[Bao] For women in their childhood, before the onset of Tian Gui (menstrual fluid), diseases generally belong to the Shaoyin channel. After Tian Gui has begun to flow, diseases generally belong to the Jueyin channel. When Tian Gui is exhausted and ceases, diseases then belong to the Taiyin channel. Treating pregnancy and postpartum diseases from the perspective of the Jueyin channel is because it is the source of the generation and transformation of ancestral Qi. The Jueyin channel and the Shaoyang channel are exteriorly-interiorly related; therefore, treatment methods must not violate Stomach Qi and the Upper and Middle Jiao. These constitute the "Three Prohibitions": no sweating, no purgation, and no promoting urination. If sweating is induced, it resembles the adverse condition of premature purgation in Cold Damage syndrome. Promoting bowel movements causes rapid pulse and disturbs the Spleen. Promoting urination leads to the loss of body fluids and dryness in the Stomach. The principle of preparing medicine is that if these three prohibitions are not violated, Ying and Wei will naturally harmonize, and chills and fever will cease. Externally harmonizing Ying and Wei internally regulates clear turbidity and bowel/bladder functions. This method should be used as initial treatment, followed by detailed discussion. Observing symptoms requires careful consideration, treating them similarly to adverse conditions of Cold Damage with a缓 (gentle/moderate) approach. Symptoms may include difficulty urinating, constipation, accumulated heat between the intestines and stomach, development of flaccidity syndromes, or edema caused by scattered blood and Qi. Since obstetric pathology is diverse, it is said to resemble adverse conditions of Cold Damage. For example, use Baihu Tang for thirst, Renshen (Ginseng) for Qi deficiency, Danggui (Angelica Sinensis) for stabbing blood pain, and Shaoyao (Peony) for abdominal pain. These examples do not violate the three prohibitions and refer to chronic postpartum diseases. However, acute postpartum illnesses should not be constrained by this rule. For instance, in cases of Heat entering the Blood Chamber after childbirth, use Taoren Chengqi Tang or Didang Tang. In cases of hard and dry Stomach, Dachenqi Tang is used; it cannot simply be discussed as a purgative. Postpartum patients often use Wuji Tang or Siwu Tang without distinguishing the cold-heat of the four seasons or the deficiency-excess of blood and Qi, blindly administering medication uniformly, which exacerbates the condition—this is an error. Generally, for postpartum diseases involving epidemic pathogens, modify Chaihu formulas; for miscellaneous diseases, modify Siwu Tang. Spring and summer favor Chaihu formulas, while autumn and winter favor Siwu Tang. The cold-heat nature of drugs and the deficiency-excess of symptoms must be carefully examined. Siwu Tang is suitable for regular consumption. The following are methods for seasonal modification.
[Nourishing Blood]

Shudihuang (Prepared Rehmannia Root): Nourishes blood. Essential for eliminating pain below the umbilicus; it enters the Kidney channel.
