The song states: Generally, malignant toxins and blood stasis form together; if not dispersed in time, pain ensues. A secret miraculous method of fumigation and washing is revealed here. The herbs include Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Jingjie (Schizonepetae Herba), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Ziye (Perillae Folium), Taoye (Persicae Folium), Huaiye (Sophorae Flavescentis Folium), Sangye (Mori Folium). Jinyinhua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos), Yinzhu (Cinnabaris), and Caowu (Aconiti Radix) display their potent efficacy. Put the herbs into a pot and decoct with water. After one session of fumigation and washing, peace and stability are restored.
(Prescription) Jinyinhua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos) (3 qian); Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Chuanwu (Aconiti Radix Preparata), Caowu (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), Ziye (Perillae Folium) (each 2 qian); Sangye (Mori Folium), Taoye (Persicae Folium), Huaiye (Sophorae Flavescentis Folium), Zhangye (Cinnamomi Ramulus Folium) (each one handful).
(Preparation) Decoct all herbs together in water for later use.
(Usage) Take the decocted liquid while hot. First fumigate the affected area, then wash it. Avoid wind after washing. This method has the functions of dispelling wind, resolving toxicity, dissipating nodules, and reducing swelling. If Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Chuanjun (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), and Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix) are added, the effect is even better. For sores that have not yet suppurated, after fumigation and washing, mash the herb dregs and apply them to the lesion. For those that have already suppurated, add pig trotter soup for rinsing; its efficacy in resolving putrefaction and generating flesh is unparalleled.
Attached prescriptions are as follows:
Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Huoxiang (Agastaches Herba), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (each 3 qian); Huocong (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus) (one handful).
Take six or seven bowls of rice-washing water, put the herbs into it, and decoct in a pot until concentrated. Filter out the herb dregs. Dip new cotton in the soup and rinse/wash the affected area. Replace with hot soup when it cools down. Gently rub around the lesion with your hand to encourage the sore to retract inward, allowing pus to exit with the soup until completely drained.
Wan Qianzhai said: Fumigation and washing have the power of cleansing and scouring. Washing makes qi and blood naturally smooth, making it easier for toxins to ulcerate and rot without stagnation. For swellings on the four limbs, wash them; on the waist, abdomen, spine, and back, rinse them; on the lower body, bathe them. Use cloth or cotton to dip and wash, replacing immediately when slightly cool. Mild cases wash once daily; severe cases wash twice daily (morning and night). Wash daily without interruption. During washing in winter, use strong fire to drive out cold qi; in summer, close windows to avoid cool wind. If this is not observed carefully, mild cases may hinder wound closure, while severe cases may turn into pure yin syndromes. Regarding different washing herbs: for initial swelling and impending ulceration, use "Conggui Xiaozhong Tang" (Scallion and Angelica Anti-swelling Decoction); for yin syndromes that do not rise, use "Airong Tang Fu Fa" (Mugwort Down Poultice Method); after ulceration, use "Zhuti Tang" (Pig Trotter Soup) for scalding/washing. Pig trotter soup is used to assist muscle qi and expel putrefaction. This washing method is a key technique in surgery. The formulas are attached below for reference:
1. Conggui Xiaozhong Tang (Scallion and Angelica Anti-swelling Decoction)
For carbuncles, sores, and ulcers during initial swelling and impending ulceration, use this soup for washing until heat and itching are felt inside the sore.
Congtou (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus) (seven stalks); Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (each 3 qian).
Take these five herbs, add three large bowls of water, and decoct until the soup is rich. Filter out the dregs. Dip silk fabric in the hot soup and wash. Replace when slightly cool. Strictly avoid wind and cold during washing.
2. Airong Tang Fu Fa (Mugwort Down Poultice Method)
For yin sores that are black, depressed, and painless, this method can be used. Pain indicates vitality; painlessness with dark dead blood indicates death. Internal administration of major tonifying and yang-restoring agents is also required to assist and turn danger into safety.
Liuhuang (Sulfur) (5 qian); Xionghuang (Realgar) (5 qian); Airong (Artemisiae Argyi Folium prepared into moxa wool) (one handful).
Grind sulfur and realgar into powder. Decoct with mugwort water for half a day. When water is nearly dry, take out the mugwort, mash it, and apply warm to the lesion. Re-decoct and replace. Ten to twelve times is the limit.
3. Zhuti Tang (Pig Trotter Soup)
For carbuncles, furuncles, and various toxic sores discharging pus, boil this soup well for washing. It assists muscle qi, reduces swelling, disperses wind, removes putrefaction and pain, eliminates foul flesh, revitalizes dead tissue, and moistens the sore opening. If putrefaction is already gone, this method is unnecessary; instead, wash with hot rice-washing water to keep the sore clean. Do not over-wash, as excessive washing damages fluids, causes skin breakdown, hinders muscle growth, and delays healing.
Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Fengfang (Apis Nests), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) (equal parts).
Grind these seven herbs into coarse powder. Determine the amount based on the size of the condition. First, boil one pair of pig front trotters in six bowls of water until soft. Filter the broth, clear it, and blow away the oil film. Add one liang of the coarse herb powder to the broth. Simmer gently for ten to fifteen boils. Filter out the dregs. Wait until the soup is slightly warm. Place a square basin under the sore near the body. Dip soft silk in the soup, pour/rinse over the sore, and into any openings. Gently press to drain internal pus, letting foul and old pus exit with the soup until clean. Fold soft cloth seven or eight layers, dip in soup (not too dry), cover the sore, and press gently with both hands for a moment. Replace when the cloth cools. Repeat pressing four or five times to promote qi and blood circulation, resolve toxicity, relieve pain, and remove stasis. After washing, wipe dry with silk, and apply appropriate medicaments according to the syndrome.
Western medicine highly推崇 (advocates) the washing method for sores and ulcers, but its goal is mostly cleaning and sterilization. In contrast, the Chinese medicine washing method aims to soothe Ying and Wei (nutritive and defensive qi) and harmonize qi and blood. Since the goals differ, the Chinese medicine washing method deserves serious attention.
