Discourse states: Generally speaking, mineral drugs (Shi Yao) possess a rigid and fierce nature, with their Qi tending to flare upwards. If regulation is improper and damages the warming Yang Qi, the Fire pathogen will become blazing hot, internally scorching the Spleen and Lungs. The Spleen and Lungs suffer from heat, leading to thirst. Excessive water intake causes fluid to flow into the Intestines and Stomach. When the Stomach receives water, it vomits; when the Intestines receive water, they become cold. Although the Zang organs are cold, the flaming Fire within does not extinguish. The water gradually flows downward, becoming stagnant accumulation, resulting in deficiency-cold of the Intestines and Stomach, where water and grain cannot be digested. If the disease affects the Yang aspect, vital Qi is damaged and appetite is lost; if it affects the Yin aspect, there is borborygmus and diarrhea. If prolonged without recovery, it may develop into Dysentery (Li Ji). The Classics state: "Vomiting and hiccups originate from the Lower Jiao," which refers to this condition. To treat dysentery accompanied by dry heaves,服用 Xiang Chi (Fermented Soybean Paste); taking more is beneficial. If symptoms do not improve and recur, this formula is suitable.
Xiang Chi (Fermented Soybean Paste) (2 sheng), Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger) (3 liang), Gan Cao (Licorice Root) (2 liang, honey-fried), Cong Bai (Scallion White) (cut, 1 sheng).
Cut the above four herbs, decoct in 5 sheng of water, reduce to 2 sheng, remove dregs, take warm, divided doses. Very effective.
Another prescription:
Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger) (5 liang).
Cut the single herb, decoct in 2 sheng of water, reduce to 1 sheng, remove dregs, take all at once.
Another prescription for treating white and bloody dysentery accompanied by heat and oppression:
Zhi Zi Ren (Gardenia Seed) (14 pieces), Xie Bai (Allium Macrostemon Bulb) (one handful, cut).
Decoct the above two herbs in 3 sheng of water, reduce to 1.2 sheng, remove dregs, take divided doses. Effective.
Another prescription for treating white dysentery:
Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome) (1 liang, crushed, wrapped in silk), Bai Mi (White Honey) (1 he).
Soak the above two herbs in 2 sheng of urine from an uncircumcised boy overnight, decoct to obtain 1 sheng, remove dregs, add honey, take divided doses.
Another prescription:
Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome) (1 liang, crushed), Xie Bai (Allium Macrostemon Bulb) (cut, 1 sheng), Wu Mei (Mume Fruit) (one handful).
Decoct the above three herbs in 2 sheng of water, reduce to 1 sheng, take warm, divided doses.
Another prescription for Huang Lian Tang, used when exterior syndrome has been resolved, stool has already flowed freely, but heat persists, accompanied by unceasing dysentery:
Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome) (1 liang, crushed), Bai Liang Mi (White Millet Grain) (2 he).
Decoct the above two herbs in 5 sheng of water, reduce to 2 sheng, take divided doses.
Another prescription for treating dysentery with undigested food due to excessive cold ingestion caused by severe heat from carbuncles and swellings:
Gan Cao (Licorice Root, fried), Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger), Fu Zi (Prepared Aconite Root) (each 6 liang), Shu Jiao (Sichuan Pepper) (230 pieces, stir-fried until oily sweat appears).
Cut the above four herbs, decoct in 6 sheng of water, reduce to 3 sheng, take divided doses. Observe usual dietary restrictions.
Another prescription for Huang Lian Tang, used to treat epidemic diseases accompanied by external heat causing bloody dysentery, capable of stopping bleeding and reviving the dead:
Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome) (4 liang), Huang Bo (Phellodendron Bark) (3 liang), Zhi Zi Ren (Gardenia Seed) (15 pieces), E Jiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin) (1 liang, fried), Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger), Zhi Shi (Immature Bitter Orange, fried), Shao Yao (Peony Root) (each 2 liang).

Cut the above five herbs, decoct in 3 sheng of water, reduce to 1 sheng, take warm, divided doses.
Another prescription for Gan Cao Tang, suitable for treating unresolved exterior syndrome due to dysentery:

Yang Gan (Sheep Liver) (remove membrane, cut, wash with water twenty times until blood is gone, mix with millet rice to form a cake-like shape).
Boil this single ingredient in water until cooked, remove and rinse in starch water, drain dry. Eat with delicious minced garlic when extremely hungry. Within two or three doses, it will heal.
Another prescription for treating water-and-grain dysentery:
Take Crucian Carp (Ji Yu), regardless of quantity, prepare as for food, wipe dry with new cloth, sever blood vessels, cut into pieces. Eat with minced garlic until satisfied. At night, eat an appropriate amount of white porridge. This will lead to recovery. Observe usual dietary restrictions.
