Commentary states: Xiao Ke (Wasting and Thirsting Syndrome) is characterized by frequent and copious urination; whatever water is drunk is immediately excreted, hence it is named "Ke Li" (Thirst with Urination). This is likely caused by the consumption of small amounts of mineral drugs (Shi Shi) and excessive sexual activity, leading to Kidney Deficiency and depletion of Essence. Heat Qi remains exclusively in the body, causing the Kidney to become dry, resulting in thirst and a desire to drink. Due to Kidney Deficiency failing to control Water, the ingested fluid is quickly discharged through urination. If the disease persists for a long time, Body Fluids are exhausted, meridians become obstructed and stagnant, and Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi fail to circulate smoothly. Stagnant Heat Qi will inevitably transform into sores and pus.
