Swallowing an iron needle into the throat is an emergency; immediately drink the blood of several toads. If the needle does not come out immediately, administer *Tiaoli San* (Broom Bristle Powder) or consume maltose syrup to facilitate its expulsion without retention.
[Note] When an iron needle is mistakenly swallowed into the throat, conventional medicines are ineffective. It is advisable to use several common toads (*Bufo bufo gargarizans*), remove their heads, hang them upside down to collect the flowing blood in a bowl until about one cup is obtained, and pour it into the throat. After some time, the needle will be vomited out along with the blood, becoming soft and curved. Another method involves using old broom bristles that have been processed to retain their medicinal properties, ground into powder, taken three qian per dose, mixed with yellow wine, which can also dissolve the needle. Alternatively, consuming one jin of maltose syrup will cause the needle to pass naturally.
Swallowing a copper coin may initially cause no pain, but if retained in the abdomen for a long time, it will inevitably lead to disease. Water chestnut (*Eleocharis dulcis*) can soften hard objects; consuming it freely can help dissolve the coin.
[Note] For accidentally swallowed copper coins, eating many water chestnuts can soften the hardness. If ironware or bones are swallowed and cannot move through the intestines, causing a sensation of heaviness or dropping, consuming plenty of green vegetables and pork fat will naturally guide them into the large intestine to be excreted with feces, which is very effective.
Fishbones stuck in the throat are most worrying, causing stabbing pain and obstruction during swallowing. Fishbones must be treated by administering duck saliva, while animal bones require dog saliva for cure.
[Note] This condition arises from swallowing food too hastily, causing a bone to lodge in the throat, obstructing diet and causing stabbing pain upon swallowing. Immediate treatment is required. There is a distinction between fishbones and animal bones. For swallowed fishbones, use a live duck raised in a river, hang it upside down to collect its saliva in a porcelain bowl, and frequently administer it to the patient while lying supine, which will dissolve the bone. For swallowed animal bones, use a dog, hang it upside down to collect saliva, and administer as above, which will also dissolve the bone; both methods are effective. If treatment is delayed, leading to swelling, pain, ulceration, and suppuration of the throat, apply *Bingpeng San* (Ice and Borax Powder) via insufflation; do not recklessly administer cold-natured drugs. If the bone is large, making swallowing difficult and damaging stomach qi due to starvation, the case is considered difficult to save.
*Bingpeng San* (see section on Thrush in the Mouth category)
For whip marks (杖疮), one must observe the morphology, clearly distinguishing between broken and unbroken skin. For broken wounds, apply *Qingliang Niantong Gao* (Cooling Pain-Relieving Ointment) to reduce swelling and relieve pain. For unbroken wounds with blood stasis, phlebotomy with bi stone (砭) is indicated, and internally, *Dacheng Tang* (Great Success Decoction) should be urgently administered. Apply *Yuhong Gao* (Jade Red Ointment) to areas of bruising and necrosis; applying it will promote natural regeneration of new flesh.
[Note] This type of wound is divided into broken and unbroken categories. For broken wounds, apply *Qingliang Niantong Gao* immediately after whipping; pain and swelling will subside quickly. For unbroken wounds where blood stasis attacks inward, urgently perform phlebotomy to remove stasis, and internally take *Dacheng Tang*; recovery occurs once bowel movements normalize. For injured areas with bruising, necrosis, and pain, apply *Shengji Yuhong Gao* (Flesh-Regenerating Jade Red Ointment); necrotic tissue will naturally slough off and new tissue will regenerate, with very rapid results.
*Qingliang Niantong Gao*: Mix 1 liang of *Ruyi Jinhuang San* (Ruyi Golden Yellow Powder) with 3 qian of borneol powder (*Zhangnao*). Take 3–4 jin of raw white calcined gypsum rock (*Duanshi*), soak it in water so that the water level is 2–3 fingers above the lime, and leave it exposed overnight. Gently scoop up the oily film floating on the surface of the gypsum, resembling cloud slices, along with some water, into a bowl. Mix one cup of this gypsum water with one cup of sesame oil, stir vigorously with a bamboo chopstick for 100 turns until it forms a thick paste. Adjust the consistency with the aforementioned powders. Do not wash with hot water. Apply evenly to the injured area, cover with paper, and bind with cloth. In summer, change daily; in winter, change every two days. Then wash clean with scallion decoction and reapply, continuing until swelling subsides and pain stops.
[Formula Song]: *Qingliang Niantong* uses *Jinhuang San*, add three qian of borneol powder; for painful broken whip wounds, mix with gypsum water and oil to cure.
