上各另为末，水丸桐子大，每服二百丸，空心百沸汤下。

补气升阳和中汤

每服三五钱，水煎，稍热服。
麝香丸
川乌（大者三个生用） 黑豆（二十一粒，生用） 全蝎（二十一个，生用） 地龙（五钱）
上末，入麝香半字，同研匀，糯米糊为丸，绿豆大，每服七丸，甚者十丸，夜卧令膈空，温酒下，微出冷汗一身便
瘥。此方凡是历节及不出痰痛，一二服便瘥。
升麻汤
升麻（三两） 茯神 人参 防风 犀角 羚角 羌活（一两） 官桂（五钱）
每服六钱，生姜一块捣碎，竹沥少许同煎至一盏，温服。
八珍汤
人参 白术 茯苓 甘草 生地 白芍 川芎 当归

《奇病方》云∶有人患背脊裂开一缝，出虱千余，此乃肾中有风，得阳气吹之故也，不觉破裂虱现。即服活水止虱
丹三剂，以减缝中之虱，再蓖麻三粒，红枣三枚，捣和为丸，如弹子大，置火熏衣，使不尽之虱俱死，而缝自合矣。
蓖麻子能杀虱去风，故用之相宜。
徐弦《稽神录》云∶浮梁李生，肩起如盂，惟痒不可忍，人皆不识。医士秦德立云∶此虱瘤也。以药敷之，一夕
瘤破，出虱斗余，即日体轻，但小窍不合，出虱不止而死。
《济生方》云∶有人患虚寒，积癖在背膜之外，流于两胁，气逆喘急，久则凝滞，溃为痈疽，多致不救。用胡椒三
百五十粒，蝎尾四个，生木香二钱半为末，粟米饭丸绿豆大，每服二十丸，橘皮汤下，名磨积丸。
《袖珍方》云∶有人患背腿间一点痛不可忍者，此痰血也。芫花根为末，米醋调敷之，如不住，以帛束之，妇人产
后尤多。
朱丹溪治一男子，忽患背胛缝有一线痛上肩，跨至胸前侧胁而上，其病昼夜不歇，痛不可忍，脉弦而数。重取豁
大，左大于右，夫背胛小肠经也。此必思虑伤心，心脏未病，而腑小肠先病，故从背胛起。又虑不能决，又归之于
胆，故痛至胸胁而止。乃小肠火乘肝木，子来乘母，是为实邪。询止，果因谋事不遂所致。用人参四分，木通二分，煎
汤吞龙胆丸，数服而愈。
戴人治一男子，年六十余，患腰尻脊胯皆痛，数载不愈。昼静夜躁，大痛往来，屡求自尽，日夕痛作，必令人以
手捶击，至四五更鸡鸣则渐减，向曙则病止。左右及病者皆疑祟病，朝祷暮祝，如僧道禁师至，则其痛似减。又梦鬼神
战斗，山川神庙，无不祭者，淹延岁月，肉瘦皮枯，饮食减少，暴怒日增，惟候一死。有书生曰∶既云祟病，如此祷
祈，何无一应？闻陈郡有张戴人，精于医，可以请治。其家请张戴人，诊其两手，脉皆沉滞坚劲。曰∶病虽瘦难以食，
然腰尻脊胯皆痛者，必大便坚硬。其左右曰∶有五七日，或八九日，见燥粪一两块，如弹丸大，结硬不可言，曾合人剜
去之仅下一两块，浑身燥痒，皮肤皱揭，枯涩如麸片。戴人既得病患之虚实，遂用大承气汤，以姜枣煎之，加牵牛头末
二钱。不敢言泻剂，盖病者闻暖则悦，闻寒则惧，说补则从，说泻则忌，此弊非一日也。而况一齐人传之，众楚人咻之
乎。及煎成，使稍热饮之，从少至多，服至三日，脏腑下泄四五行，约半碗，以灯视之，皆燥粪及瘀血杂至，秽不可
近，须臾痛减九分，昏睡鼻息调如常人。睡至明日将夕，始觉饥而索粥，温凉与之。又困睡一二日，其病尽去，次令饮
食调养，日服导赤甘露滑利便溺之药，四十余日乃康。呜呼！世传三十六虎书，三十六黄经，乃小儿三十六吊，谁为
之耶？始作俑者，其无后乎？古人以医为重，故医之道行。
今之人以医为轻，故医之道废。学人自局于术艺，病者亦不择精粗耳。《灵枢经》云∶刺与汗虽久，犹可拔而雪，结与
闭虽久，犹可解而决。夫腰脊胯痛者，足太阳膀胱经也。两胯，又足少阳胆经之所过也。《难经》曰∶诸病为实。《内
经》曰∶诸痛疡疮，皆属心火。注曰∶心寂则痛减，心躁则痛甚，病见僧道禁师至，则病稍去者，心寂也，少顷仍复是
耳，古之称痛随利减，不利则痛何由去，故凡躁症，皆三阳病也。
〔源按〕心寂则痛减，心躁则痛甚，此皆气随心役之道。如僧道禁师至，而痛稍减者，所谓心寂是也。盖心寂则
气静，气静故病觉减也。未几心复躁，而气亦不宁，故痛复如旧。要知人身最灵者，气也，如思食思色，着哀着怒，未
有不随心感发。不但人身之中感发如是，即人子而能时念父母，亦能与父母之气暗暗相感。虽远离亦能相应，如曾子心
痛，黔娄心惊，此气之相应故也。若父母在时及殁后，无时不念，则根本之气不绝，枝叶必茂，否则气已绝，焉得善
后，即善亦终必败。孔圣云∶身也者，亲之枝也，敢不敬与？不能敬其身，是伤其亲，伤其亲，是伤其本，伤其
本，枝从而亡。所以人能敬其身，即孝其亲也。孝其亲者，必好善，好善则善气临外，虽困必荣。恶则恶气外绕，虽荣
必败。人不知气数之理，乃天定气数，即善恶之气定数，并非别有数也。
孙东宿治周凤亭孙女，年六岁，忽发寒热，一日过后，腰脊中命门穴骨节肿一块，如大馒头之状，高三四寸，自此
不能平身而立，绝不能下地走动。如此者半年，人皆以为龟背痼疾莫能措治，即如幼科，将龟背古方治之，亦不效。孙
曰∶此非龟背，凡龟背在上，令在下部，必初年乳母放地，坐早之故。此时筋骨未坚，坐久而背曲，因受风邪初不觉，
其渐入骨节间，而生痰涎，致今骨节肿满而大。不急治之，必成痼疾。今起未久，可用万灵黑虎比天膏贴之，外再以晚
蚕沙醋洗炒熟，绢片包定于膏上，带定熨之，一夜一次。再以威灵仙为君，五加皮、乌药、红花、防风、独活，水煎服
之。一月而消其半，骨节柔软，不复肿硬，便能行走如初。后三月复不能行，问之，足膝酸软，载身不起，故不能行。
孙知其病去而下元虚也，用杜仲、晚蚕沙、五加皮、苡仁、当归、人参、牛膝、独活、苍耳、仙茅，水煎服二十剂，行
动如故。
又治查良本内眷，怒后偶食鱼头，骨梗于喉，即以馒头粽肉等压之，骨虽下，便觉胸膈不快，又服消骨药两日，迨
今乃七日矣。胸膈胀痛殊甚，饮食悉从背后而下，恶寒发热，六脉弦数。孙思骨梗之后，用硬物压之，伤其胃脘，必
有瘀血停蓄膈间，将食管逼在背后，故饮食觉从背后而下也。今但消去瘀血，使食管撤消，胸膈之痛可瘳矣。药以五
灵脂为君，山楂、元胡、桃仁、枳壳为臣，赤芍药、牡丹皮、香附、山栀仁为佐，柴胡、石菖蒲为使，水煎临服入韭
菜汁一酒杯饮之。其夜胸膈宽快，大便泻一次，痛减大半。饮食乃从右边而下，右边胸膈稍痛，吞物甚艰，痰出皆血腥
气。改以山栀、赤芍药、归尾、桃仁、刘寄奴、五灵脂、牡丹皮、穿山甲，煎入韭汁服之，两帖全瘳。
又治一妇右背盐匙骨边一点疼痛，夜尤其，医治半月不效，辗转加剧。即以右边手臂肢节皆胀痛。筋皆暴起，肌肉
上生红点，脉两手皆数，右尺软弱，乃湿热伤筋，而成痛痹。以东垣舒经汤为主，羌活、升麻、桃仁、麻黄、红花、
当归、防风、甘草、独活、猪苓、黄柏、防己、知母、黄连，两帖痛减肿消，再亦不发。
金少游治黄 之室，庚午秋，娩身后，腰胯痛，痛久，脊膂突出一骨一二寸许，腹下季胁，发一肿如拳大，每抽挈
亦痛，遍身如刀剐，不能行，不能转侧，每欲舒展，则妇女八人舁之。三吴医者莫不就诊无效。辛未秋延少游诊，其脉
无他，兼以饮食不废，谓之曰∶奇经八脉俱受病矣，幸十二正经无恙，中气不虚可疗。 问其故，答曰∶盖脊梁突督脉
也。季胁痈肿，腹与胃痛，卫任也。两足筋急不能屈伸，阳跷阴跷也。腰以下冷，溶溶如坐水中，带之为病也。初进龟
鹿二仙膏二三两，煎剂以骨碎补、续断为君，佐以温经大养气血之剂，四服即缓。继以鹿茸、河车、自然铜、骨碎补
等剂，丸服一半，即能下床行动，疗此症不过两月而愈。愈而妊，更属意外。其季胁近胯之瘤，为庸工决破而死，惜哉。
活水止虱丹
熟地黄 山萸肉（三两） 杜仲（一两） 防己（一钱） 草（三钱）
水煎服。
大承气汤
大黄 芒硝 浓朴 枳实
先煎朴实，将大黄煮二三沸，顷碗内和芒硝，服得利则止。
导赤散
生地 木通 甘草梢 淡竹叶等分煎
甘露饮
生地 熟地 天冬 麦冬 石斛 茵陈 黄芩 枳壳 枇杷叶 甘草等分
每服五钱。
舒筋汤
片姜黄（一钱） 甘草（炒） 羌活（各三分） 白术 海桐皮 赤芍 当归（各五分）
上水煎服。
龟鹿二仙膏
鹿角（十斤） 龟板（五斤） 枸杞（二斤） 人参（一斤）
先将鹿龟板锯截，刮净水浸，桑火熬炼成胶，再将人参、枸杞，熬膏和入。
生肌散（见头门）
龙胆丸（即龙胆泻肝汤，见溺孔门）
将上述药物分别研为细末，用水泛丸，大小如梧桐子。每次服用二百丸，空腹时用滚开水送服。
三黄丸
黄芩、黄连、大黄（各等分）
将上述药物分别研为细末，用米糊泛丸，大小如梧桐子。每次服用七八十丸，用白开水送服。
升麻葛根汤

麝香丸
川乌（大的三个，生用）、黑豆（二十一粒，生用）、全蝎（二十一个，生用）、地龙（五钱）
将上述药物研为细末，加入半字麝香，一同研磨均匀，用糯米糊制作成丸，大小如绿豆。每次服用七丸，病情严重者服用十丸。睡前令胃脘排空，用温酒送服，若全身微微出冷汗，病即可痊愈。此方凡是治疗历节风及痰痛不出者，服用一二剂即可痊愈。

《奇病方》记载：有人患背部脊柱裂开一道缝隙，爬出一千多只虱子，这是因为肾中有风邪，受阳气吹拂所致，不知不觉间皮肤破裂，虱子显现出来。立即服用活水止虱丹三剂，以减少缝隙中的虱子数量；再用蓖麻子三粒、红枣三枚，捣烂混合制成丸药，大小如弹丸，放在火上熏烤衣物，使残留的虱子全部死亡，而裂缝自然愈合。
蓖麻子能杀灭虱子、祛除风邪，所以使用它很适宜。
徐弦《稽神录》记载：浮梁县李生，肩部隆起如盂状，只有瘙痒难以忍受，人们都不认识这是什么病。医生秦德立说：这是虱瘤。用药敷贴后，一夜之间瘤破溃，流出虱子一斗多，当天身体变轻快，但小孔未闭合，因虱子不止而死。
《济生方》记载：有人患虚寒证，积滞癖块在背膜之外，流注于两胁，气逆喘急，日久则凝滞，溃烂成为痈疽，多导致无法救治。用胡椒三百五十粒、蝎尾四个、生木香二钱半研为细末，用粟米饭制作成丸，大小如绿豆。每次服用二十丸，用橘皮汤送服，名为磨积丸。
《袖珍方》记载：有人患背部与腿部之间一点疼痛，不可忍受，这是痰血阻滞。用芫花根研为细末，用米醋调匀敷贴患处。如果疼痛不止，用布带束紧患处，这种情况在妇女产后尤为多见。
朱丹溪治疗一名男子，忽然患背部肩胛缝处有一线疼痛向上延伸至肩部，跨过胸前侧胁向上，病痛昼夜不停，疼痛难以忍受，脉象弦而数。重按时豁大，左脉大于右脉。背部肩胛属小肠经。这必定是思虑过度损伤心脏，心脏本体未病，而腑脏小肠先病，所以从背部肩胛发起。又担心不能决断，病气又归并于胆经，所以疼痛至胸胁而止。这是小肠火邪乘袭肝木，子来乘母，属于实邪。询问病史，果真是因为谋事不成所致。用人参四分、木通二分，煎汤吞服龙胆丸，服用数剂后痊愈。
戴人治疗一名男子，六十多岁，患腰部、尻部、脊部、胯部皆痛，数年不愈。白天安静夜晚躁动，剧烈疼痛往来发作，多次想自杀，日夜疼痛发作，必须让人用手捶打，直到四五更鸡鸣时分才逐渐减轻，天亮时病停止。左右的人及患者都怀疑是鬼祟作怪，早晚祈祷祝告，如有僧道法师到来，则疼痛似乎减轻。又梦见鬼神战斗，山川神庙，无不祭祀，拖延岁月，肌肉消瘦皮肤干枯，饮食减少，暴怒日益增加，只等待一死。有个书生说：既然说是鬼祟病，这样祈祷祝告，为何没有一次灵验？听说陈郡有张戴人，精通医术，可以请他来治疗。其家人请来张戴人，诊察两手脉象，皆沉滞坚劲。说：病虽然消瘦难以进食，但腰部、尻部、脊部、胯部皆痛的，必定是大便坚硬。旁边的人说：有五七日，或八九日，排出燥粪一两块，如弹丸大，结硬得说不出话，曾让人挖去仅下一两块，浑身燥痒，皮肤皱缩揭起，枯涩如麸片。戴人既已得知病患的虚实情况，于是使用大承气汤，用生姜、大枣煎煮，加入牵牛头末二钱。不敢直言是泻下剂，因为病人听到温热的话就高兴，听到寒凉的话就恐惧，说到补益就顺从，说到泻下就忌讳，这种弊端不是一天了。何况一人传之，众人效尤呢。等到煎成，让病人稍热饮下，从少到多，服用三天，脏腑排泄四五次，约半碗，用灯照看，都是燥粪及瘀血混杂在一起，秽臭不可靠近，片刻之间疼痛减轻十分之九，昏睡呼吸调匀如常人。睡到第二天傍晚，才觉得饥饿索要粥喝，给予温凉的粥。又困睡一两天，病完全去除，随后令其饮食调养，每天服用导赤甘露滑利便溺的药物，四十多天痊愈。唉！世间流传的三十六虎书、三十六黄经，乃是小儿三十六吊（一种迷信疗法），是谁创始的呢？始作俑者，恐怕会断子绝孙吧？古人以医为重，所以医学之道得以推行。
今人以医为轻，所以医学之道废弃。学医者局限于技艺，病患者也不选择精粗。《灵枢经》说：刺法与发汗虽久，仍可拔除并雪耻；结聚与闭塞虽久，仍可解开并决断。腰脊胯痛者，属足太阳膀胱经。两胯，又是足少阳胆经所经过的地方。《难经》说：诸病为实。《内经》说：诸痛疡疮，皆属心火。注释说：心静则疼痛减轻，心躁则疼痛加剧，病见僧道法师到来，则病稍去者，是因为心静了，过一会儿又恢复原样。古人称痛随利减，不利则痛从何而去？所以凡是躁症，都属于三阳病。
〔沈源按〕心静则疼痛减轻，心躁则疼痛加剧，这都是气随心动道的道理。如僧道法师到来，而疼痛稍减者，就是所谓的心静。因为心静则气静，气静故感觉病减轻。不久心又躁动，气也不安宁，所以疼痛又恢复如旧。要知道人身最灵动的，是气。如思食思色，着哀着怒，没有不随心感发的。不但人身之中感发如此，即使子女能时常思念父母，也能与父母之气暗暗相感。虽远离也能相应，如曾子心痛，黔娄心惊，这就是气相应的缘故。若父母在世时及去世后，无时不念，则根本之气不绝，枝叶必茂盛，否则气已绝，怎能善后，即使善终也最终必败。孔子说：身体，是父母的枝条，敢不敬重吗？不能敬重自己的身体，就是伤害父母；伤害父母，就是伤害根本；伤害根本，枝条随之灭亡。所以人能敬重自己的身体，就是孝顺父母。孝顺父母的人，一定喜好善行，喜好善行则善气临身，虽困顿必荣耀。恶则恶气外绕，虽荣耀必败败。人不知气数之理，那是天定的气数，即善恶之气的定数，并非别有命数。
孙东宿治疗周凤亭的孙女，六岁，忽然发热恶寒，一日过后，腰部脊柱中的命门穴骨节肿起一块，如大馒头状，高三四寸，从此不能平身站立，绝对不能下地走动。如此半年，人们都认为是龟背痼疾，无法治疗，即使是儿科，用治龟背的古方治疗，也不见效。孙医生说：这不是龟背。凡龟背在上部，现在在下部，必定是初年乳母放孩子在地上，坐得太早的缘故。此时筋骨未坚，久坐导致背曲，因受风邪起初不觉，渐渐侵入骨节间，而生痰涎，导致至今骨节肿满变大。不及时治疗，必成痼疾。现在发病不久，可用万灵黑虎比天膏贴敷，外面再用晚蚕沙醋洗炒熟，绢片包定在膏上，绑紧熨烫，一夜一次。再以威灵仙为主药，配伍五加皮、乌药、红花、防风、独活，水煎服用。一个月消除了一半，骨节柔软，不再肿硬，便能行走如初。后来三个月又不能再走，问其原因，足膝酸软，承载不起身体，所以不能行走。孙医生知道病邪已去而下元虚损，用杜仲、晚蚕沙、五加皮、苡仁、当归、人参、牛膝、独活、苍耳、仙茅，水煎服用二十剂，行动如故。
又治疗查良本的家属，发怒后偶然吃了鱼头，鱼骨卡在喉咙里，就用馒头粽肉等压下去，骨头虽下去了，便觉得胸膈不快，又服用消骨药两天，到现在已经七天了。胸膈胀痛非常严重，饮食全都从背后往下走，恶寒发热，六脉弦数。孙医生认为鱼骨梗之后，用硬物压迫，损伤了胃脘，必有瘀血停蓄在膈间，将食管逼向背后，所以饮食感觉从背后往下走。现在只需消除瘀血，使食管复位，胸膈的疼痛就可以治愈了。药用五灵脂为主药，山楂、元胡、桃仁、枳壳为辅药，赤芍药、牡丹皮、香附、山栀仁为佐药，柴胡、石菖蒲为使药，水煎临服时加入韭菜汁一杯饮用。当晚胸膈宽快，大便泻一次，疼痛减轻大半。饮食乃从右边往下走，右边胸膈稍痛，吞咽食物很艰难，痰出都有血腥气。改用药方：山栀、赤芍药、归尾、桃仁、刘寄奴、五灵脂、牡丹皮、穿山甲，煎入韭汁服用，两帖全愈。
又治疗一名妇女，右背盐匙骨边一点疼痛，夜间尤其严重，医治半月无效，辗转加剧。随即右边手臂肢节皆胀痛。筋皆暴起，肌肉上生红点，两手脉皆数，右尺脉软弱，这是湿热伤筋，而成痛痹。以东垣舒经汤为主方，加羌活、升麻、桃仁、麻黄、红花、当归、防风、甘草、独活、猪苓、黄柏、防己、知母、黄连，两帖疼痛减轻肿胀消退，再也没复发。
金少游治疗黄氏之妻，庚午年秋天，分娩后，腰胯痛，痛久，脊柱突出一骨一二寸许，腹部下方季胁，发一肿如拳大，每次牵拉也痛，遍身如刀割，不能行走，不能转侧，每次想要舒展，则需要八个妇女抬着她。三吴地区的医生无不就诊无效。辛未年秋天请金少游诊治，脉象无其他异常，兼以饮食未废，对她说：奇经八脉都受病了，幸好十二正经无恙，中气不虚，可以治疗。问其原因，回答说：脊梁突出是督脉病。季胁痈肿，腹与胃痛，是任脉病。两足筋急不能屈伸，是阳跷阴跷脉病。腰以下冷，溶溶如坐水中，是带脉病。初进龟鹿二仙膏二三两，煎剂以骨碎补、续断为主药，佐以温经大养气血之剂，四服即缓解。继以鹿茸、河车、自然铜、骨碎补等剂，丸服一半，即能下床行动，治疗此症不过两个月而愈。愈后又怀孕，更是意外。其季胁近胯之瘤，被庸医切开破溃而死，可惜啊。
活水止虱丹
熟地黄、山萸肉（三两）、杜仲（一两）、防己（一钱）、草（三钱）
水煎服用。
大承气汤
大黄、芒硝、浓朴、枳实
先煎厚朴、枳实，待大黄煮二三沸，顷碗内和入芒硝，服药得利则停服。
甘露饮
生地、熟地、天冬、麦冬、石斛、茵陈、黄芩、枳壳、枇杷叶、甘草等分
每次服用五钱。
舒筋汤

龟鹿二仙膏

*Scutellariae Radix* (Huangqin), *Coptidis Rhizoma* (Huanglian), *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma* (Dahuang) (equal parts)
Grind the aforementioned medicines separately into fine powder, make pills with rice paste, sized like *Cocculus trilobus* seeds. Take 70–80 pills each time, swallowed with plain warm water.
Shengma Gegen Tang (Ligusticum and Kudzu Decoction)
*Rhizoma Cimicifugae* (Shengma) (3 qian), *Puerariae Lobatae Radix* (Gegen), *Radix Paealbiae Alba* (Shaoyao) (2 qian), *Radix Glycyrrhizae* (Gancao) (1 qian)

Grind the aforementioned medicines into fine powder, add half a *zi* of *Moschus* (Shexiang), grind together uniformly, make pills with glutinous rice paste, sized like mung beans. Take 7 pills each time, or 10 pills for severe cases. Let the epigastrium be empty before sleep, swallow with warm wine. If the whole body sweats slightly cold sweat, the disease will recover. This prescription is effective for *Lijie Feng* (painful joint syndrome) and phlegm-pain that does not discharge, recovering after one or two doses.
Shengma Tang (Ligusticum Decoction)

*Qibing Fang* records: A person suffered from a split in the back spine, from which over a thousand lice emerged. This was due to wind pathogen in the Kidney, blown by Yang Qi, causing unnoticed skin rupture and lice appearance. Immediately take Huoshuo Zhishi Dan (Living Water Lice-Extinguishing Pill) for three doses to reduce the number of lice in the split; then take 3 *Ricini Semen* (Bimazi) and 3 *Ziziphi Jujubae Fructus* (Hongzao), mash and mix into pills sized like bullet seeds, smoke clothes over fire to kill remaining lice, and the split will heal naturally.
*Ricini Semen* can kill lice and dispel wind, so its use is appropriate.
Xu Xian's *Jishen Lu* records: Li Sheng from Fuliang County had a shoulder swelling like a basin, only itchy and unbearable, unrecognized by others. Physician Qin Deli said: This is a louse tumor. Apply medicine externally; overnight the tumor ruptured, discharging over a dou of lice. The body felt light that day, but because the small pores did not close and lice continued to emerge, he died.
*Jisheng Fang* records: A person suffered from deficiency-cold, with accumulated masses outside the back membrane, flowing to both hypochondria, causing rebellious Qi, panting, and urgency. Over time, stagnation occurred, ulcerating into carbuncles and sores, often leading to untreatable conditions. Use 350 grains of *Piperis Longi Fructus* (Hujiao), 4 scorpion tails, and 2.5 qian raw *Costi Radix* (Muxiang), grind into powder, make pills with millet rice, sized like mung beans. Take 20 pills each time, swallowed with tangerine peel decoction, named Moji Wan.
*Xiu Zhen Fang* records: A person suffered from a single point of pain between the back and legs, unbearable. This is phlegm-blood stasis. Grind *Genkwa Flos* (Yanhua) root into powder, mix with rice vinegar and apply. If pain persists, bind with cloth. This is common in postpartum women.
Zhu Danxi treated a man who suddenly suffered from a line of pain starting from the back scapula seam, extending up to the shoulder, crossing the front chest side rib upwards. The pain did not cease day or night, unbearable. Pulse was wiry and rapid. Pressed heavily, it was expansive, left larger than right. The back scapula belongs to the Small Intestine Meridian. This must be excessive thinking damaging the Heart. The Heart organ itself was not diseased, but the Fu organ Small Intestine was diseased first, hence starting from the back scapula. Worrying about indecision, the pathogen returned to the Gallbladder, hence pain stopping at the chest and hypochondria. This is Small Intestine Fire attacking Liver Wood, child attacking mother, constituting excess pathogen. Inquiry confirmed it was caused by failed plans. Use 4 fen *Ginseng Radix* (Renshen) and 2 fen *Akebiae Caulis* (Mutong), decoct in water to swallow Longdan Wan, recovered after several doses.
Dairen treated a man over sixty years old, suffering from pain in the waist, sacrum, spine, and hips for several years without cure. Quiet during the day, restless at night, severe pain coming and going, repeatedly attempting suicide. Pain arose day and night, requiring someone to beat him with hands until the fourth or fifth watch when roosters crowed, then gradually decreased, stopping at dawn. Relatives and patient suspected demon possession, praying morning and evening. When monks or Daoists arrived, pain seemed to decrease. Dreamt of ghost wars, mountain rivers, temple gods, sacrificing to all. Dragged on for years, muscles wasted, skin dry, food intake reduced, rage increased daily, awaiting death. A scholar said: If it is demon possession, why no response to prayers? Heard Zhang Dairen in Chen Commandery is skilled in medicine, please invite him. Family invited Zhang Dairen, diagnosed both hands, pulse deep, stagnant, firm, and tough. Said: Although emaciated and difficult to eat, pain in waist, sacrum, spine, and hips indicates hard stool. Relatives said: Every five to seven days, or eight to nine days, excreted one or two pieces of dry stool, like bullet seeds, extremely hard, required digging out, only one or two pieces came out. Whole body itchy, skin wrinkled and peeling, dry as bran flakes. Having learned the deficiency-excess status, Dairen used Dachengqi Tang, decocted with ginger and jujube, added 2 qian *Semen Kochiae* (Qianniou) head powder. Dare not call it a purgative, as the patient pleased by warmth feared cold, agreed with tonification but rejected purgation. This bias existed for days. Moreover, one person spreads it, many follow. When decocted, let drink slightly warm, from less to more. After three days, bowels discharged four or five times, about half a bowl. Viewed by lamp, all dry stool and blood stasis mixed, foul odor. In moments, pain reduced by nine-tenths, fell into coma-like sleep, breathing regular as normal. Slept until next day evening, felt hungry asking for porridge, given warm-cool porridge. Slept again for one or two days, illness completely gone. Then instructed diet regulation, daily taking Daodi Ganlu slippery urination medicine, recovered after forty-plus days. Alas! Worldly circulated Thirty-Six Tiger Books, Thirty-Six Yellow Scriptures, are actually pediatric Thirty-Six Hanging吊s, who started this? The originator may have no descendants. Ancients valued medicine, thus medical way propagated.
Modern people轻视 medicine, thus medical way abandoned. Learners limited to techniques, patients do not choose refined or coarse. *Ling Shu Jing* says: Acupuncture and sweating, though long, can still be extracted and cleared; knots and blockages, though long, can still be resolved and decided. Waist, spine, hip pain belongs to Foot Taiyang Bladder Meridian. Both hips are passed by Foot Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian. *Nan Jing* says: All diseases are excess. *Nei Jing* says: All pain, ulcers, and sores belong to Heart Fire. Annotation says: Heart quiet then pain reduces, Heart restless then pain increases. Disease seeing monks/Daoists arrive, pain slightly goes away, is because Heart is quiet, soon returns. Ancients called pain reduces with benefit, without benefit how does pain go? Thus all restless syndromes belong to Three Yang diseases.
[Source Note] Heart quiet then pain reduces, Heart restless then pain increases, this is the way Qi follows Heart movement. Like monks/Daoists arriving, pain slightly reducing, is called Heart quiet. Because Heart quiet then Qi calm, Qi calm thus disease feels reduced. Soon Heart restless again, Qi also unsettled, thus pain returns as before. Know that the most spiritual in human body is Qi. Like desiring food/desiring sex, attaching to grief/anger, none do not move with Heart sensation. Not only within human body sensations are like this, even children thinking of parents can secretly sense parents' Qi. Though far apart can correspond, like Zengzi heart pain, Qianlou heart startle, this is Qi correspondence. If parents alive and after death, always thinking, then root Qi never cuts off, branches must flourish, otherwise Qi cut off, how can manage aftermath, even if good ending ultimately fails. Confucius said: Body is parent's branch, dare not respect? Cannot respect own body, is hurting parent; hurting parent, is hurting root; hurting root, branches follow to perish. So person respecting own body, is filial to parent. Filial to parent, must love goodness, loving goodness then good Qi approaches, though distressed must glory. Evil then evil Qi surrounds, though glorious must fail. People do not know Qi destiny principle, that is Heaven-determined Qi destiny, i.e., good/evil Qi fixed numbers, not having other numbers.
Sun Dongsu treated Zhou Fengting's granddaughter, six years old, suddenly fever and chills. After one day, Mingmen acupoint bone joint in waist spine swelled a lump, like big steamed bun, high three or four cun, since then cannot stand upright, absolutely cannot walk on ground. Like this for half a year, people thought it was tortoise-back incurable disease, unable to treat, even pediatricians using ancient tortoise-back prescriptions ineffective. Sun said: This is not tortoise-back. Tortoise-back is upper part, now lower part, must be early years wet nurse put on ground, sat too early. At this time bones/tendons not firm, sat long back curved, due to wind pathogen initially unaware, gradually entering bone joints, generating phlegm-fluid, causing now bone joints swollen full and large. Not treating urgently, must become incurable disease. Now onset not long, can use Wanling Heihu Bitian Gao (Ten-Thousand Spirit Black Tiger Sky-Comparing Ointment) to paste, externally use late silkworm sand washed with vinegar, stir-fried cooked, silk piece wrapped fixed on ointment, bind tight and iron, once per night. Then use *Spiraea Japonicae Herba* (Weilingxian) as chief, *Eucommiae Cortex* (Wujiapi), *Linderæ Fructus* (Wuyao), *Carthami Flos* (Honghua), *Saposhnikoviae Radix* (Fangfeng), *Angelicae Pubescentis Radix* (Duohuo), decoct with water and take. One month eliminated half, bone joints soft, no longer swollen hard, able to walk as before. Later three months could not walk again, asked, foot/knees sore weak, carrying body not rising, thus cannot walk. Sun knew pathogen gone but lower Yuan deficient, used *Eucommiae Cortex* (Duzhong), late silkworm sand, *Eucommiae Cortex* (Wujiapi), *Coicis Semen* (Yiren), *Angelicae Sinensis Radix* (Danggui), *Ginseng Radix* (Renshen), *Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix* (Niuxi), *Angelicae Pubescentis Radix* (Duohuo), *Xanthium Fructus* (Canger), *Curculiginis Rhizoma* (Xianmao), decoct with water and take twenty doses, action as before.
Also treated Zha Liangben's female relative, after anger accidentally ate fish head, bone stuck in throat, immediately pressed with mantou/zongzi meat etc., bone although went down, felt chest/diaphragm uncomfortable, took bone-dissolving medicine two days, until now seven days. Chest/diaphragm distending pain very severe, food/drink all go down from behind back, aversion to cold fever, six pulses wiry rapid. Sun thought after bone stuck, used hard object pressing, damaged stomach region, must have blood stasis accumulating in diaphragm, forcing esophagus to back, thus food/drink feel going down from back. Now just eliminate blood stasis, make esophagus retract, chest/diaphragm pain can heal. Medicine uses *Trogopterori Faeces* (Wulingzhi) as chief, *Crataegi Fructus* (Shanzha), *Corydalis Rhizoma* (Yuanhu), *Persicae Semen* (Taoren), *Aurantii Fructus Immaturus* (Zhiqiao) as deputy, *Radix Paealbiae Rubra* (Chishaoyao), *Moutan Cortex* (Mudanpi), *Cyperi Rhizoma* (Xiangfu), *Gardeniae Fructus* (Shanzhiren) as assistant, *Bupleuri Radix* (Chaihu), *Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma* (Shichangpu) as envoy, decoct with water, before taking add leek juice one wine cup to drink. That night chest/diaphragm wide comfortable, bowel movement once, pain reduced more than half. Food/drink then went down from right side, right chest/diaphragm slightly painful, swallowing very difficult, phlegm out all bloody smell. Changed to *Gardeniae Fructus* (Shanzhi), *Radix Paealbiae Rubra* (Chishaoyao), *Angelicae Sinensis Radix Cauda* (Guiwei), *Persicae Semen* (Taoren), *Lysimachiae Herba* (Liujinu), *Trogopterori Faeces* (Wulingzhi), *Moutan Cortex* (Mudanpi), *Manis Squama* (Chuanshanjia), decoct adding leek juice to take, two prescriptions fully healed.
Also treated a woman, right back salt-spoon bone edge one point pain, night especially severe, treated half month ineffective, rolling worsened. Immediately right arm limb joints all distending pain. Tendons all bulging, muscle surface grew red spots, pulses both hands all rapid, right Chi weak soft, this is damp-heat injuring tendons, becoming painful obstruction. With Dongyuan Shujing Tang as main, *Curcumae Radix* (Qianghuo), *Rhizoma Cimicifugae* (Shengma), *Persicae Semen* (Taoren), *Ephedrae Herba* (Mahuang), *Carthami Flos* (Honghua), *Angelicae Sinensis Radix* (Danggui), *Saposhnikoviae Radix* (Fangfeng), *Radix Glycyrrhizae* (Gancao), *Angelicae Pubescentis Radix* (Duohuo), *Polyporus* (Zhuling), *Phellodendri Cortex* (Huangbai), *Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix* (Fangji), *Anemarrhenae Rhizoma* (Zhimu), *Coptidis Rhizoma* (Huanglian), two prescriptions pain reduced swelling eliminated, never recurred.
Jin Shaoyou treated Huang family's wife, Gengwu autumn, after childbirth, waist/hip pain, pain long, spine protruding one bone one or two cun, abdomen below hypochondria, developed one swelling like fist size, every pulling also painful, whole body like knife scraping, cannot walk, cannot turn side, every wanting to stretch, then eight women carry her. Sanwu doctors all consulted ineffective. Xinwei autumn invited Shaoyou to diagnose, pulse no other abnormality, plus diet not abolished, told her: Eight Extraordinary Vessels all diseased, fortunately Twelve Regular Vessels safe, middle Qi not deficient, can treat. Asked reason, answered: Spine protrusion is Du Mai disease. Hypochondria carbuncle swelling, abdomen and stomach pain, is Ren Mai disease. Two feet tendons urgent cannot flex/extend, is Yang Qiao Yin Qiao disease. Waist below cold, dissolving like sitting in water, Dai Mai disease. Initially entered Guilu Erxian Gao (Turtle-Deer Two Immortals Paste) two or three liang, decoction with *Drynariae Rhizoma* (Gusuibu), *Dipsaci Radix* (Xuduan) as chief, assisted with warming meridians greatly nourishing Qi-blood agents, four doses then relaxed. Subsequently with *Cervi Cornu Degelatinatum* (Lurong), *Placentae Humanae* (Heche), *Naturalis Chrysolithus* (Zirantong), *Drynariae Rhizoma* (Gusuibu) etc. agents, pill taken half, then able to get bed walk, treating this symptom not over two months healed. Healed then pregnant, more unexpected. Her hypochondria near hip tumor, by mediocre doctor pierced broken then died, pity.
