《千金翼方》论述说，面脂、手膏、衣香、澡豆，是士大夫阶层所珍视的必需品。然而当今的医家极为保密吝惜，不允许子弟泄露其中任何一法，即使是父子之间，也不传授展示。但是圣人制定法则，是希望家家户户都能通晓，人人都能知晓，怎么能让（医术）变得愚昧闭塞呢？
另外一方面脂方，主治面部及皮肤皴裂起皱、色斑发黑，凡是面上的疾病，都主治。
丁香（十一分） 零陵香 桃仁（去皮） 土瓜根 白蔹 白芨 防风 当归 沉香 辛夷 商陆 麝香（研碎） 栀子花 川芎（各十二分） 蜀水花 青木香（各八分） 白芷 玉竹 菟丝子 藿香 甘松香（各十五分） 木兰皮 白僵蚕 藁本（各十分） 茯苓（十八分） 冬瓜仁（十六分） 鹅脂 羊髓（各一升半） 羊肾脂（一升） 猪胰（六具） 清酒（五升） 生猪脂肪（适量）。
以上三十二味药，用生猪胰汁浸泡药物一夜在油脂中，煎煮三次上升三次下降（指反复加热冷却的过程），直到白芷颜色变黄，滤去药渣，用上述五升酒和猪胰在炭火上微微煎煮，膏成后储存在容器中，用来涂抹面部。
又一面膏方。

以上三十二味药，先用水浸泡膏、髓等五日，每天更换一次水；再浸泡五日，每天更换一次水；再浸泡五日，每两天更换一次水，总共二十天为止。用一升酒化开羊胰，去掉筋膜，然后将香料细细切碎，放入容器中浸泡，密封一夜。早晨将各种油脂等合在一起煎煮，三上三下，以酒气和水气蒸发尽为度，然后用棉布绞去药渣，研磨一千遍，等到凝固才停止，使膏体洁白如雪。每晚涂抹面部，白天洗掉，再涂新的，十天后脸色如同桃花般红润。（原方中有白蔹、人参各三两，无蘼芜花、冬瓜仁，这些都是面膏药，怀疑还有这两味药。）
又一方。
香附子（十个大的） 白芷（二两） 零陵香（二两） 茯苓（一两，都用大两计算） 蔓菁油（二升，没有就用猪膏代替） 牛髓 羊髓（各一升） 水浸白蜡（八两） 麝香（二分）。
以上九味药，用油和髓在微火上煎煮五种主料直到颜色改变，滤去药渣，加入麝香，研磨一千遍，凝固后使用。在用完澡豆洗脸后涂抹。
又一方。
杏仁（二升，去皮） 白附子（三两） 密陀僧（二两，研成粉） 白羊髓（二升半） 真珠（十四枚，捣研成粉） 白鲜皮（一两） 鸡子白（七个） 胡粉（二两，用石米研磨）。
又一方。
防风 白芨 川芎（各三两） 白术（八分） 甘松 白蔹 木兰皮 栝蒌 白芷 藁本 桃花 蜀水花 商陆 密陀僧 白僵蚕 零陵香 杜蘅 鹰屎白 白葳蕤 土瓜根（各三分） 麝香 丁香（各二两） 白附子 玉屑（各四分） 鹅脂（五合） 鹿髓（一升） 羊髓（一升） 白腊（四两） 猪膏（二升）。
以上二十九味药细细切碎，用醋浸泡，密封一夜。第二天早上用猪膏煎煮，三上三下，直到白芷颜色变黄表示药成，滤去药渣，搅拌数万遍，使颜色变白来敷面，注意避免风吹日晒，效果良好。
又一方。

以上十九味药细细切碎，用绵布包裹，在二升酒中浸泡一天一夜，然后放入油脂中急火煎煮，三上三下，然后改用缓火，一夜药成，滤去药渣，加入三分寒水石粉，放入油脂中用柳木棍充分搅拌。随意使用。（均出自第五卷）
《千金方》面膏去风寒令面色光润悦泽，抗老去皱方。
青木香 白附子 川芎 白蜡 零陵香 白芷 香附子（各二两） 茯苓 甘松（各一两） 羊髓（一升半，炼过）。
以上十味药，用酒和水各半升，浸泡药物过夜，煎煮三上三下，等到酒气和水气蒸发尽，膏成，滤去药渣，收藏备用。涂抹面部做妆容时，原有的妆饰都会脱落。
又一方。

以上二十七味药细细切碎，用清酒浸泡一夜，微火煎煮一天，用新布绞去药渣，用来涂抹面部，切记避风，随意使用。（出自第六卷）
崔氏蜡脂方。
白蜡（十两，炼至白色） 桃花 菟丝子 白芷 木兰皮 细辛 辛夷仁 白茯苓 土瓜根 栝蒌根 白附子 杜蘅 桃仁（去皮） 杏仁（去皮，各三分） 蔓菁子油（二升半） 羊髓 牛髓 鹿髓脂（各一合）。
以上十八味药并细细切碎，用苦酒（醋）浸泡一夜，用上列的蜡、油、髓、脂等，按照制作面脂的方法煎煮。先将蔓菁油和酒在前，煎出烟后，才开始放入蜡和髓，然后纳入其他药物，等到白芷颜色变黄，膏成，随意使用。每次用澡豆洗脸后涂抹。
又常用蜡脂方。
蔓菁油（三升） 甘松香（一两） 零陵香（一两） 辛夷仁（五分） 白术（二升） 细辛（五分） 竹茹（一升） 竹叶（切，五合） 白茯苓（三分） 蘼芜花（三分） 羊髓（半升，用水浸泡去掉红色筋膜后炼制） 麝香（任意炙烤）。
以上十二味药切碎，用绵布包裹在酒中浸泡两个晚上，绞去酒液，放入油脂中用缓火煎至沸腾，大约三天香气极盛，膏成，然后炼制白蜡使其变白。看快要熟时放入蜡调和，瓷器硬度适中则储存使用。（出自第九卷）
文仲治疗人脸面无光泽润泽，发黑及皱纹常敷面脂方。
细辛 玉竹 黄芪 白附子 薯蓣 辛夷 川芎 白芷（各一分） 栝蒌 木兰皮（各二分） 猪脂（二十次炼成）。
以上十一味药切碎，用绵布包裹。用少量酒浸泡一夜，放入脂膏中煎煮。七上七下，另外取一斤白芷单独煎，颜色变黄药成，滤去药渣，搅拌凝固后敷面，随意使用，也主治金疮止血效果好。
延年面脂方。
白术 茯苓 杜蘅（各六分） 玉竹 藁本 川芎 土瓜根 栝蒌（各五分） 木兰皮 白僵蚕 蜀水花 辛夷仁 零陵香 藿香（各四两） 菟丝子（八分） 栀子花 麝香（酒浸，绵裹） 鹰屎白（各三分） 冬瓜仁（五分） 桃仁（五个，并弄碎） 白蜡（三两） 羊脂（取自肾边的，一升） 猪脂（三升，水浸泡七天，每天换水） 猪胰（一具） 白附子（四分）。
以上二十五味药，并细细切碎，用二升酒，取猪胰、桃仁、冬瓜仁用绵布包裹放入酒中，令其溶解绞取汁液，用来浸泡药物一夜。另外煎猪脂令其融化去渣，用鹅脂、羊脂、白蜡在铛中用绵布包裹放入铛中，微火煎煮三上三下，药色变黄，滤去药渣，等待澄清凝固，加入鹰屎末搅拌均匀，用来涂抹面部妙处无穷。
又一方。
防风 玉竹 川芎 白芷 藁本 桃仁（去皮） 白附子（各六分） 茯苓（八分） 细辛 瓜仁（研碎，各三分） 麝香（一分）。
以上十七味药，用酒浸泡湿润一个晚上，第二天用薄绵布宽宽地包裹起来，用三升白鹅脂、三升羊脂（都是炼成的）来煎煮它们，在铜器中用微火煎煮，使之沸腾但不要烧焦，然后进行“三上”操作。观察白附子颜色变黄，膏成，滤去药渣，再放入铛中上火，加入麝香，气味出来后仍保留麝香，再用绵布过滤，然后纳入栝蒌仁、桃仁、冬瓜仁等油脂，以及鹰屎、鸬鹚屎粉等搅拌均匀，膏成待凝固，用瓷器储存，用柳木做槌子，在钵中研磨，使其轻虚得当产生光泽，研磨没有定数，两三天研磨一次。
*Qianjin Yifang* states that facial cream (Mianzhi), hand ointment (Shougao), clothing incense, and bath beans are necessities prized by the scholar-official class. However, contemporary physicians keep these formulas extremely secret and reluctant to share, forbidding their disciples from leaking even one method; even between fathers and sons, they do not transmit or show them. Yet, the sages established laws with the intention that every household should understand and every person should know, rather than letting knowledge remain obscure and closed off.
Another Facial Cream Formula: It treats facial conditions such as skin cracking, wrinkling, and dark spots/pigmentation. It is indicated for all diseases of the face.
Dingxiang (Clove Bud) [11 fen], Linglingxiang (Lingling Incense), Taoren (Peach Seed, peeled), Tugua Gen (Trichosanthes Thunbergiana Root), Bailian (White Peony Root), Baiji (Chinese Dioscorea Bulbil), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root), Chenxiang (Agarwood), Xinyi (Magnolia Flower), Shanglu (Phytolacca Root), Shexiang (Musk, ground), Zhizi Hua (Gardenia Flower), Xiong (Aucklandiae Radix) [12 fen each], Shuishuihua (Shu Water Flower), Qingmuxiang (Blue Musk Root) [8 fen each], Baizhi (Angelica Dahurica Root), Weirui (Polygonatum Odoratum Rhizome), Tusizi (Cuscutae Semen), Huoxiang (Patchouli Herb), Gansongxiang (Nardostachys Root) [15 fen each], Mulanpi (Magnolia Bark), Baijiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus), Ben (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) [10 fen each], Fuling (Poria) [18 fen], Dongguaren (Winter Melon Seed) [16 fen], E Zhi (Goose Fat), Yang Sui (Sheep Marrow) [1.5 sheng each], Yang Shen Zhi (Sheep Kidney Fat) [1 sheng], Zhu Yi (Pig Pancreas) [6 units], Qingjiu (Clear Wine) [5 sheng], Sheng Zhu Fang Zhi (Raw Pig Adipose Tissue).
The above thirty-two ingredients: Soak the herbs in the juice of the raw pig pancreas within the fats overnight. Decoct using the "three ascents and three descents" method (repeated heating and cooling cycles). When the Baizhi turns yellow, remove the dregs. Add the five sheng of wine and the pig pancreas, and simmer gently over charcoal fire until the ointment is formed. Store in a vessel and apply to the face.
Another Facial Ointment Formula:
Du Heng (Asarum Sieboldii), Du Ruo (Polygala japonica), Fangfeng, Ben, Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata - *Note: Text says Bai Fu Zi, Pseudoginseng Root/Buckbean Rhizome contextually often implies Aconite derivative or specific local herb, here translated as Prepared Aconite Root based on common usage in such contexts but strictly Bai Fu Zi is Typhonii Rhizoma*), Bai Fu Zi (Typhonii Rhizoma), Mulanpi, Danggui, Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizoma), Duhuo (Angelica Pubescens Root), Bai Fuling (Poria), Weirui, Baizhi, Tianmendong (Asparagi Radix), Yuxie (Jade fragments) [1 liang each], Tusizi, Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix), Shanglu, Zhizi Hua, Juren (Tangerine Kernel), Dongguaren, Miwu Hua (Chrysanthemi Indici Flos) [3 liang each], Huoxiang, Dingxiang, Linglingxiang, Gansongxiang, Qingmuxiang [2 liang each], Shexiang (0.5 liang), Bai E Zhi (White Goose Fat, if unavailable...).
The above thirty-two ingredients: First, soak the fats and marrow in water for five days, changing the water daily. Then soak for another five days, changing the water daily. Then soak for another five days, changing the water every two days, totaling twenty days. Use one sheng of wine to dissolve the sheep pancreas, remove the fascia, finely chop the aromatic herbs, and soak them in a container. Seal tightly and leave overnight. In the morning, combine all fats and decoct using the "three ascents and three descents" method until the wine and water vapors are exhausted. Strain through cotton cloth, grind a thousand times, and stop when it solidifies. The texture should be white as snow. Apply to the face every night and wash off during the day, reapplying fresh ointment. After ten days, the complexion will resemble peach blossoms. (Original formula includes Bailian and Renshen at 3 liang each, without Miwu Hua and Dongguaren; these are suspected to be missing ingredients.)
Another Formula:
Xiangfuzi (Cyperi Rhizoma, 10 large ones), Baizhi (2 liang), Linglingxiang (2 liang), Fuling (1 liang, using large liang measurement), Manjing You (Turnip Seed Oil, 2 sheng; substitute with pig fat if unavailable), Niu Sui (Ox Marrow), Yang Sui (Sheep Marrow) [1 sheng each], Shui Zi Bai La (Water-soaked White Beeswax, 8 liang), Shexiang (2 fen).
The above nine ingredients: Decoct the five main items (oil and marrow) over low heat until the color changes. Remove dregs, add Shexiang, grind a thousand times, and use when solidified. Apply after washing the face with bath beans.
Another Formula:
Xingren (Apricot Seed, 2 sheng, peeled), Bai Fu Zi (3 liang), Mituo Seng (Litharge, 2 liang, ground to powder), Bai Yang Sui (White Sheep Marrow, 2.5 sheng), Zhenzhu (Pearl, 14 pieces, pounded and ground to powder), Baixianpi (Dictamni Cortex, 1 liang), Jizi Bai (Egg White, 7), Hufen (Lead Carbonate Powder, 2 liang, ground with rice stone).
Another Formula:
Fangfeng, Baiji, Xiong [3 liang each], Baizhu (8 fen), Gansong, Bailian, Mulanpi, Gualou (Trichosanthes Fruit), Baizhi, Ben, Taohua (Peach Blossom), Shuishuihua, Shanglu, Mituo Seng, Baijiangcan, Linglingxiang, Du Heng, Ying Shi (Eagle Droppings), Bai Weirui, Tugua Gen [3 fen each], Shexiang, Dingxiang [2 liang each], Bai Fu Zi, Yuxie [4 fen each], E Zhi (Goose Fat, 5 he), Lu Sui (Deer Marrow, 1 sheng), Yang Sui (Sheep Marrow, 1 sheng), Bai La (White Beeswax, 4 liang), Zhu Gao (Pig Fat, 2 sheng).
The above twenty-nine ingredients: Finely chop, soak in vinegar (Cu), seal tightly overnight. On the next morning, decoct with pig fat using the "three ascents and three descents" method. When Baizhi turns yellow, the medicine is ready. Remove dregs, stir tens of thousands of times until white, and apply to the face. Avoid wind and sun for good results.
Another Formula:
Fangfeng, Xiong, Baizhi, Baijiangcan, Shuishuihua, Bailian, Xixin, Fuling, Ben, Weirui, Qingmuxiang, Xinyi, Tao Ren (Peach Seed), Danggui, Tugua Gen, Gualou Ren (Trichosanthes Seed) [3 fen each], Taoren (Peach Seed, peeled and cored), Zhu Zhi (Pig Fat, 2 sheng), E Zhi (Goose Fat, 1 sheng), Yang Shen Zhi (Sheep Kidney Fat, 1 sheng).
The above nineteen ingredients: Finely chop, wrap in cotton cloth, soak in 2 sheng of wine for one day and one night. Then place in fat and decoct rapidly using the "three ascents and three descents" method, followed by slow heat overnight until ready. Remove dregs, add 3 fen of Hanshui Shi Fen (Halloysitum Rubrum/Alumen variant), mix into the fat with a wooden stick. Use as desired. (From Volume 5)
*Qianjin Fang* Facial Ointment for Dispelling Wind-Cold, Brightening Complexion, Anti-aging, and Reducing Wrinkles:
Qingmuxiang, Bai Fu Zi, Xiong, Bai La, Linglingxiang, Baizhi, Xiangfuzi [2 liang each], Fuling, Gansong [1 liang each], Yang Sui (1.5 sheng, refined).
The above ten ingredients: Soak herbs in half a sheng of wine and half a sheng of water overnight. Decoct using "three ascents and three descents" until wine and water vapors are exhausted. When the ointment is formed, remove dregs and store for use. Applying this before makeup will cause existing cosmetics to fall off.
Another Formula:
Yuxie, Xiong, Tugua Gen, Baizhi, Dongguaren, Mulanpi, Weirui, Taoren (peeled), Bai Fu Zi [4 liang each], Shanglu Gen (5 fen), Xinyi, Tusizi, Ben, Baijiangcan, Danggui, Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Huoxiang, Xixin, Fangfeng, Shexiang, Qingmuxiang [3 fen each], Zhu Yi (Pig Pancreas, 3 units), Shuishuihua (1 he), Ying Shi Bai (Eagle Droppings White, 1 he), Bai Gou Zhi (White Dog Fat, 1 sheng), E Zhi (Goose Fat, 1 sheng), Xiong Zhi (Bear Fat, 2 sheng).
The above twenty-seven ingredients: Finely chop, soak in clear wine overnight. Simmer over low heat for one day. Strain through new cloth and apply to the face. Avoid wind. Use as desired. (From Volume 6)
Cui's Wax and Fat Formula:
Bai La (White Beeswax, 10 liang, refined to white), Taohua, Tusizi, Baizhi, Mulanpi, Xixin, Xinyi Ren, Bai Fuling, Tugua Gen, Gualou Gen, Bai Fu Zi, Du Heng, Taoren (peeled), Xingren (peeled, 3 fen each), Manjing Zi You (Turnip Seed Oil, 2.5 sheng), Yang Sui, Niu Sui, Lu Sui Zhi (Deer Marrow Fat) [1 he each].
The above eighteen ingredients: Finely chop, soak in vinegar (Ku Jiu) overnight. Using the aforementioned wax, oil, marrow, and fat, decoct according to the method for facial cream. Boil the turnip seed oil and wine first until smoke appears, then add the wax and marrow. Finally, add the other herbs. When Baizhi turns yellow, the ointment is ready. Use as desired. Apply after washing the face with bath beans.
Another Commonly Used Wax and Fat Formula:
Manjing You (3 sheng), Gansongxiang (1 liang), Linglingxiang (1 liang), Xinyi Ren (5 fen), Baizhu (2 sheng), Xixin (5 fen), Zhuru (Bamboo Shavings, 1 sheng), Zhuye (Bamboo Leaf, cut, 5 he), Bai Fuling (3 fen), Miwu Hua (3 fen), Yang Sui (0.5 sheng, soaked in water to remove red fascia and refined), Shexiang (roasted as needed).
The above twelve ingredients: Chop, wrap in cotton cloth, and soak in wine for two nights. Strain out the wine, place in fat, and boil slowly over gentle heat until fragrant (about three days). When the ointment is formed, refine the beeswax until white. Add the wax near the end of cooking to adjust consistency. Store in porcelain vessels of appropriate hardness. (From Volume 9)
Wen Zhong's Formula for Treating Lack of Luster, Darkness, and Wrinkles on the Face:
Xixin, Weirui, Huangqi, Bai Fu Zi, Shuyu (Dioscorea Hypoglauca Rhizome), Xinyi, Xiong, Baizhi [1 fen each], Gualou, Mulanpi [2 fen each], Zhu Zhi (Pig Fat, refined twenty times).
The above eleven ingredients: Chop, wrap in cotton cloth. Soak in a small amount of wine overnight. Place in fat and decoct. Perform "seven ascents and seven descents." Separately decoct one jin of Baizhi until yellow to indicate completion. Remove dregs, stir until solidified, and apply to the face. Use as desired. Also effective for stopping bleeding from traumatic injuries.
Yannian Facial Cream Formula:
Baizhu, Fuling, Du Heng [6 fen each], Weirui, Ben, Xiong, Tugua Gen, Gualou [5 fen each], Mulanpi, Baijiangcan, Shuishuihua, Xinyi Ren, Linglingxiang, Huoxiang [4 liang each], Tusizi (8 fen), Zhizi Hua, Shexiang (soaked in wine, wrapped in cloth), Ying Shi Bai [3 fen each], Dongguaren (5 fen), Taoren (5 pieces, crushed), Bai La (3 liang), Yang Zhi (from kidney area, 1 sheng), Zhu Zhi (3 sheng, soaked in water for seven days, changing water daily), Zhu Yi (1 unit), Bai Fu Zi (4 fen).
The above twenty-five ingredients: Finely chop. Take 2 sheng of wine, wrap the pig pancreas, peach seeds, and winter melon seeds in cloth, soak in wine, dissolve, and squeeze out the juice to soak the herbs overnight. Separately melt the pig fat and remove dregs. Place goose fat, sheep fat, and beeswax in a pan, wrapped in cloth, and decoct over low heat using "three ascents and three descents." When the medicine turns yellow, remove dregs. Wait for clarification and solidification, add eagle droppings powder, stir evenly, and apply to the face for excellent results.
Another Formula:
Fangfeng, Weirui, Xiong, Baizhi, Ben, Taoren (peeled), Bai Fu Zi [6 fen each], Fuling (8 fen), Xixin, Gua Ren (Winter Melon Seed, ground) [3 fen each], Shexiang (1 fen).
The above seventeen ingredients: Soak in wine and moisten overnight. The next day, wrap loosely in thin cotton cloth. Decoct with 3 sheng of white goose fat and 3 sheng of refined sheep fat in a copper vessel over low heat. Bring to a boil but do not burn. Perform "three ascents." When Bai Fu Zi turns yellow, the ointment is ready. Remove dregs, return to the vessel over heat, add Shexiang. Once the aroma emerges, retain the Shexiang. Filter through cloth again. Then add Trichosanthes seed, peach seed, winter melon seed, and other fats, as well as eagle droppings and cormorant droppings powder. Stir until blended. When the ointment solidifies, store in porcelain. Grind with a wooden pestle in a mortar until light and fluffy with a glossy sheen. Grind continuously for two to three days.
