Carbuncle (Yong) arises when cold pathogens contend with blood, causing blood stasis and obstruction. Subsequently, heat pathogens converge upon this area, leading to congestion and coagulation. The pathogenic heat cannot be vented and internally steams the Zang-Fu organs, resulting in restlessness and thirst. In cases of carbuncles accompanied by intense heat and thirst, patients will drink excessively. If cold qi enters the intestines and stomach, it may transform into diarrhea; it may also transform into vomiting and hiccups. This occurs fundamentally due to underlying deficiency.
