(Two treatises, seven prescriptions)
The treatise states: Baihe Bing (Lily Disease) refers to a condition where the meridians and all vessels, originating from one source, are simultaneously affected by pathogenic factors. This disease often arises after severe febrile diseases or consumptive disorders, when the body has not fully recovered its equilibrium following the illness. If the symptoms manifest as aversion to cold accompanied by vomiting, the pathology is located in the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner), and recovery is expected within twenty-three days. If the symptoms manifest as abdominal fullness, slight wheezing, hard stool with defecation occurring only once every three to four days, occasionally mixed with small amounts of loose stool, the pathology is located in the Middle Jiao (Middle Burner), and recovery is expected within sixty-three days. If the symptoms manifest as difficult, dribbling urination, the pathology is located in the Lower Jiao (Lower Burner), and recovery is expected within thirty-three days. Treatment should be administered according to the specific syndrome.
The symptoms of Baihe Bing include an desire to eat yet an inability to do so; at times finding food palatable, while at other times being averse to the smell of food; feeling as if there is cold when actually there is none, and feeling as if there is heat when actually there is none; remaining silent and desiring to lie down yet unable to sleep; until morning presenting with bitter taste in the mouth and dark, painful urination; desiring to walk yet lacking the strength to do so; various medicines fail to cure it, and improper treatment leads to severe vomiting and diarrhea, as if possessed by spirits. Patients with Baihe Bing appear physically normal, but their pulse is slightly rapid. Among the signs, if headache occurs immediately upon urination, recovery takes sixty days. If there is no headache during urination but rather a sensation of chilliness, recovery takes forty days. If urination feels comfortable but is accompanied by dizziness, recovery takes twenty days. Regarding the signs of Baihe Bing, if these signs appear before the onset of illness, or four to five days after onset, or even more than fifty days later, premature treatment may lead to errors; therefore, treatment must be based on the current syndrome.
The treatise further states: If Baihe Bing involves Yin and one attacks Yang, Yin cannot be resolved; inducing sweating in this context is contraindicated. If Baihe Bing involves Yang and one attacks Yin, Yang cannot be resolved; purging in this context will not cure the disease. (As stated in *Jin Gui Yao Lue*: For signs appearing in Yang, treat with Yang methods; for signs appearing in Yin, resolve with Yin methods. Attacking Yin while signs indicate Yang and then inducing sweating is contraindicated and difficult to treat. Attacking Yang while signs indicate Yin and then purging is also contraindicated and difficult to treat.)
Prescription for treating Baihe Bing after erroneous sweating has already been applied:
Baihe (Lilii Bulbus, 7 bulbs, split) Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 3 liang)
Take the above two ingredients. First, soak the Baihe in spring water overnight. When foam appears in the water, discard the water the next morning. Boil the Baihe in 2 sheng of spring water until reduced to 1 sheng, and set aside. Cut the Zhi Mu into pieces, boil in 2 sheng of spring water until reduced to 1 sheng. Mix the Zhi Mu decoction with the Baihe juice, and boil together until reduced to 1.5 sheng. Divide into two doses. If the condition does not improve, prepare and administer again according to this method.
