Conceived from the father's Yang essence and mother's Yin essence, resembling the beginning of fetal formation. When located on the left side of the maternal abdomen, the root of the Kidney (Zang organ responsible for storing essence and governing reproduction) is sufficient; when on the right, it is insufficient. The left side is the source where Qi and Blood originate, hence sufficient on the left but insufficient on the right. This is akin to Heaven and Earth generating all things: although originating from the same soil, the stems of plants vary in strength and weakness. Intelligence and stupidity generally depend on the clarity or turbidity of Qi for transformation. However, intelligence may exceed or fall short of the mean, and stupidity varies in degree, further divided by the sufficiency or insufficiency of the Kidney's primordial root. For instance, in twins receiving clear Qi, if positioned on the left, the Kidney root is sufficient, leading to intelligence often exceeding the average; if on the right, the root is insufficient, leading to intelligence often falling below average. If both receive turbid Qi but are positioned on the left, the turbidity becomes more prevalent, and stupidity becomes more severe.
Weng Kentang treated Zhang Jin, a Hundred-Household Commander (Baihu), who suffered from intermittent ear pain so severe it felt like death, with normalcy returning once the pain ceased. Upon palpating his pulse, Weng found it calm and peaceful, indicating no disease. During conversation, the pain suddenly erupted. Weng deduced the presence of insects and instructed applying cat urine into the ear. Indeed, a stink bug was expelled, and the pain never recurred. Alternatively, dripping sesame oil could kill the insect but make expulsion difficult; sleeping on a pillow of fried sesame seeds could also expel the insect, though not as quickly as cat urine.
[Shen Yuan's Note] Insects entering the ear include not only lice and stink bugs, but also creatures resembling centipedes, such as house centipedes (Scutigera coleoptrata), which can cause harm. Once, a person lying down during the day had a house centipede enter his ear. He gradually felt brain pain, realizing it had entered the brain, leaving him helpless. One day, while preparing lunch, he fell asleep leaning on the table. Suddenly sneezing in his sleep, he felt something exit through his nose. Upon inspection, he saw chicken dishes placed on the table, with the house centipede resting upon them; the pain immediately subsided.
Another person suffered from brain pain due to an insect entering the brain. Someone advised using peach leaves as a pillow. Overnight, the insect exited through the nose, resembling an eagle's beak, and its name was unknown to people.
