Formula for treating Qi rushing upward with urgency and a sensation of impending collapse.
Evodiae Fructus (Wuzhuyu, 吴茱萸) one sheng; Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao, 石膏); Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen, 人参); Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum (Banxia, 半夏); Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong, 川芎) (each three qian); Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guixin, 桂心); Paeoniae Radix Alba (Shaoyao, 芍药); Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang, 生姜) (each four qian); Puerariae Lobatae Radix (Sheng Gegen, 生葛根).
The above twelve ingredients are cut into small pieces. Decoct with seven sheng of water and eight sheng of clear wine until three sheng remain. Divide into three doses.
Formula for treating incoherent and delirious speech, blurred vision, hallucinations of seeing ghosts, and mental confusion.
Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix (Fangji, 防己); Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草) (each two liang); Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guixin, 桂心); Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, 防风) (each three liang); Rehmanniae Radix Recens (Sheng Dihuang, 生地黄) five jin, sliced separately and not soaked with other herbs; if the condition is mild, use two jin.
The above five ingredients are cut into small pieces. Soak in one sheng of water overnight, then press to extract the juice. Spread the dregs on a bamboo mat, place the fresh Rehmannia root on top of the dregs. Steam over five dou of rice. Collect the expressed juice using a copper vessel. When the rice is cooked, mix this juice with the previously extracted herbal juice, press again, and divide into two doses.
Formula for treating palpitations due to fright, flaccidity of the four limbs, heat in the head and face, phlegm-fullness in the chest and heart, and vertigo as if about to fall.
Dioscoreae Rhizoma (Shuyao, 薯蓣); Ophiopogonis Radix (Maimendong, 麦门冬); Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen, 人参) (each four liang); Paeoniae Radix Alba (Shaoyao, 芍药); Rehmanniae Radix Recens (Sheng Dihuang, 生地黄); Peucedani Radix (Qianhu, 前胡) (each eight fen); Aurantii Fructus Immaturus (Zhishi, 枳实); Polygalae Radix (Yuanzhi, 远志); Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang, 生姜) (each three qian).
The above sixteen ingredients are cut into small pieces. Take river water, raise it high, and splash it down three hundred and ninety times. Measure three dou of this water to cook rice. When the water reduces by one dou, add Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum (Banxia, 半夏). When the water further reduces by nine sheng, strain off the dregs. Add the remaining herbs and decoct until four sheng remain. Divide into four doses. If river water is unavailable, use flowing water from a thousand-li distance moving eastward as a substitute.
If after taking the previous decoction the four limbs remain coolless and vertigo persists, this subsequent decoction is highly effective and should be taken regularly. Adjust the dosage slightly according to the cold or warm weather. If the condition does not resolve, adhere to this formula.
Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, 防风); Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao, 石膏); Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen, 人参); Halloysit Rubrum (Chishizhi, 赤石脂); Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang, 生姜); Os Draconis (Longgu, 龙骨); Metastabilis Gypsum (Hanshuishi, 寒水石); Halloysit Alba (Baishizhi, 白石脂); Poria (Fuling, 茯苓) (each three qian); Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guixin, 桂心) (two qian); Pyritum (Zhisshi, 紫石英).
The above eleven ingredients are cut into small pieces. Decoct with eight sheng of water until three sheng remain. Divide into three doses. Well water used should be the first draw from the well in the morning, chosen for its purity. River water is now preferred because it lacks mud and silt, originates from pure sources, flows naturally downstream towards the sea without reversing upstream, and when used to treat head disorders, its therapeutic action is guided downward.
