Specifically treats Hong Kong Foot (a condition characterized by swelling, pain, and numbness in the feet), whether of long-standing or recent onset.
Ru Xiang (Frankincense) [Eunomiae Resina (Ruxiang, 乳香)] (separately ground into powder)
Xue Jie (Dragon's Blood) [Daemonorops Draconis (Xuejie, 血竭)] (separately ground into powder, equal parts)
Mix the powders evenly. Take one Qu Gua (Papaya Fruit) [Chaenomelis Fructus (Mugua, 木瓜)], remove the skin and core using a bamboo knife, cut off the top to serve as a lid. Fill the hollowed fruit with the mixed powder until full, then replace the lid. Wrap the fruit entirely in flour dough, approximately half a finger's thickness thick. Boil in a clay pot until extremely soft and mushy. Place the fruit along with the dough wrapper into a stone mortar and pound into a paste. Form pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds (Wu Tong Zi). Take thirty pills per dose, gradually increasing to forty pills. Administer on an empty stomach with warm wine or Qu Gua Tang (Papaya Decoction). Follow with dry food to settle the medicine. Avoid foods that cause Qi stagnation, raw/cold items, damp/greasy substances, and hard-to-digest solids.
Treats Hong Kong Foot.
Lian Zhu Gan Sui (Pear-shaped Kansui Root) [Kansui Radix (Gansui, 甘遂)] (one tael)
Mu Bie Zi (Monkey Head Seed) [Strychni Semen (Mubiezi, 木鳖子)] (shelled, select one male and one female seed of good quality)
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Take two pig kidneys, slice them open, and sprinkle one qian of the powder evenly over them. Wrap in multiple layers of paper and roast over fire until cooked, then let cool to warm. Chew thoroughly at Wu Geng (early morning, approx. 3-5 AM) and swallow with Mi Yin Tang (Rice Decoction). If the left foot is affected, use the left kidney; if the right foot is affected, use the right kidney. Only one qian of powder is needed.
In Piling, there was a wine merchant surnamed Ma who suffered from Shen Zang Feng (Kidney Wind, a type of rheumatic bi-syndrome). One foot swelled like a gourd, uniform in thickness from the waist down. The pain was unbearable; he could not turn in bed without assistance from two people. Some suggested incising it with a Pi Dao (scalpel). I prescribed this formula for him to take. He chewed it thoroughly at Wu Geng and swallowed it with rice water. By Chen Si time (approx. 7-11 AM), he discharged several sheng of pus resembling crystal. Immediately, the pain ceased and the swelling subsided. A month later, he still walked with crutches. I then applied Chi Wu San (Red Crow Powder) to his knees, after which he fully recovered. Ten years later, passing through Piling, he brought his sons to bow and thank me, stating that the foot ailment had never recurred, and his chronic Kidney Wind had also disappeared, allowing him to walk briskly without pain.
Divine efficacy for treating Hong Kong Foot.
Take the Mu Bie Zi (Monkey Head Seed) mentioned above, split each into two halves, and stir-fry with wheat bran. After frying, chop finely and stir-fry again. Use parchment paper to absorb all the oil until no more grease appears. For every one liang of prepared Mu Bie Zi, combine with one liang of Nong Gui (Concentrated Cinnamon Bark) [Cinnamomi Cortex (Guizhi/Rougui, 桂枝/肉桂)]. Grind together into a powder. Mix with hot wine and ingest until slightly intoxicated. Cover with blankets to induce sweating, and the condition will resolve. This formula is also known as the "Dream-Divinely Bestowed Formula."
