夫药者，治病之物。盖流变在乎病，主治在乎药，制用在乎人，三者不可阙一也。凡
用一味炮炙修制及单方主疗，该引方书出处，不必随方标写。
朱砂
须研细，水飞，滤干。若入膏中者，待熬膏成，稍凝冷，即下急搅，勿令沉聚。大凡石
类，一一如此。
云母
即须用炼成熟粉。曾经妇人手拈者不效。《圣惠方》治汤火疮，羊髓和膏，涂之神良。
《千金方》如治金疮及诸恶疮，根据上涂敷，大效。
矾石（即白矾）
凡用，须木炭火上枯汁尽。主阴蚀恶疮，去鼻中息肉，生含咽津，治急喉闭。《肘后方
耳中卒肿痛，或有脓水者，以筒吹一字于耳中，以绵塞之立效。又治诸毒虫恶兽咬伤，敷之
则瘥。《千金方》以醋煮汤，溃蝎螫立瘥。王氏博济，治驴马汁毒伤人，疮肿痛，和黄丹敷
之。《灵苑方》治伤折疮肿，以沸汤投枯矾渍浴之。《御药院方》，治阴汗，以枯矾投沸汤
水银

水银粉（即轻粉）
主瘰 ，杀疥癣虫，酒 风。以羊髓和如膏涂及贴 疮，一上可。
锻石
主疥癣、骨疽、金疮风化者良。《外台秘要》方治风疹以浆水调热扫之，随手瘥。孙真
人治疥，淋锻石水温洗之，千年老者尤佳。
白麦饭石（即粗理黄石）
曾磨刀者佳。凡用，须用酽醋淬之，令屑落醋中者良。亦单用治发背，《神农本草》曰
，大凡石类，多主痈疽。
花蕊石
主金疮止血。合硫黄木炭火炒良，或只刮花蕊石末效。
黄
主痈疽久败疮，排脓止痛，兼五痔、鼠 止渴。《圣惠》、《千金》、《外台秘要》方
，治发背、脑疽，托里止渴，用黄 六两，甘草一两，锉细水煎，温服，无时，大效。
耳（即苍耳）
《千金翼方》∶疔肿，用根茎叶，炒灰存性，为末，醋泔淀和如泥涂之，一日三易之。
三日肿消，根疔自拔出。亦治诸肿，扫之寻瘥。
麻黄
凡用根节煮三沸，掠去沫，晒干，锉。
黄芩
凡用去腐芦，拣细实者佳。梅师方∶治诸丹，作末，水调扫之。亦治汤火伤。
乌头、附子
凡用，须炮裂，去皮脐。
半夏
凡用，汤洗七次，去滑。
羊蹄根
主干癣疥头秃，取根啮涂之效。《简要济众方》∶治癣疮久不瘥，取新者绞汁，和腻粉

楸树白皮
单用熬膏，贴痈疽、恶疮、疳 、痔疾；用其白马牙烧灰，治发背初生，用糁疮头上，

兔头
连皮骨，腊月细锉，瓶中封之百日，涂发脑疽、发背、恶疮（出《百一方》）
兔腹下白毛
治汤火疮已破者，先用胶水扫之，后用兔白毛贴之，毛落平复。胜金方治痔，用玩月砂

糊丸如梧桐子大。酒服三、五十丸，食后服，药尽患亦除根。《集验方》治一切痈肿，水调
牡蛎粉扫之，干即再扫，即消，名拔毒散。初虞世治瘰 ，用和甘草末，茶调五钱，服之神
效大验。
蛇蜕皮
诸方用治疔杂恶疮，十年不较者，全用炒存性，猪膏和涂之，其验神效。
蜘蛛
《圣惠》治瘰 ，不问新旧，或成 者，晒干为末，酥和如糊贴之，日三度，大效。《
千金》治发背疮，亦治鼠 。神良谭氏治赘瘤 目，以网丝作线，际根系之，一宿自落。
蜣螂
《圣惠》治一切恶疮，端午日收干为末者，油调敷之神效。《子母秘录》治忽得恶疮，

陈橘皮
凡用温水浸去白；青橘皮亦然。
枇杷叶
主呕逆下气。凡用，去毛刺，甘草汤洗，三叶重一两者佳。
桃杏仁
凡用，须汤浸去皮尖双仁，炒锉或研。
无心草
凡用，去芦苗，煎洗甲瘭疽，神效。
防风
凡用去叉芦。
藜芦
凡用去苗。
犀角
凡用，生不曾见火者，即镑错为末。
茯苓
凡用，去粗皮，白者佳。
芍药
亦用白者佳。
牵牛子
凡用，黑成熟者微炒。假如一斤，取头末四两。
药物，是用来治疗疾病的物质。药物的疗效取决于病情的变化，主治功能取决于药物本身，而炮制使用则取决于人的操作，这三者缺一不可。凡是使用单味药进行炮制修治以及单方主治疮肿的方法，应当引用方书的出处，不必在方剂中逐一标注。
朱砂

凡使用，必须在木炭火上煅烧至汁液干枯。主治阴部蚀烂恶疮，去除鼻中息肉，含服咽下津液，治疗急性喉闭。《肘后方》治疗耳中突然肿痛，或有脓水者，用竹筒吹入一字的量于耳中，用棉塞住，立见成效。又治疗各种毒虫和猛兽咬伤，敷上即可痊愈。《千金方》用醋煮汤，溃散蝎子蜇伤，立即痊愈。王氏《博济方》治疗驴马汗毒伤人，疮肿疼痛，与黄丹混合敷用。《灵苑方》治疗跌打损伤疮肿，用沸水冲泡枯矾浸泡洗浴。《御药院方》治疗阴汗，将枯矾投入沸水中……
水银
主治疥癣、痂伤、白秃，入膏药，令膏药冷凝后加入，搅拌使其均匀分散如星状，不要让它沉淀聚集。
水银粉（即轻粉）
主治瘰疬，杀灭疥癣虫，治疗酒齄风。用羊髓调和如膏涂抹及贴敷疮口，一次即可见效。
锻石
主治疥癣、骨疽、金创风化者效果良好。《外台秘要》方治疗风疹，用浆水调匀热扫患处，随手痊愈。孙真人治疗疥疮，淋洗锻石水温洗患处，陈年老物效果更好。
白麦饭石（即粗理黄石）
曾磨过刀的更好。凡使用，需用浓醋淬炼，让碎屑落入醋中的为好。也可单用治疗发背，《神农本草经》说，大凡石类，多主治痈疽。
花蕊石
主治金创止血。配合硫黄在木炭火上炒制效果好，或者只刮取花蕊石粉末也有效。
黄芪
主治痈疽久败疮，排脓止痛，兼治五痔、鼠瘘、止渴。《圣惠方》、《千金方》、《外台秘要》方中，治疗发背、脑疽，托里排毒止渴，用黄芪六两，甘草一两，切碎用水煎煮，随时温服，效果显著。
苍耳（即苍耳）
《千金翼方》：治疗疔肿，用根茎叶，炒灰存性，研为末，用醋和米泔水调如泥状涂抹，一日更换三次。三天后肿胀消退，疔根自行拔出。也治疗各种肿胀，扫敷后很快痊愈。
麻黄
凡使用，将根节煮沸三沸，撇去浮沫，晒干，切碎。
黄芩
凡使用，去掉腐朽的芦头，挑选细小坚实的为佳。梅师方：治疗各种丹毒，研为末，用水调匀扫敷患处。也治疗汤火烫伤。
半夏
凡使用，用汤水洗七次，去掉滑腻感。
羊蹄根
主治干癣、疥疮、头秃，取根咀嚼涂抹有效。《简要济众方》：治疗癣疮久不愈，取新鲜的榨汁，与腻粉调和成膏……
野狼毒
主治痈疽、恶疮、鼠瘘。《圣惠方》治疗多年癣疮，搔抓后流出黄汁、痒痛，用粉末敷上，或用猪脂……
芭蕉根
主治疮肿。捣取根汁涂抹效果良好。《百一方》治疗发背，用根汁涂抹。
蒲公草（蒲公英）
主治乳痈。煮汁饮用可自行消散。梅师方外敷也能消散。
滑石
本草未提及治疗疮肿，但其本体较适合治疗各种久不愈合的疮，消除热毒肿及金创出血不止，汤火烧伤，用它尤其好。
白石英
主治肺痈吐脓咳嗽及膈上风热痰、肺痿、消渴、阴痹。补益五脏。
赤石脂

《圣惠方》治疗一切恶疮，端午日收集干燥研为末，油调敷之神效。《子母秘录》治疗突然得的恶疮，识得的人，取新鲜的榨汁敷在上面大效。古今各方，治疗疔疮欲死者，取蜣螂心腹部稍微白的是，用针刺疔疮中心及四周，用心涂抹贴敷，百苦立即停止。经过一夜，疔疮自行拔出。大忌食羊肉，否则多无效。
枇杷叶
主治呕逆下气。凡使用，去掉毛刺，甘草汤洗涤，三片重一两的为佳。

Mica (Yunmu)
Must be used as refined powder. Those handled by women's hands are ineffective. *Shenghui Fang* treats burns and scalds by mixing with sheep marrow to form an ointment for application, which is highly effective. *Qianjin Fang* treats metal wounds and various malignant sores by applying according to the above method, showing great efficacy.
Alum (Fanshi, i.e., Bai Fan)
When used, must be calcined over charcoal fire until dry. It treats genital erosion and malignant sores, removes nasal polyps, and treats acute throat obstruction by holding in the mouth and swallowing saliva. *Zhouhou Fang* treats sudden ear swelling and pain with pus by blowing a "yi zi" amount into the ear via a bamboo tube and plugging with cotton for immediate effect. It also treats bites from poisonous insects and beasts; application leads to recovery. *Qianjin Fang* uses vinegar-boiled decoction to heal scorpion stings immediately. Wang Shi's *Boji Fang* treats injuries from horse sweat toxins causing sore swelling, mixed with Minium (Huang Dan). *Lingyuan Fang* treats traumatic sores and swelling by soaking/bathing in boiling water infused with calcined alum. *Yuyao Yuan Fang* treats dampness in the groin area by adding calcined alum to boiling water...
Mercury (Shuiyin)
Treats scabies, tinea capitis with crusts, and alopecia areata. When added to ointments, incorporate after cooling and solidification, stirring until evenly dispersed like stars, avoiding sedimentation.
Calomel (Shuiyin Fen, i.e., Qing Fen)
Treats scrofula, kills scabies and lice mites, and treats rhinophyma (Jiu Zao Feng). Mix with sheep marrow to form an ointment for application; one application suffices.
Calcined Stone (Duanshi)
Effective for scabies, bone abscesses, and wind-induced changes in metal wounds. *Waitai Mi Yao* treats wind-rash by mixing with rice wash water, heating, and sweeping the affected area for immediate cure. Sun Simiao treats scabies by washing with warm water infused with calcined stone; aged material is better.
White Wheat Rice Stone (Baimai Fanshi, i.e., Culi Huangshi)
Those used for sharpening knives are best. Must be quenched in strong vinegar to allow fragments to fall into the vinegar. Can be used alone for back carbuncles. *Shennong Bencao Jing* states that most stones treat carbuncles and ulcers.
Huari Stone (Huarui Shi)
Stops bleeding in metal wounds. Stir-fried with sulfur over charcoal fire for good results, or scraping Huari stone powder alone is also effective.
Astragalus (Huangqi)
Treats chronic, non-healing carbuncles and ulcers, expels pus, relieves pain, and treats five types of hemorrhoids, scrofula, and thirst. Formulas from *Shenghui*, *Qianjin*, and *Waitai Mi Yao* treat back carbuncles and brain abscesses, supporting the interior and stopping thirst: use 6 liang of Astragalus and 1 liang of Licorice, chopped and decocted in water, taken warm at any time, showing great efficacy.
Xanthium (Er, i.e., Cang Er)
*Qianjin Yi Fang*: For carbuncles, use roots, stems, and leaves, stir-fry to ash retaining nature, grind to powder, mix with vinegar and rice bran water to paste, apply three times daily. Swelling subsides in three days, and the carbuncle root extracts itself. Also treats various swellings; sweeping application leads to quick cure.
Ephedra (Mahuang)
When used, boil roots and nodes for three boils, skim off foam, dry, and chop.
Scutellaria (Huangqin)
When used, remove rotten rhizomes; select fine and solid ones. Mei Shi's Formula: Treats various erysipelas forms by grinding to powder, mixing with water, and sweeping application. Also treats burns and scalds.
Aconite Root (Wutou) and Aconite Lateral Root (Fuzi)
When used, must be processed until cracked, removing skin and navel.
Pinellia (Banxia)
When used, wash seven times in hot water to remove slipperiness.
Rumex Root (Yangti Gen)

Metaplexis (Yelangdu)
Treats carbuncles, malignant sores, and scrofula. *Shenghui Fang* treats chronic tinea sores with yellow discharge, itching, and pain by applying powder, or using lard...
Banana Root (Bajiao Gen)
Treats sores and swellings. Crushing root and applying juice is effective. *Baiyi Fang* treats back carbuncles by applying root juice.
Aristolochia Root (Tu Qingmuxiang, i.e., Madouling Gen)
Treats head wind, itching, and bald scalp sores.
Forsythia (Lianqiao)
Treats chills and fever, scrofula, carbuncles, malignant sores, and goiters; taken with Licorice.
Dandelion (Pugong Cao)
Treats mastitis. Drinking the decoction causes spontaneous resolution. Mei Shi's Formula applied externally also resolves it.
Talc (Huashi)
Although the Materia Medica does not mention treating sores/swellings directly, its nature suits treating chronic non-healing sores, eliminating heat-toxin swelling, stopping bleeding in metal wounds, and treating burns/scalds effectively.
White Quartz (Baishiyin)
Treats lung abscess with pus cough, wind-heat phlegm above the diaphragm, lung wasting, wasting-thirst syndrome, and yin bi. Tonifies the five zang organs.
Red Halloysite (Chishizhi)
Treats sores/abscesses, hemorrhoids, and diarrhea. Mix equal parts with Ligusticum (Xiong) powder, take 1 qian with gruel drink for miraculous effect. For cold patterns, add Dried Ginger (Ganjiang).
White Halloysite (Baishizhi)
Treats carbuncles/ulcers, expels pus, promotes tissue regeneration, and treats neonatal umbilical wetness.
Realgar (Xionghuang)
Treats chills/fever, scrofula, malignant sores, carbuncles, hemorrhoids, necrotic tissue, and scabies/tinea.
Sulfur (Huangliu)
Treats female genital erosion, carbuncles, hemorrhoids, malignant sores, and scabies/tinea. Kills parasites.
Orpiment (Cihuang)
Treats malignant crusts/scabies, bald scalp, and hidden sores in the lower body. Kills parasites.
Magnetite (Cishi)
Eliminates swelling, treats scrofula cervical nodes, and sore throat.
Lead Monoxide (Mituo Seng)
Stops bleeding in metal wounds, treats oral ulcers and gum erosion, and facial scars.
Longtan Earth (Fulonggan)
Sprinkled to treat malignant sores; mixed with water to sweep erysipelas swelling; mixed with wine to seal back carbuncles to promote internal resolution.

Calamine (Luganshi)
Promotes wound healing and stops bleeding, treats red eyes and sores...
Centipede Grass (Dengxin)
Treats trauma with bleeding; apply to the wound and bandage for immediate cure.
Sophora Root Bark (Huai Genpi)
Treats hemorrhoids and vitiligo (Bai Pi); decoct for fumigation and bathing is effective, especially with Schizonepeta (Jingjie).
Wolfberry Root Bark (Digupi)
Treats chronic abscesses; wash with decoction of coarse bark. The fine white pith should be separately ground and sprinkled for cure.
Phellodendron (Huangbai)
Highly effective for sores/swellings. Remove coarse bark, honey-roast, and chop. Decoctions soak genital sores well. Powder mixed with honey water applies to swellings.
Bitter Orange (Zhiqiao)
When used, stir-fry with bran, remove pulp, and chop. Zhisshi is treated similarly.
Magnolia Bark (Nongpu)
When used, remove coarse bark, coat with ginger juice, roast until slightly charred, and chop.
Gleditsia Sinensis (Zaojiao)
When used, select non-borer specimens. Remove black skin and strings, roast with butter until yellow, and chop.
Momordica Charantia Seed (Mubiezi)
When used, remove shell. Treats malignant sores and toxic swelling. Sun Yonghe's Formula: For hemorrhoids, use 3-5 seeds, grind to paste, soak in boiling water. Fumigate first, then wash when tolerable, three times daily.
Chinese Fig Tree White Bark (Qiushu Baipi)
Boil alone into ointment for carbuncles, malignant sores, gum erosion, and hemorrhoids; burn "white horse tooth" part to ash for early-stage back carbuncles, sprinkle on sore, seal with ointment.
Rabbit Head
With skin and bone, finely chopped in December, sealed in jar for 100 days. Apply to brain abscess, back carbuncle, and malignant sores (from *Baiyi Fang*).
Rabbit Belly White Hair
For ruptured burns/scalds, first apply glue, then rabbit white hair; upon shedding, skin heals. Shengjin Fang treats hemorrhoids using "Wanyue Sha" (rabbit feces), mixed with Frankincense powder, taken with wine, 3 qian, three times daily for cure.
Honey (Mi)
Refine by boiling and skimming foam. *Waitai* treats genital sores by mixing honey with Licorice powder for application (miraculous). *Zhouhou Fang* applies honey alone to burns/scalds.
Oyster Shell (Muli)
When used, roast in charcoal ash until red-hot, place on damp ground overnight before use. Empirical Formula for scrofula: Oyster Shell 4 liang, Scrophularia (Xuanshen) 3 liang, make pills like wu-tong seeds. Take 30-50 pills with wine after meals; cures root cause. *Jiyan Fang* treats all swellings: sweep with Oyster Shell powder mixed with water; repeat when dry; named "Poison-Pulling Powder". Chu Yushi treats scrofula with Oyster Shell and Licorice powder, taken with tea, 5 qian, highly effective.
Snake Slough (Shetui Pi)
Used in formulas for carbuncles and malignant sores lasting ten years. Use whole, roast to retain nature, mix with lard for application; verification shows miraculous effect.
Spider
*Shenghui Fang* treats scrofula, new or old, or suppurated. Dry, grind to powder, mix with butter to paste, apply three times daily; great efficacy. *Qianjin Fang* treats back carbuncles and scrofula; highly effective. Tan Shi treats pedunculated fibromas: use spider web silk as thread, tie around base, falls off after one night.
Dung Beetle (Qianglang)
*Shenghui Fang* treats all malignant sores: collect on Dragon Boat Festival, dry, grind to powder, mix with oil for application (miraculous). *Zimu Milu* treats sudden malignant sores: crush fresh beetle, apply juice (great efficacy). Ancient/modern formulas for dying carbuncle patients: take the slightly white heart/abdomen of the beetle, prick the carbuncle center and four sides, apply heart to puncture site; pain stops immediately. Carbuncle extracts next day. Strictly avoid mutton, otherwise ineffective.
Aged Tangerine Peel (Chen Jupi)
When used, soak in warm water to remove white pith; Qing Jupi (Green Tangerine Peel) is treated similarly.
Loquat Leaf (Pipaye)
Treats vomiting and rebellious qi. When used, remove hairs/thorns, wash with Licorice decoction; three leaves weighing 1 liang are best.
Peach/Apricot Kernels (Taoren/Xingren)
When used, soak in hot water, remove skin and pointed ends, keep double-kernel ones, stir-fry, chop, or grind.
Wuxin Cao (Heartless Grass)
When used, remove rhizome/shoots, decoct to wash paronychia (Jiabongju); miraculous effect.
Saposhnikovia (Fangfeng)
When used, remove forked rhizomes.
Veratrum (Lilu)
When used, remove shoots.
Rhinoceros Horn (Xijiao)
When used, raw and never exposed to fire, shave/crush to powder.
Poria (Fuling)
When used, remove coarse bark; white variety is best.
Peony (Shaoyao)
White variety is also best.
Morning Glory Seed (Qianniuzi)
When used, select mature black ones, lightly stir-fry. From 1 jin, take the finest sifted powder, 4 liang.
