All medicines rely on decoction vehicles (adjuvants that guide medicinal power to the disease site) for their action. The prescribed decoction vehicle should first be prepared by boiling heart-clearing herbs, then taken together with one cup of urine from an uncircumcised boy, or used for pain relief; in cases of severe injury, ginger decoction or Jiaxin Tang (Decoction of Centella Asiatica Herb) should be used to mix and administer the Twenty-Five Ingredient Medicine. Bohe Tang (Peppermint Decoction) is also acceptable.
In cases of external trauma or knife wounds, as well as injuries to the five zang and six fu organs, there is a risk of developing symptoms such as vexation, oppression, and sudden profuse bleeding. If bones are fractured, bone-setting medicine should be taken with ginger-wine and applied externally. If bones are shattered due to heavy blows, crushing by heavy wood, or stones, the aforementioned decoction vehicle method should be used first, and wine should not be used as a vehicle. For mild sprains or contusions, the Twenty-Five Ingredient Medicine should be taken mixed with ginger decoction, yielding immediate effects.
