It is stated that individuals who consume mineral drugs (such as the Five Minerals Powder) may exhibit various manifestations of toxicity. Some manifest in the exterior yang aspect, causing lesions on the head, temples, and skin, such as carbuncles and headache. Others manifest in the interior yin aspect, resulting in coldness and deficiency of the internal organs, accompanied by mouth sores and hematemesis. Qi warms the five zang organs internally and nourishes the meridians externally. Mineral substances are pure and clear, disliking turbidity and filth; what the eyes see and the nose smells should be fragrant and fresh, not stagnant or putrid. Thus, various diseases arise. If one consumes stale, foul-smelling, or sour raw foods stored in the stomach, and the stomach cannot accept them, pushing the pathogenic factors to other organs which also reject them, it leads to stagnation and fullness in the liver and diaphragm region. This may develop into abdominal distension with hard accumulation, triggering heart pain. This is not a natural pain of the heart itself, but rather caused by filth disturbing the shen (spirit). Upon perceiving this condition, one should rapidly purify the intestines and stomach to prevent retention and obstruction; otherwise, phlegm-fluids will form, exacerbating the heart pain. Is it not necessary to strive for treatment?
Jin Shao's prescription for treating heart pain, edema of all joints, and phlegm-fluid qi caused by excessive cold exposure: Dahuang Wan (Rhubarb Pill).
Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei), Tinglizi (Semen Lepidii seu Descurainiae), Chi (Folium Sojae Praeparatum) [each 1 liang], Xingren (Semen Armeniacae Amarum, remove tip and skin, stir-fry), Badou (Fructus Crotonis Tiglii, 30 seeds, remove skin and heart, stir-fry).
Process the above five herbs: grind Dahuang into powder separately; pound the other four herbs into a paste. Mix with a small amount of honey, and pound for one thousand strokes. Take one pill the size of a hemp seed with warm water. For those with stronger constitutions, increase to two or three pills according to discretion. Observe usual dietary restrictions.
Another prescription for treating toxicity from Chishizhi (Red Halloysite) causing heart pain, unrelieved by drinking hot wine:
Congbai (Bulbus Allii Cepae, half jin, sliced), Chi (Folium Sojae Praeparatum, 2 sheng, wrapped in silk cloth).
Boil the above two ingredients in 6 sheng of water until reduced to 2.5 sheng. Divide and take.
Another prescription for treating high fever and fullness/distension of the heart and abdomen:
Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, half jin, crushed), Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae), Mahuang (Herba Ephedrae), Shaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Alba) [each 2 liang], Daqing (Folium Isatidis), Xuduan (Radix Dipsaci) [each 3 liang].
Cut the above six herbs. Boil in 8 sheng of water until reduced to 4 sheng. Strain and divide for administration.
Another prescription for persistent heart and abdominal pain accompanied by whole-body tremors and aversion to cold, indicating obstruction of Ying and Wei qi: Ren Shen Tang (Ginseng Decoction).
Mahuang (Herba Ephedrae, 3 liang, remove nodes), Renshen (Radix Ginseng), Zhishi (Fructus Aurantii Immaturus, roasted), Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, roasted), Fuling (Sclerotium Poriae Cocos) [each 1 liang].
Cut the above six herbs. Boil in 5 sheng of water until reduced to 2 sheng. Divide for administration.
Another prescription for disseminated mineral toxicity, heart pain, abdominal distension, and conflicting cold and heat pathogens: Gancao Tang (Licorice Decoction).
Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, roasted), Zhishi (Fructus Aurantii Immaturus, roasted), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae), Zhizi (Fructus Gardeniae) [each 2 liang], Jiegeng (Radix Platycodonis) [3 liang].
Cut the above five herbs. Boil in 6 sheng of water until reduced to 2 sheng. Divide into two doses. Observe usual dietary restrictions.
Another prescription for abdominal distension, headache, eye socket pain, pre-existing fixed masses (pi) that do not resolve, internal heat from alcohol or food intake, or frequent urgent heart pain:
Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, roasted), Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae), Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, soaked separately), Maimendong (Radix Ophiopogonis, remove core), Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas) [each 2 liang], Zhizi (Fructus Gardeniae, 30 fruits).
Cut the above six herbs. Boil in 7 sheng of water until reduced to 3 sheng. Divide for administration. Observe usual dietary restrictions.
Another prescription for mineral toxicity activation, rebellious qi rising, unresolved excess heat, fullness of heart and abdomen, red urine, difficult defecation, stagnation rushing to the chest, dry mouth, red and painful eyes:
Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, 1 liang, soaked separately), Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae, 3 liang), Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, roasted), Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas), Maimendong (Radix Ophiopogonis, remove core, 2 liang each).
Cut the above six herbs. Boil in 5 sheng of water until reduced to 2 sheng. Add Dahuang and boil for 3-5 more boils. Strain and divide into two doses.
