Commentary states: Individuals who consume mineral drugs (referring to Five-Stone Powder and similar mineral preparations) often have a body prone to heat. Heat induces thirst and drinking; hunger leads to further eating. Once the water and grain are damaged, the stomach fu loses its regulation. Since the Earth element (Spleen/Stomach) is depleted, the Wood element (Liver/Gallbladder) must invade. Thus it is said that "when Liver Qi enters the Stomach, diarrhea occurs," or there may be diarrhea alone without vomiting. This is due to excessive Wood overcoming Earth. When Wood overcomes Earth excessively, it must disperse; both Qi of Wood and Earth become deficient, yet Liver Qi becomes angry. Since Yang Qi is lacking, tendon cramping (Zhuǎn Jīn) and vomiting changes will manifest, aggravating diseases of the Kidney and Liver. One should quickly stop taking the mineral drugs, warm the feet, and simultaneously regulate with the Five Flavors method; the illness will surely recover.
