Treatment for wind deficiency, consumptive damage, weakness in the waist and legs, and methods for tonification, replenishment, and strengthening of Qi and strength.
Take three liang of Zhongru (Stalactite), grind it into a powder, place it in a bag made of double-layered silk gauze. The bag should be slightly loose, tie the opening tightly, and immerse it in one sheng of cow's milk to decoct. When the liquid has reduced by one-third, consume the entire contents on an empty stomach the following morning. This will not induce vomiting or diarrhea. For individuals with slight deficiency-cold constitution, there may be mild loose stools, but this causes no distress. The next morning, prepare another sheng of cow's milk and decoct according to the previous method. After taking the medicine according to the prescribed method, after each decoction, rinse the decoction bag with a small amount of cold water. If this is not done, the Qi cannot circulate and dissipate properly. Repeat this process more than thirty times but less than forty times, until the medicinal power is exhausted. The residue in the bag can be mixed with flour to feed hens; consuming the eggs laid by these hens is also beneficial. Alternatively, it can be used to soak medicinal wine. If one wishes to take Bai Shiyin (White Quartz), follow this same method. For patients with cold syndromes, decoct with wine; for those with heat syndromes, decoct with water. If using water or wine, the quantity should generally be halved for optimal results. Decocting with cow's milk, reducing the volume by one-third, offers unparalleled efficacy in tonifying deficiency and damage, without ever triggering adverse reactions. (The view in *Qianjin Yifang* is the same; contraindications are detailed in another volume.)
Method for taking Ru Fen (Milk Powder).
Take one liang of Ru Fen, divide it into two doses: take one in the morning and finish the second at night, regardless of the specific amount, using one liang as the standard. Whenever taking Ru Fen, it must be taken with warm, clear wine. It is best to maintain a continuous sensation of alcohol warmth in the body, but avoid intoxication and vomiting. Dietary intake should be restricted; consume approximately one sheng of rice per day. If bowel movements cease for three days, indicating that the milk powder has not been digested and excreted along with food, this is the desired state. After three days, one may resume eating delicacies to nourish the body. The dosage of milk powder can vary according to one's financial status. The Master stated that taking one jin eliminates a hundred diseases; taking two jin benefits three generations; taking three jin ensures that even at the moment of death, the complexion remains unchanged, and after being buried for five hundred years, the body becomes strong. (Note: "No bowel movement for three days" refers to preventing the downward leakage of the milk Qi.)
*Qianjin Fang* Refined Zhongru San, treating emaciation and insufficiency, particularly for individuals over sixty who are weak and unable to eat, eliminating various diseases. Frequent consumption yields better results if available.
Take one jin of Zhongru (Stalactite). Select only those pieces that are pure white, clean, and lustrous; inferior quality pieces are unusable. This formula contains only this single herb. First, line an iron cauldron with mud to serve as a stove. Fill the cauldron with water up to two cun below the rim. Place the Zhongru inside a gold, silver, or porcelain vessel (any type is acceptable) and submerge it in the cauldron so that the water covers the vessel, leaving about one cun of space above the vessel. Maintain this level constantly, ensuring no water spills out. Simmer over low fire continuously day and night. As the water evaporates, add warm water to replenish it. Once every twenty-four hours, change the water, wash the cauldron, and wash the Zhongru. After seven days and nights, remove the Zhongru. After thorough washing, place it in a porcelain mortar. Grind it with a jade pestle bound with a grid structure in water for one day and night. Add ample water, stir until the mixture is turbid, then pour off the liquid into another container to settle and collect the powder. Coarser particles will naturally sink to the bottom and can be ground further. Continue grinding for three days and nights until fine. Collect the powder with water, clarify, dry it, and then grind it again in a silver mortar for one day. It is considered ready when the powder does not disperse upon washing with water. Weigh portions to be added to the san powder. Ingredients: Shang Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Shang Shi Hu (Dendrobii Caulis), Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) — each 3 fen. Pound and sieve these three herbs, mix them thoroughly with the refined Zhongru powder, and divide into nine packets. Take one packet on an empty stomach with warm wine in the early morning, and one packet after dusk. Follow this regimen for three days. After three days, continue the previous regimen. Upon finishing one jin of Zhongru, one will naturally perceive the restoration of strength, which is difficult to describe fully. (Consistent with *Ying Ru Lun*).
*Yannan Mulu* Zhongru San, primarily for tonifying deficiency and fatigue, augmenting Qi and strength, and promoting digestion.
Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) — each 1 fen; Zhongru (Stalactite) — 2 fen, finely ground; Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) — 0.5 fen; Gui Xin (Cinnamomi Cortex) — 2 zhu; Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) — 1 zhu. Pulverize these six herbs into a san powder. Divide into three packets. Take one packet with warm wine every morning, and one packet during meals. During meals, do not eat too full, nor remain too hungry. Maintain a moderate intake of alcohol to keep the body gently warmed. If feeling hot and irritable, wash hands and face with cold water; avoid hot foods, and also avoid cold foods. (Contraindications remain as usual.)
