It is stated that all kinds of Gan diseases (pediatric malnutrition syndrome) are caused by the excessive consumption of rich and sweet foods. Generally, the Zang-Fu organs and Qi-Blood nourish each other; upon encountering sweet substances, the Middle Jiao (middle burner/central digestive system) becomes relaxed, causing the circulation of Ying (Nutritive Qi) and Wei (Defensive Qi) to slow down. Consequently, various worms are generated between the Zang-Fu organs. They resemble silk hairs or horse tails. By eroding the Zang-Fu organs, they cause pediatric Gan disease. Upon treatment with medicine, these worms will naturally be expelled, either from the head and neck or from the abdomen and back. If the worms are yellow, white, or red in color, the condition is treatable; if they are green or black, it is untreatable.
