Pain in the heart and abdomen that pulls or radiates between them is caused by deficiency of both the Foot-Taiyin (Spleen) meridian and its collaterals, allowing cold pathogenic factors to invade. The Foot-Taiyin is the meridian of the Spleen; it originates at the tip of the great toe, ascends to connect with the Spleen, and links with the Stomach. It then branches upward to enter the Heart. This meridian enters the Stomach, links with the Heart, and pours into the Heart. When this meridian is deficient and invaded by pathogens, the healthy Qi interacts with the invading cold Qi, causing severe, unbearable pain in the heart and abdomen.
