Bing Ju (Hairless Carbuncle): It belongs to the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian, which is characterized by abundant Qi and Blood. The lesion arises at Touwei (ST8). Initially, it resembles a boil, gradually enlarging until it becomes hard as stone, with skin texture resembling that of a pig's hide. If accompanied by brownish eyes, delirium during sleep, mental confusion, vomiting of fresh blood, and the spread of toxicity to the four limbs, the prognosis is extremely poor, with only one chance in ten thousand for survival.
Jiu Ju (Nine Carbuncles): This condition, known as "Jiu Ju," involves the occurrence of nine lesions throughout a person's life. The initial swelling is severe. Diagnosis requires assessing the patient's deficiency or excess syndrome, the depth of the toxin, the consistency of the pus (thin or thick), and the timing of ulceration. Prognosis is determined by verifying the "Five Good Signs" and "Seven Bad Signs." If there are only two or three lesions, the condition is relatively mild.
Fei Ju (Lung Carbuncle): It belongs to the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel). The lesions occur at the areas of Zigong (RN15) and Yutang (RN16). Also known as Tian Huo Chuang (Heavenly Fire Sore), it arises on the chest. Puncture may be performed after ten days of swelling. If yellowish-white pus drains, it is treatable. If no pus forms, the swelling enlarges and spreads laterally; with hardness above and emptiness below, inability to expel pus, diminished spirit, continuous discharge after spontaneous rupture, and pain radiating upon coughing and expectoration, the prognosis is fatal.
Du Ju (Maggot Carbuncle): It belongs to the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian, characterized by abundant Qi and Blood. The lesion arises in the region between the two Quepen (ST12) acupoints. Also known as Fa Li Ju, puncture may be performed after ten days. If no pus forms, it is called Shi Ju (Stone Carbuncle); if multiple heads regenerate (four or five), appearing in a mother-child relationship with varying sizes, it is also named Li Chuang, indicating a very malignant condition. If the toxin enters the Heart, death ensues; however, if white pus appears with red swelling and the patient retains taste sensation for food, survival is possible.
Wan Ju (Wrist Carbuncle): It belongs to the Hand-Jueyin Pericardium Meridian, characterized by abundant Blood and deficient Qi. The lesion arises at Tianchi (PC1) and areas associated with the Foot-Sanyin and Foot-Sanyang meridians. Initially, it manifests under the hypochondrium and on both legs and feet, presenting as red swelling and itching. If it does not ulcerate within twenty-five days, the prognosis is fatal. If punctured on the ninth day and red pus drains, it is treatable. If internal application results in surrounding redness and dryness, and black fatty tissue is visible within the wound, it is incurable. This condition often arises from trauma or falls.
Yao Ju (Waist Carbuncle): It belongs to the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian, characterized by abundant Blood and deficient Qi. The lesion arises at Weishu (BL21) and Weicang (BL49). If the treatment successfully promotes ulceration and drainage, the condition stabilizes. If the upper part is red and the lower part black, and it fails to ulcerate within twenty days, death occurs. Similarly, if the color is bluish-black with no pus but bleeding fluid, it is also fatal.
