Cinnamon Twig (Rougui, 1.5 liang), Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai, 3 liang), Anemarrhenae Rhizoma (Zhimu, 2 liang). Grind together into powder and make into pills.
Physical overexertion or excessive consumption of fried and roasted foods may cause blood in the urine. The Bladder should be cleared [of heat].
([Wu's Note]: Blood in the urine accompanied by frequency, urgency, and pain is termed Bloody Lin Syndrome (Xuelin). Clear urine with blood but no pain indicates Deficient Fire.)
Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, 2 qian), White Peony Root (Baishao), Bupleuri Radix (Chaihu, each 1 qian), Poria (Fuling), Moutan Cortex (Danpi), Gardeniae Fructus (Shanzhi, each 7 fen), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu, 1.5 qian), Prepared Licorice Root (Zhigancao, 4 fen).
Enuresis during pregnancy can be distinguished as either Deficiency or Heat patterns. Physicians must examine the etiology. If there is heat in the Paohuang (Bladder/Uterus), use Jiawei Xiaoyao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder). If it is Spleen and Lung Qi Deficiency, use Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) with added Yi Zhi Ren (Alpinia Oxyphylla Fruit). If it is Liver and Kidney Yin Deficiency, Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) is appropriate.
For enuresis during pregnancy:
Baiwei (Cynanchum Atratum Root), Baishao (White Peony Root) in equal parts. Grind into powder and take with rice water on an empty stomach.
For enuresis occurring without awareness:
Sangpiaoxiao (Mantis Egg Case, 7 pieces). Stir-fry until yellow, grind into fine powder. Take 2 qian with rice water on an empty stomach.
After the sixth month of pregnancy, if the woman feels a sensation of fetal descent and experiences unilateral urinary retention, the causes may include Fire, Qi Deficiency, Phlegm Stagnation, or Blood Deficiency. If both Cun pulses are wiry and rapid, or both Chi pulses are wiry and forceful, accompanied by dry mouth and irritability (Heat symptoms), it belongs to the Heat pattern. Use Dongkuizi (Abelmoschus Manihot Seed), Huashi (Talcum), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), Tiaoqin (Scutellariae Radix), and Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) to clear the heat. Externally, grind Dongkuizi, Huashi, and Zhizi into powder, mix with paste made from fresh snails or raw green onion, and apply to the umbilicus for immediate relief.
([Wu's Note]: This is like a teapot; if filled too full, pouring is difficult. Removing the lid allows flow, illustrating this principle.)
If the three positions (Cun, Guan, Chi) are weak and powerless, or the Qi Kou pulse is large and deficient, accompanied by fatigue and poor appetite, it belongs to Qi Deficiency. Use Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) followed by induced vomiting to lift the sinking Qi.
If the Left pulse is insufficient, or choppy and rapid, accompanied by night fever, irritability, or constipation, it belongs to Blood Deficiency. Use Siwu Tang (Four Substance Decoction) with Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), and Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), taken with Heyuan San (Benefit the Origin Powder).
