[Pathogenesis] Fan Hua Chuang (Reverse Flower Sore) is caused by the struggle between wind-toxin and pathogenic factors. Initially, it appears like a grain of rice; when the head breaks, blood flows out, followed by the growth of foul flesh. It gradually enlarges with a root, exuding thick pus, and the tissue spreads outward resembling a flower, hence the name "Reverse Flower Sore." Any malignant sore that fails to heal for a long time may also exhibit foul flesh growing in a reverse flower shape. (From Volume 35)
*Qianjin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) provides a highly effective prescription for treating all kinds of malignant sores that have failed to heal for a long time, including Fan Hua Chuang.
Finely chop and cook until soft the root of *Arctii Fructus* (Niu Bang Zi Gen), mash it well, mix it with lard from the twelfth lunar month (La Yue), and apply it as a plaster to the swollen sore. Continue application until healed. (From Volume 23)
*Bixiao Fang* (Prescriptions of Immediate Effect) for treating Fan Hua Chuang:
Decoct willow branches and leaves in water until a paste resembling thick syrup is formed. Apply this paste to the affected area for good results.
Another prescription:
Burn purslane (*Portulaca oleracea*) to ash and apply it to the lesion. Apply frequently until healed. (Also found in *Qianjin Fang*)
Another prescription:
Apply salt ash to the lesion; this is miraculous. (All from Volume 4)
*Qianjin Fang* treats Yu Qi Chuang (Fish Navel Sore), which resembles a newly cauterized wound from fire needles. The periphery is red, while the center turns blackish, indicating necrosis. It can be pricked with a needle; if there is no pain upon pricking, it indicates a dangerous condition. (Also known as Yu Qi Ding/Fish Navel Carbuncle).
Mix equal parts of ash from fish heads collected in the twelfth lunar month and ash from tangled hair. Blend with thin chicken droppings to form a uniform mixture. Apply this mixture to the sore as a plaster, changing it frequently until healed. This sore may appear insignificant but can be fatal.
Another prescription:
Apply Han Shi Tang (a type of maltose prepared during the Cold Food Festival) to seal the sore. If it hardens, burn it to ash and apply the powder; the sore will heal.
Another prescription for Yu Qi Chuang where the head is white and swollen, causing unbearable pain:
First, prick the head of the sore and its surroundings to create holes. Crush fresh Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi) to extract juice and drip it into the holes. If fresh juice is unavailable, use dried Baizhi powder for application. (Alternatively, use Lactuca sativa var. crispa / Bai Ju).
Another prescription (originally noted for Chi Gen Ding Chuang/Red-Root Carbuncle):
Collect soil from moleburrows (Mogera wogura), mix with water to form a mud-like consistency, and apply it as a patch. Replace it when it feels hot until healed.
Another prescription:
Crush horse teeth into powder, mix with lard from the twelfth lunar month, and apply. This helps extract the root and stops pain. Alternatively, burn the horse teeth to ash for use.
Another prescription (originally noted for treating carbuncles contracted by contact):
Prick the head of the sore and its surroundings to allow maximum drainage of pus. Crush raw chestnuts (Castanea mollissima) and apply the yellow pulp to the sore. Surround the sore with a dough ring to prevent leakage. From morning to noon, the root of the carbuncle will likely emerge.
Another prescription (same as above):
Surround the sore with a dough ring as before. Prick the head of the sore and its surroundings randomly with a needle. Boil vinegar in a copper vessel until bubbling, then pour it into the dough ring (capacity about one cup). Replace the vinegar when it cools down. Within three applications, the root will be extracted.
Another prescription (same as above):
Boil snake skin (Ophiopogon japonicus? No, Serpentis Shed Skin/Bieshu) equivalent to the size of an egg in four sheng of water. Boil for three to four cycles, strain the dregs, and drink the decoction for immediate cure. Alternatively, burn the snake skin to ash, mix with egg white, and apply topically for healing. (All from Volume 23)
Cui Shi's prescription for swelling due to Yu Qi Du Chuang (Fish Navel Toxic Sore):
When the sore first appears, the head is white and about the size of a millet seed, with a black center like an ant and red surroundings. After four or five days, the pain becomes unbearable, appearing ulcerated but not fully ruptured.
Another prescription:
Crush together Herba Siegesbeckiae (Qumai) and raw oil, cook until soft, and apply the paste. This is also beneficial. (All from Volume 5)
