Infant umbilical wind disease arises from injury by water-dampness after the umbilical cord is severed. Alternatively, urine may soak into the infant's swaddling clothes without the nurse's awareness, allowing dampness to damage the umbilicus. This is also due to the invasion of wind pathogen.
For infants aged newborn to seven days presenting with umbilical wind swelling and the umbilical cord about to fall off but not yet detached, use the Xiongshu Fen San (Male Rat Feces Powder) formula.
Ingredients: Xiongshu Fen (Male rat feces, 7 pieces, lightly stir-fried), Hufen (Lead carbonate, 0.5 liang), Dazao (Jujube, 3 fen, pitted), Shexiang (Musk, 1 qian, finely ground), Mianbo Hui (Ash of cotton silk, 1 qian).
Preparation and Administration: Pound and grind the above ingredients into a powder. Observe if the umbilical cord is about to detach; apply the powder to the umbilicus. This prevents wind pathogen from entering.
To prevent umbilical wind and lockjaw (Shekou) within the first month for a newborn immediately after cord severing, apply this powder.
Ingredients: Que'er Fanwengzi (Clay pot used for feeding sparrows, 3 pieces), Luangfa (Tangled hair, size of a chicken egg, burned until smoke nearly ceases), Wugong (Centipede, approx. 1 cun, burned to ash), Lingyangjiao (Antelope horn).
Preparation and Administration: Mix the above ingredients and grind finely. After severing the umbilical cord, apply immediately for effective results.
For infant umbilical wind with continuous exudate, use the following prescription.
Ingredients: Huangbai Mo (Powder of Phellodendron bark), Fuxia Meimei (Soot from the bottom of a cauldron), Luangfa (Tangled hair, burned to ash; each of the above in equal parts, 1 fen).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the ingredients together until fine. Apply sparingly to the affected area.
For infant umbilical wind with damp swelling that persists for a long time without healing, use the following method.
Administration: Apply Danggui Mo (Powder of Angelica sinensis root) to the site; it is effective.
Another prescription.
Administration: Burn Zhengdai (cloth liner used in steaming baskets) to ash, grind finely, and apply; it is effective.
Another prescription.
Administration: Burn Gudia (Melon seed) to ash, grind finely, and apply; it is good.
Another prescription.
Administration: Burn Lufengfang (Honeycomb nest exposed to dew) to ash, grind finely, and apply; it is good.
Infant umbilical dampness also arises from exposure to dampness during bathing after the umbilical cord is severed, allowing water to enter the umbilical opening, causing swelling and dampness that fails to dry over time. Generally, after severing the umbilical cord... [text missing] ...it can heal.
For infant umbilical swelling and persistent dampness, use the Fengqi San (Seal Umbilicus Powder) formula.
Ingredients: Hufen (Lead carbonate, 1 fen), Xiongshu Fen (Male rat feces, 7 pieces burned to ash), Zhengdai (Steamer cloth liner, 1 liang burned to ash), Ganjiang Hui (Ash of dried ginger, 0.5 fen), Mianbo Hui (Ash of cotton silk, 0.5 fen), Bai... [text missing].
Preparation and Administration: Mix the above ingredients and grind finely. Add 1 qian of Shexiang Mo (Musk powder). When the umbilical cord is about to detach, seal the umbilicus to achieve healing. If applied prophylactically before onset, the disease will never occur.
For infant umbilical swelling with exudate persisting for a long time, use the following prescription.
Ingredients: Gancao (Licorice root, 3 fen, chopped), Lougu (Mole cricket, 3 fen, lightly stir-fried).
Preparation and Administration: Pound and sieve the ingredients into a powder. Apply to the umbilicus.
Another prescription.
Ingredients: Xingren (Apricot kernel, 0.5 liang, soaked in hot water and peeled), Zhuyajia Guzhong Sui (Medulla from the jawbone of a pig's canine tooth, 0.5 liang).

For infants born with continuous umbilical exudate persisting for a long time, use the following method.
Administration: Burn Feibo (Red silk fabric) to ash, grind finely, and apply to the umbilicus.
For infant umbilical dampness and swelling lasting over a month, use the following prescription.
Ingredients: Gan Xiamá (Dried toad, 1 fen, burned to ash), Baifan (Alum, 1 fen, burned to ash), Zaojiazi (Gleditsia sinensis seed, 1 fen, burned to ash).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the ingredients finely and uniformly. Apply sparingly to the umbilicus.
For infant umbilical redness and swelling with continuous exudate, use the following prescription.
Ingredients: Xiamá (Toad, 1 piece), Muli (Oyster shell, 1 piece).
Preparation and Administration: Burn both ingredients to ash and grind into a fine powder. Take a small amount and apply to the umbilicus. Apply two to three times daily until healed.
For infant umbilical dampness that does not dry, use the following prescription.
Ingredients: Baifan (Alum, 1 fen, burned to ash), Longgu (Fossilized mammal bones, 1 fen).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the ingredients finely and apply to the umbilicus. Continue until healed.
For infant umbilical dampness, use the Yanchi Yi (Salt and Fermented Soybean Moxibustion/Irrigation) method.
Ingredients: Yan (Salt, 2 liang), Chi (Fermented soybeans, 2 he).
Preparation and Administration: Pound the two ingredients thoroughly and form them into cakes the size of a coin. Place on a new tile and heat. Use to irrigate/press-warm the umbilicus to cure. Applying Huangbai Mo (Phellodendron powder) is also excellent.
For infant umbilical exudate that does not stop, accompanied by redness and swelling, use this immediate-effect prescription.
Ingredients: Baishizhi (White kaolin, 1 liang, finely ground).
Preparation and Administration: Heat until warm. Dust onto the umbilicus. Three times daily is beneficial.
Another prescription.
Administration: Burn Baifan (Alum) to ash, grind finely, and apply.
