Warm the deficiency; for those who are deficient, warm them. The *Jingui Yaolue* (Essential Prescriptions of the Golden Cabinet) states: "A normal person with a large pulse is suffering from exhaustion/labor (Lao); treat it with Huangqi Jianzhong Tang." A woman suffered from heat and pain in her heels upon exertion; this was due to blood deficiency in the Three Yin meridians of the foot (Liver, Spleen, Kidney), and she recovered using Shengyu Tang. Later, she experienced generalized pruritus. Having mistakenly taken wind-dispelling herbs, she developed fever and convulsions, with a surging and rapid Liver pulse. This indicated that Liver blood deficiency with excessive fire generated internal wind. She was treated with pills made of Tianzhu Huang (Calamus/Tianzhu Huang) and Danning Xing (Arisaema cum Bile), administered with a decoction of Siwu Tang, Maidong, Wuweizi, Huangqin, Huanglian, Zhi Gancao, Zhizi, and Chaihu, and she recovered. Another woman, accustomed to a frugal life and diligent in needlework, contracted wind pathogen. Self-medicating with diaphoretic agents, she instead developed morning chills and evening fevers, spontaneous sweating, and night sweats, with severe depletion of form and Qi. Her pulse was sometimes floating and surging, sometimes faint and fine; her complexion was sometimes bluish-white, sometimes sallow and withered. This indicated that although the pathogen had departed, Qi and Blood were further depleted. She improved gradually after taking Shiquan Dabu Tang for over thirty doses, and subsequently treated with Jiawei Xiaoyao San, recovering fully after half a year.

If one feels coldness in the viscera, take Bawei Wan first in the morning. Do not assume Dihuang is too cold and damaging to the Spleen; generally, Yin deficiency causes fever. Dihuang greatly tonifies Yin and benefits Yin-blood to reduce fever. Xue Ji stated: The previous formula is an excellent remedy for Liver-Spleen blood-deficiency fever, internal heat, afternoon tidal fever, night sweats with thirst, fatigue, bone and tendon pain, tendon spasm, blood-deficiency restlessness, and phlegm-cough due to deficient heat. If phlegm is generated due to dryness-heat of Liver-Spleen-Kidney essence and blood, accompanied by chest/epigastric fullness, wheezing/cough with thirst, and all types of deficient fire syndromes, Liuwei Wan must be used as the primary treatment.
