Shangxing (GV23) is located one cun above the hairline, directly above the nose. Moxibustion of five moxa cones is applied. *Puji Zhenjiu Fa* states: It governs fright and terror caused by evil spirits, weeping; also, in the center of the lips where the skin is taut, three moxa cones are applied to govern delirious speech caused by evil ghosts.
For sudden possession by evil spirits, presenting with trance, tremors, and lockjaw, moxibustion is applied to Renzhong (GV26) below the nose, and at the base of the nails of the great toes of both hands and feet. The moxa cone should be half on the nail and half on the flesh, seven cones for each site. If symptoms persist, fourteen cones are applied. The moxa cone should be the size of a sparrow's droppings.
To treat possession by evil spirits, one hundred moxa cones are applied one cun into the hairline. Additionally, fifty cones are applied to Jianshi (PC5) and the palm. To treat fox-spirit possession, the thumbs are bound together, and thirty-seven cones are applied to the interdigital space. When the fox cries are heard, the disease will heal.
For sudden attack by ghost strikes, one moxa cone is applied to Renzhong (GV26), leading to immediate recovery. If not healed, moxibustion is continued. Additionally, seven cones are applied one cun above the umbilicus, and until healing is achieved at the white flesh border of both heels. Three cones are applied one cun below the umbilicus.
Biangting (GB9) consists of two acupoints. *Jia Yi Jing* states: The points are located in the depression between the second ribs below the costal cartilage; they are accessed by raising the axilla. Three moxa cones are applied to each point. They govern sudden attacks by Flying Corpse and Hidden Corpse pathogens, distension and fullness in the chest and hypochondrium, frequent upward rushing to the heart, vomiting, wheezing and counterflow, dry throat, and hypochondriac pain.
Moxibustion of seven times seven cones is applied to the stomach region. Additionally, fourteen cones (seven times two) are applied to the hairy area of the great toes of both feet (*Zhou Hou Fang* cites this as Hua Tuo's method, also used to rescue sudden death from malignant qi).
Fourteen moxa cones are applied three cun behind the nipple, left for men and right for women. If symptoms persist, the number of cones is increased. Additionally, sixty cones are applied three cun below the heart. Additionally, moxibustion is applied one cun below the nipple, on the side corresponding to the illness, increasing the number of cones until healing. Additionally, using the tips of the four fingers to locate the painful area, several cones are applied at the lower border of the finger. The patient is instructed to pinch their nose painfully at Renzhong (GV26), and also pinch one cun below the heart, increasing the number of cones until healing.
For sudden invasion and obstruction attacking the chest and heart, moxibustion is applied to the seventh thoracic vertebra, with the number of cones corresponding to the patient's age. Additionally, three cones are applied one cun below the heart. Additionally, several cones (corresponding to age) are applied to the elbow crease.
For all types of food-related miasma, moxibustion is applied to the tip of the little finger, with the number of cones corresponding to the patient's age, left for men and right for women. For Five Poisons Miasma, inability to eat, and various diseases, ten moxa cones are applied three cun below the heart in the stomach region. For Water Miasma causing daily gushing water, the classics state that Lung Qi overacts on Kidney Qi, causing vomiting of water after eating. Feishu (BL13) is moxibusted, as well as Sanyinjiao (SP6) and Qimen (LR14). Qimen is located in the intercostal space two ribs below the nipple, draining Lung Qi and tonifying Kidney Qi. The number of cones corresponds to the patient's age for each.
For all miasma regardless of new or old onset, the patient first lies supine. Moxibustion is applied three cun diagonally downward from the sides of both nipples, in the third intercostal space. The number of cones corresponds to the patient's age, up to three hundred cones. This also treats various Qi disorders and is highly effective, also known as Zhushi.
Bian Que said: For diseases caused by a hundred evils, there are thirteen needle points. Generally, needling begins at Guigong, then Guixin, then Guilei, then Guixin. It is not necessary to needle all points; knowing five or six points is sufficient. If it is the essence of evil gu, the patient may speak spontaneously. Once the reality is confirmed, it is not necessary to use all points; seek to remove it. Needling starts from the left for men and from the right for women. If several sites do not respond, needle all points. One must still follow the Palm Mantra to manipulate the eyes, ensuring no failure. The Yellow Emperor's Palm Mantra is a secret technique of practitioners. Its details are found between the joints of the ten fingers of both hands, already seen in the Chapter on Talismans and Spells. First needle: Renzhong (Guigong), insert from the left side, exit the right. Second needle: Under the nail of the thumb, named Guixin, insert three fen. Third needle: Under the nail of the great toe, named Guilei, insert two fen. Fourth needle: At the transverse crease of the palm, named Guixin, insert half cun (this is Taiyuan LU9). Fifth needle: At the white flesh border below the lateral malleolus, Foot Taiyang channel, named Guilu, fire needle seven times, three pricks (this is Shenmai BL62). Sixth needle: One cun above Dazhui (GV14) into the hairline, named Guizhen, fire needle seven times, three pricks. Seventh needle: In the depression at the hairline anterior to the ear, five fen below the earlobe, named Guichuang, fire needle seven times, three pricks. Eighth needle: Chengjiang (CV24), named Guishi, insert from left exit right. Ninth needle: Three cun above the transverse crease of the hand, between the two tendons, named Guilu (this is Laogong PC8). Tenth needle: One cun above the nose into the hairline, named Guitang, fire needle seven times, three pricks (this is Shangxing GV23). Eleventh needle: In the perineal seam, moxibustion of three cones; for women, this is Yutou, named Guicang. Twelfth needle: At the outer end of the transverse crease of Chize (LU5), connecting to the white flesh border, named Guichen, fire needle seven times, three pricks; this is Quchi LI11. Thirteenth needle: One cun into the tongue, at the lower seam of the middle of the tongue, pierce through to the top of the tongue, named Guifeng. Still, place a board across the mouth corners to secure the needle head, preventing tongue movement. Previously mentioned points involving hands and feet are needled bilaterally opposite points; isolated points are needled singly.
