Guyang Ju (Abscess on the Anterior Thigh) occurs on the lateral aspect of the thigh; the pathogenic toxin invades inward to the bone without changing the skin color. Huantiao Ju (Abscess at the Huantiao Point) causes swelling of the leg and difficulty in extension. Both conditions are caused by the conglomeration of Wind, Dampness, and Cold pathogens.
[Note] Guyang Ju arises on the lateral aspect of the thigh, posterior to the tip of the hip joint. Its toxin invades inward to the bone joints, and the pus reaches deep into the bone, hence presenting as diffuse swelling with unchanged skin color. Huantiao Ju arises at the Huantiao acupoint located between the hip bone joints, causing difficulty in flexion and extension of the waist, presenting as diffuse swelling and dull pain. These two syndromes are all formed by the conglomeration of Wind, Dampness, and Cold. They belong to the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian. In the initial stage, it is appropriate to take Huanggou Xiake Fang (Yellow Dog Mandible Formula), and puncture Weizhong BL-39 to release dark blood, after which the leg can move freely. If there is diffuse swelling and severe pain, Neituo Huangqi Tang (Internal Support Astragalus Decoction) should be taken for both. If there is pain accompanied by tendon spasm, Wanling Dan (Myriad Miracles Pill) should be used to induce sweating. After the pain subsides, Shenyang Zhenzhen Dan (Spiritually Responding Nourishing True Pill) should be taken. If there is wandering pain throughout the body and swelling on the dorsum of both feet, Wanling Dan should also be taken to induce sweating; after the pain subsides, Dafangfeng Tang (Great Ephedra Decoction) with increased doses of Renshen (Ginseng Root), Baizhu (Atractylodes Rhizome), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root), etc., should be taken to promote circulation and resolve swelling. If there is throbbing pain indicating impending ulceration, Tuoli TouNong Tang (Supporting Interior and Penetrating Pus Decoction) should be taken. After ulceration, if the pus is clear and thin, Shiquan Dabu Tang (Complete Great Tonifying Decoction) with Xixian Cao (Dipsacus Root) added should be taken, and externally, Douchi Bing Jiu (Fermented Soybean Cake Moxibustion) should be applied. If the wound opening is purple and depressed, Shiquan Dabu Tang with Fuzi (Aconite Lateral Root) added should be taken, and externally, Fuzi Bing Jiu (Aconite Cake Moxibustion) should be applied. Loss of appetite indicates weak Stomach Qi; all deficiencies derive from the Spleen and Stomach, so Xiangsha Liujunzi Tang (Aucklandia and Amomum Six Gentlemen Decoction) with Sha Ren (Amomum Fruit) removed and Danggui added should be taken. Once the appetite strengthens, continue taking Shiquan Dabu Tang. Pain in the ulcerated area indicates deficiency of Qi and Blood, requiring vigorous tonification. All external treatments follow the protocols for Tumors/Abscesses (Swelling/Ulceration) sections. However, Huantiao Ju, once ulcerated, often becomes a chronic lower limb ulcer (Zhong Ji).
Huanggou Xiake Fang (Yellow Dog Mandible Formula)
Huanggou Xiake (Yellow dog mandible, including tongue and skin/fur, split off, placed in a jar, sealed with salt mud, covered with an iron lid, burned for the duration of one incense stick; stop when smoke clears. It is crucial to preserve the medicinal nature; the color should be black like charcoal. If white remains, the potency is lost and it is useless. Grind into an extremely fine powder for use. Use mandibles from dogs slaughtered by butchers; live capture or specific slaughter may invite misfortune.)
Wandou Fen (Pisum Sativum Seed Powder)
Bailian Mo (Paeonia Anomala Root Powder)
Mix these three ingredients in equal parts. Take 5 qian per dose, mixed with warm yellow wine on an empty stomach. Externally, mix this powder with sesame oil and apply to the affected area. The treatment is effective when foul sweat is discharged and the patient falls into a deep sleep.
[Formula Song] Yellow dog mandible with tongue skin, sealed in jar with mud and fire suitable; Pisum seed powder mixed with Paeonia anomala, wine-mixed cures buttock and thigh abscesses completely.
