Pediatric erythema (Chi Dan) is caused by severe wind-toxin pathogenic factors, resulting in redness of the skin. Initially, rashes erupt; those large are like linked coins, while smaller ones resemble hemp seeds or beans. Granular papules emerge on the flesh.
The Shengma Ointment Formula for treating pediatric erythema toxin and swelling:
Chuan Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Bai Lian (Ampelopsis Radix), Lou Lu (Euphorbiae Humifusae Herba), Chuan Mang Xiao (Natrii Sulfas), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix), Zhi Qiao (Aurantii Fructus Pericarpium), Lian Qiao (Forsythiae Fructum), She Xian (Siphonostegiae Herba) (each 1 liang); Zhi Zi Ren (Gardeniae Semen) (2 liang).
Finely chop the above herbs. Place 1 jin 1/2 lb of lard into a cauldron. Decoct the herbs over slow heat until the mixture turns reddish. Strain out the dregs. Allow to cool and store in a porcelain container.
For treating sudden onset of erythema on the face and body of children, accompanied by itching or swelling, which can be fatal if not treated promptly, use this formula:
Ling Yang Jiao (Capricornus Saigae Cornu) cut into shavings (8 liang).
Decoct in 5 sheng of water until reduced to 1 sheng. Filter through silk cloth to remove dregs. Add 5 liang of refined lard and mix evenly. Apply topically by rubbing.
For treating pediatric erythema:
Take buckwheat flour, mix with vinegar, and apply as a paste.
Another formula:
Lightly rub Ge Le Man (likely referring to a vine, possibly related to Pueraria or similar) until broken. Grind He Li Le (Chebulae Fructus) with vinegar and apply. This is effective.
Another formula:
Crush Hu Sui (Coriandri Fructus/Semen, commonly Coriander) to extract juice and apply.
Another formula:
Mix Hu Fen (Plumbum Subacetatum, lead powder) with saliva and apply from the periphery inward.
Pediatric melanoderma (Hei Dan) occurs when wind-toxin damages the muscles, causing the skin to turn black. It initially presents with itching and pain, or swelling, manifesting as slightly black lesions.
To treat pediatric melanoderma, topical application (Tuo) is suitable. The Shengma Decoction Formula:
Chuan Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) (2 liang), Lou Lu (Euphorbiae Humifusae Herba) (2 liang), Chuan Mang Xiao (Natrii Sulfas) (2 liang), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix) (3 liang), Zhi Zi Ren (Gardeniae Semen) (1 liang), Shuo Di (Polygoni Multiflori Caulis - *Note: Text fragment suggests Shuo Di*) (0.5 liang).
Finely chop and mix evenly. Use 3 liang per dose. Decoct in 5 sheng of water until reduced to 3 sheng. Strain. While still warm, dip a soft cloth into the decoction and apply via rotary pressing/patting onto the affected area to resolve the condition.
Another formula:
Feng Hua Duan Shi (Calcined Alumen) (2 liang), Mao Cao Hui (Ash of thatch grass from the four corners of a house) (3 liang).
Grind finely into a powder. Mix with egg white and apply. Use 3-5 times daily for effectiveness.
Another formula:
Chong Wei Zi (Leonuri Fructus), She Xian Cao (Siphonostegiae Herba), Hu Huo Cao (Herba of unknown specific identification, likely local name) (each 1 liang).
Mash thoroughly. Mix with egg white and apply.
Another formula:
Apply warm Qing Yang Zhi (Fat of Blue Sheep) by massage. Use 3-5 times daily.
Another formula:
Apply mud from under the pig trough.
Another formula:
Heat a pig-feeding scoop until hot and apply as a hot compress (Wen).
