用粟米饮送下，不限时候。
治疗久患消渴不止的方剂：升麻丸方
升麻 黄芩（去除黑心） 麦门冬（去除心焙干各五两） 生干地黄（焙干三两） 栝蒌根（七两） 苦参
以上九味药，捣碎过罗成末，用新鲜牛乳汁调和，众人快速搓丸，如梧桐子大小，晒干，每次服用三十丸，用粟米饮送下，不限时候服用，逐渐增加至五十丸。
治疗久患消渴体内干燥，引水饮用不止的方剂：黄连散方
黄连（去除须根） 白石脂（研细各一两半） 铅丹（研细一两） 栝蒌根（三两）
以上四味药，捣碎研细过罗成细散，每次服用二钱匕，用浆水调服，每日三次。
治疗肾虚燥热久患消渴不止的方剂：泽泻丸方
泽泻 肉苁蓉（酒浸切片焙干） 五味子 禹余粮（醋淬七遍） 巴戟天（去除心部） 当归（切片焙干） 甘草（炙制锉碎）
以上十五味药，捣碎研细过罗成末，用炼蜜做成如梧桐子大小的丸药，每次服用三十丸，用牛乳汁送下，不限时候。
治疗消渴经年饮水不止的方剂：白石英丸方
白石英（单独研细） 芒硝（单独研细） 凝水石（单独研细各二两） 赤茯苓（去除黑皮） 人参 地骨皮 泽泻 苦参 甘草（炙制锉碎） 麦门冬（去除心焙干各三两）
以上十味药，除单独研细的外，其余捣碎过罗成末，混合研匀，用炼蜜做成如梧桐子大小的丸药，每次服用三十丸，温水送下，不限时候服用。
治疗久患消渴，饮水不止的方剂：葵根汤方
经霜冻的冬葵根皮（数量不限，细切焙干）
以上一味药，粗捣筛过，每次服用三钱匕，用水一盏，煎至七分，去渣温服，不限时候。
治疗久患消渴，经年饮水无度的方剂：水银丸方
水银 铅（醋碎各半两） 柳絮矾（三分先细研，次入水银并铅三味和研匀，以瓷盒盛放，外用纸筋泥密封固定，安放在灰火内煅养半天，取出候冷再研细） 豉（炒制） 铅丹（研细） 白僵蚕（炒制） 黄连（去除须根各半两）
以上七味药，将后四味做成末，与前三种药再次研匀，用糯米糊做成丸药，如梧桐子大小，每次服用二十丸。温水送下，空腹时于半夜和睡前服用。
治疗久患消渴，饮水不止的方剂：苦参丸方
苦参（二两） 黄连（去除须根） 栝蒌根 知母（焙干） 麦门冬（去除心焙干） 人参 牡蛎 黄芪（锉碎） 生干地黄（焙干各一两）
以上九味药，捣碎过罗成末，用牛乳汁调和，众人快速搓丸，如梧桐子大小，每次服用三十丸，用浆水送下。不限时候。
Commentary states: The disease of Xiao Ke (Wasting and Thirsting Syndrome) originates from insufficiency of Kidney Qi and deficient heat in the Lower Jiao. If the illness persists without cure, pathogenic heat accumulates, causing stagnation and sluggishness of Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi. Essence and blood become depleted, and the disease tends to transmit and change; one must be aware of and strictly observe contraindications. There are three main prohibitions: first, drinking alcohol; second, sexual activity; third, consuming salty foods and wheat products. Furthermore, for Xiao Ke patients who have been ill for more than a hundred days, moxibustion and acupuncture should be prohibited. If moxibustion or acupuncture is performed, water will leak from the sores, transforming into carbuncles and ulcers.
Formula for treating chronic Xiao Ke with incessant thirst: Shen Li Tang (Kidney Decoction)
Polygalae Radix (Zhiyuan, heart removed), Ginseng Radix (Renshen), Alismatis Rhizoma (Zexie), Prepared Rehmanniae Radix (Shu Dihuang, baked), Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guizhi, coarse bark removed), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, sliced and baked), Poria Cum Radix (Chifuling, black skin removed).
Twelve ingredients above. Coarsely crush and sieve. Take five qianbi per dose. Add three zhan of water. First, boil one sheep kidney, reduce to two zhan, remove the kidney, then add the herbs. Add three cracked jujubes, half liang of sliced ginger. Simmer together to obtain one and a half zhan. Strain and divide into two warm doses. Take at any time.
Formula for treating chronic Xiao Ke: Maidong Wan (Ophiopogon Pill)
Ophiopogonis Radix (Maidong, heart removed and baked), Poria Cum Radix (Chifuling, black skin removed), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian, roots removed), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin, black center removed), Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao), Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma (Weirou), Ginseng Radix (Renshen), Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma), Gentianae Radix (Longdan), Trichosanthis Radix (Gualougen), Aurantii Fructus Pericarpium (Zhike, pith removed, stir-fried with bran), Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang, sliced and baked), Lycii Cortex Radicis (Gouqigenpi, washed and sliced, each one liang).
Thirteen ingredients above. Pound and sift into powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take thirty pills per dose. Swallow with millet drink. Take at any time.
Formula for treating persistent chronic Xiao Ke: Shengma Wan (Cimicifuga Pill)
Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin, black center removed), Ophiopogonis Radix (Maidong, heart removed and baked, each five liang), Raw Dried Rehmanniae Radix (Sheng Gan Dihuang, baked, three liang), Trichosanthis Radix (Gualougen, seven liang), Sophorae Flavescentis Radix (Kushen).
Nine ingredients above. Pound and sift into powder. Mix with fresh bovine milk juice. Form pills quickly by hand, the size of paulownia seeds. Dry in the sun. Take thirty pills per dose. Swallow with millet drink. Take at any time. Gradually increase to fifty pills.
Formula for treating chronic Xiao Ke with internal dryness and incessant drinking: Huanglian San (Coptis Powder)
Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian, roots removed), Halloysit Rubra (Baishizhi, ground, each one and a half liang), Minium (Qiandan, ground, one liang), Trichosanthis Radix (Gualougen, three liang).
Four ingredients above. Pound, grind, and sift into fine powder. Take two qianbi per dose. Mix with fermented grain liquid (Jiangshui) and swallow. Take three times daily.
Formula for treating chronic Xiao Ke due to Kidney deficiency and dryness: Zexie Wan (Alisma Pill)
Alismatis Rhizoma (Zexie), Cynomorii Herba (Roucongrong, soaked in wine, sliced and baked), Schisandrae Fructus (Wuweizi), Yiyu Liang (Yuyuliang, quenched in vinegar seven times), Morindae Officinalis Radix (Bajitian, heart removed), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, sliced and baked), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, roasted and cut).
Fifteen ingredients above. Pound and grind into powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take thirty pills per dose. Swallow with bovine milk juice. Take at any time.
Formula for treating Xiao Ke lasting years with incessant drinking: Baishiying Wan (White Quartz Pill)
Quartzum Album (Baishiying, separately ground), Mirabilite (Mangxiao, separately ground), Stilbitum (Ningshuishi, separately ground, each two liang), Poria Cum Radix (Chifuling, black skin removed), Ginseng Radix (Renshen), Lycii Cortex Radicis (Digupi), Alismatis Rhizoma (Zexie), Sophorae Flavescentis Radix (Kushen), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, roasted and cut), Ophiopogonis Radix (Maidong, heart removed and baked, each three liang).
Ten ingredients above. Except for those separately ground, pound and sift into powder. Mix evenly. Combine with refined honey to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take thirty pills per dose. Swallow with warm water. Take at any time.
Formula for treating chronic Xiao Ke with incessant drinking: Kuigen Tang (Malva Root Decoction)
Winter Malva Root Bark (Jingshuang Dongkuigenpi, amount unspecified, finely cut and baked).
One ingredient above. Coarsely crush and sieve. Take three qianbi per dose. Add one zhan of water. Boil until reduced to seventy percent. Strain and take warm. Take at any time.
Formula for treating chronic Xiao Ke with uncontrolled drinking over years: Shuiyin Wan (Mercury Pill)
Hydrargyrum (Shuiyin), Plumbum (Qian, crushed in vinegar, each half liang), Alum (Liuxufan, three fen, first finely ground, then mixed with mercury and lead, ground uniformly, stored in a porcelain jar, sealed with paper and clay, calcined in ash fire for half a day, taken out, cooled, and finely ground again), Phaseoli Semen (Chi, fried), Minium (Qiandan, ground), Bombyx Batryticatus (Baijiangcan, fried), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian, roots removed, each half liang).
Seven ingredients above. Make the last four ingredients into powder. Mix with the first three ingredients and grind uniformly. Use glutinous rice paste to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take twenty pills per dose. Swallow with warm water. Take on an empty stomach at midnight and before sleep.

Sophorae Flavescentis Radix (Kushen, two liang), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian, roots removed), Trichosanthis Radix (Gualougen), Anemarrhenae Rhizoma (Zhimu, baked), Ophiopogonis Radix (Maidong, heart removed and baked), Ginseng Radix (Renshen), Ostrea Concha (Muli), Astragali Radix (Huangqi, cut), Raw Dried Rehmanniae Radix (Sheng Gan Dihuang, baked, each one liang).
