Infants born with fetal tumors (fetal tumor), the root cause lies in fetal heat and blood stasis. If the mass turns purple, gradually enlarges, and matures to suppuration, pricking it to drain the pus will lead to natural recovery.
[Note] This condition arises from accumulated heat in the mother prior to pregnancy, causing heat in the uterus, compounded by blood stasis and knotting. It commonly occurs on the head and between the chest and breasts. Initially resembling a plum pit, it gradually enlarges to the size of a steamed bun, appearing purplish-red and slightly hard, with diffuse swelling but little pain. For those present at birth, one must wait until after one month when the lesion matures and suppuration is evident before pricking it; draining red-bean-like fluid or pus water will cause the swelling to subside. Initially, administer Wufu Huadu Dan (Five Blessings Toxin-Resolving Pill) and apply Huanglian Gao (Coptis Ointment); after ulceration, apply Shengji Yuhong Gao (Muscle-Regenerating Jade-Red Ointment) to promote tissue regeneration and wound closure. For those developing after one month, one must wait for the pus to swell and mature before pricking. If the tumor skin contains blood threads, see the entry for "Red Thread Tumor."
Wufu Huadu Dan (see Chiyou Dandu)
Huanglian Gao (see Nasal Ulcer)
Shengji Yuhong Gao (see Ulcer Section)
Infants born with red thread tumors (red thread tumor), the presence of blood threads in the skin stems from congenital factors. This results from latent fire in the kidneys hiding within the essence and blood, transmitted via qi to the offspring, making it difficult to cure completely.
[Note] This condition is also known as fetal tumor, with no fixed location, growing from small to large. It may be present at birth or develop within one to two years after birth. The tumor skin is red, containing blood threads internally, and may also rupture spontaneously. Although the treatment method is similar to that of fetal tumors, this disease originates from congenital latent fire in the kidneys, where blood threads in the essence are transmitted via qi to the child, eventually transforming into a fire syndrome, making ulcerated areas difficult to heal.
The onset of fetal eczema (fetal eczema) begins between the head and eyebrows, caused by blood heat and wind entanglement while in the womb. Symptoms include dryness, itching, white scales, or exudation of damp fluids; when heat is extreme, red halos appear, resembling huodan (fire carbuncle).
[Note] This condition occurs on the infant's crown or eyebrow tips, also known as milk tinea (milk tinea). Itchy with white scales, resembling tinea or scabies, it is caused by fetal blood heat and lingering wind pathogen after birth; this is classified as dry type. If mistakenly washed with hot water, millet-sized bumps appear on the skin, intense itching ensues, yellow fluid exudes and spreads over the body, becoming wet type. Both types are treated with Xiaofeng Daochi Tang (Wind-Dispersing and Heart-Clearing Decoction); the dry type is smeared with Runji Gao (Moisturizing Muscle Ointment); the wet type uses powder made from tender Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark) mixed equally with Huashi (Talcum Powder). If crusts are too thick, apply Runji Gao again to moisturize. Another variant involves extreme heat causing fiery skin with成片 (patchy) red halos, wandering like huodan (fire carbuncle); treatment should not focus on astringency but rather on venting outward. Administer Wufu Huadu Dan (Five Blessings Toxin-Resolving Pill) and smear with Runji Gao (Moisturizing Muscle Ointment); for severe itching, use Wuyun Gao (Dark Cloud Ointment). Nursing mothers must avoid river and sea fish, seafood, chicken, goose, spicy foods, wind-aggravating items, and fa-wu (stimulating foods); gradual improvement will follow.
