Chuang (Ulcer) is formed by the aggregation of Wind, Heat, Dampness, and Toxin pathogens. It is distinguished by its duration (new vs. old) and location (internal vs. external). For new ulcers, self-healing can be achieved by applying Sanxiang Gao (Three Fragments Ointment) or Ruxiang Fazhi (Frankincense-Processed Paper). For those that have persisted for a while and turned purple-black, applying Jiedu Zijin Gao (Detoxifying Purple Gold Ointment) and bandaging will gradually lead to recovery. For stubborn ulcers that have lasted for years, characterized by black, sunken skin and flesh with an unbearable foul odor, Wugong Qian (Centipede Paste) should be used to dispel Wind-Toxin and resolve stasis and putrefaction, which is the only way to achieve cure. Externally, taking Sisheng Wan (Four Generations Pill) frequently is beneficial; internally, taking Shenqi Wan (Kidney Qi Pill) frequently is also effective.
Sanxiang Gao (Three Fragments Ointment)
Sanxiang Gao contains Frankincense and Pine Rosin, mixed with Calomel using Sesame Oil, and stored within sandwiched paper.
Wash the area with Scallion Decoction before applying and bandaging; it is suitable for both new and chronic ulcerating sores.
Herbs: Ruxiang (Boswelliae Cartharsii Resina), Songxiang (Pini Resina), Qingfen (Calomelas) in equal parts.
Grind the above herbs into fine powder, mix with Sesame Oil to a thick consistency. Take a sheet of sandwiched paper, prick dense fine holes with a needle, and apply the medicine between the layers of paper. First, wash the sore with Scallion Decoction, then apply the side with holes directly onto the ulcer. Change once every three days for effectiveness. Avoid sexual intercourse and fried/spicy foods.
Ruxiang Fazhi (Frankincense-Processed Paper)
Ruxiang Fazhi possesses miraculous efficacy; when encountering painful ulcers,
its power lies in the synergy with Calomel; changing the paper every three days brings a smile to the patient's face.
Indication: Ulcers causing pain that do not heal.
First, grind Frankincense into a fine powder, one tael, for use. Take four sheets of Chengwen oil-paper. Spread each sheet flat and sieve two qian five fen of Frankincense powder evenly over each sheet. Fold the paper in half, roll it into a cylinder one cun wide, then fold the rolled paper into three sections. Tie both ends with thread. Use twelve qian of Licorice Root, add three bowls of water, and immerse the rolled medicated paper in the Licorice Decoction. Press down with a heavy object on top. Boil until it rolls several times, then remove the paper, untie the threads, and spread the paper flat on a table. For each sheet, sprinkle three qian of Calomel onto the Frankincense, brush evenly with Palm Paste using a palm-bristle brush. Lift the medicated paper and, while still damp, paste the unmedicated side against a board wall to dry in the shade for storage. When ready for use, cut the paper according to the size of the lesion. First, wash the ulcer with warm water, then apply the medicated side to the sore and bandage with silk gauze. Change once every three days; this will naturally stop pain and generate tissue. If no fluid exudes after application, there is no need to change the dressing; it will heal spontaneously.
Wugong Qian (Centipede Paste)
Wugong Qian treats long-standing stubborn ulcers; decoct Angelica Pubescens, Tung Oil, and Angelica Dahurica.
Add Licorice Root and decoct together; pour into the ulcer to eliminate black putrefaction.
Indication: Ulcers persisting for many years, with black, putrid, foul-smelling, and painful tissue, where other medicines are ineffective.
Use two taels of Tung Oil, and one qian each of Angelica Pubescens, Angelica Dahurica, Licorice Root, and Centipede. Fry them in the oil until boiling. First, clean the ulcer thoroughly. Prepare a barrier using a paste made of white flour and water, forming a ring around the four sides of the ulcer to prevent the escape of medicinal vapor and oil leakage. Keep the affected limb flat. Using a tea spoon, slowly add the hot oil until the area is filled. Once the oil temperature is appropriate, remove excess oil. Subsequently, the necrotic flesh and Wind-Toxin will naturally detach. Apply Jiedu Zijin Gao (Detoxifying Purple Gold Ointment) on top, cover with paper, and bandage with silk gauze. Change once every three days.
Jiedu Zijin Gao (Detoxifying Purple Gold Ointment) (See section on Syphilitic Sores/Jiedu Men)
Indication: Suitable for all ulcers, regardless of whether they are new or old, as well as stubborn ulcers that have not healed for years.
Sisheng Wan (Four Generations Pill)
Sisheng Wan treats chronic ulcers accompanied by bone and joint pain and restricted movement.
Earthworm, White Aconite Rhizome, Bombyx Batryticatus, etc.; Do not forget Grass Aconite and Trogopterus Dung.
Indication: External blood-wind stubborn ulcers, bone and joint pain preventing movement, difficulty walking, generalized pruritus, numbness and insensitivity, or the appearance of macules and papules. All are effectively treated.
Herbs: Dilong (Pheretima), Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus, stir-fried, remove silk), Baifuzi (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Rhizoma), Wulingzhi (Trogopterori Faeces), Caowu (Aconiti Radix, remove skin and tip, soak) in equal parts.
Grind the above herbs into fine powder, form pills with rice paste to the size of tung tree seeds. Take 30-40 pills per dose, administered before meals with tea or wine as desired.
Shenqi Wan (Kidney Qi Pill) (See section on Lung Abscess/Feiyong Men)
