Answer: There are four types of "fan" (restlessness/irritability). There is heart fan, chest fan, deficiency fan, and zi fan (pregnancy-related restlessness). All such conditions belong to heat syndromes. If the zang organs are deficient and heat qi attacks the heart, it causes heart fan; if it presents only with restlessness and heat without other symptoms, it is called deficiency fan. If there is accumulated phlegm-fluid causing vomiting of saliva, it is called chest fan. If blood-fluid stagnates and combats with deficiency heat, causing restlessness during pregnancy, it is called zi fan.

Answer: The Lung governs qi and connects externally with the skin and hair. Wind-cold invading from outside penetrates the Lung, thus causing cough. Cough with saliva is called sou (phlegm-cough); cough without phlegm is called ke (dry cough). The qi of the five zang and six fu organs is derived from the Lung. Each organ contracts cold pathogens at its respective season to become diseased. In autumn, the Lung is affected; in winter, the Kidney; in spring, the Liver; in summer, the Heart; in late summer (the period between summer and autumn), the Spleen. If the disease persists in one zang, it transmits to the fu organs. Cough occurring during pregnancy is called zi ke (pregnancy-related cough). If prolonged and unresolved, it will damage the fetus.
