Wuyao (Linderae Radix), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) (stir-fried), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (stir-fried), Liangjiang (Alpiniae Officinarum Rhizoma) (stir-fried), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Ezhu (Curcumae Rhizoma) (reduce dose by half during pregnancy).
Grind all ingredients into fine powder in equal parts. Take 2 qian each time, mixed with warm wine.
Treats coldness of the zang organs, continuous diarrhea, ineffective after taking other medicines. (Can also treat men.)
Roudoukou (Myristicae Semen) (wrapped in flour and roasted until fragrant).
Take an appropriate amount, grind into fine powder, add aged rice, mash with plain water to form pills the size of mung beans. Swallow 100 pills on an empty stomach with cooked millet drink. My family has used this medicine to save people for generations, and it is effective.
Treats spleen and stomach injured by cold between autumn and summer, indistinguishable water and grain, continuous diarrhea. Use Weiling San (Stomach-Calm Powder). (Also treats men.)
Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria) and Pingwei San (Calm-the-Stomach Powder). (Both seen in *Ju Fang*).
Combine the above two formulas, decoct with ginger and jujube, take on an empty stomach for best results. (Formula from Chen Rihua.)
Treats chronic diarrhea that does not stop, ineffective after taking other medicines. I have tested it myself, and it is effective.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Roudoukou (Myristicae Semen), Jiangjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (each 1 liang), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Hezi (Terminalia Chebulae Fructus), Beihuixiang (Foeniculi Fructus) (each 0.5 liang).
Grind all into fine powder. Take 3 qian each time. Decoct with one small cup of water, three slices of ginger, and one jujube until reduced to 60%, then take. (Formula from Shi Daoren.)
Treats extreme coldness of the zang and fu organs and exhaustion from long-term cold injury, mouth ulcers, diarrhea, undigested food, loss of taste in food, emaciation, irritability, postpartum deficiency-cold diarrhea in women, and all types of watery diarrhea and cold dysentery.
Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Poguzhi (Psoraleae Fructus) (stir-fried, each 1 liang), Liangjiang (Alpiniae Officinarum Rhizoma), Suosharen (Amomi Fructus Rotundus), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) (processed, each 3 fen), Chi Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Juhong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (each 0.5 liang), Hujiao (Piperis Longi Fructus), Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus) (soaked in water seven times, each 1 fen), Roudoukou (Myristicae Semen) (four pieces), Binglang (Arecae Semen) (one piece).
Grind all into powder. Take 3 qian each time. Take about 4 liang of pig liver that has not been exposed to menstrual blood, remove fascia, slice thinly, layer with the medicine in a vessel. Add one bowl of fermented rice water (Jiangshui) and a tea-footful of vinegar, cover tightly. Boil the liver until cooked, add 1 qian salt, three stalks of scallion white cut finely; ginger the size of a bullet crushed, boil together. When the water is nearly gone, this constitutes one dose. Eat it cold. Mild diarrhea upon the first dose is acceptable, as it expels cold qi, and will stop shortly. For chronic cold dysentery or slippery diarrhea, only one dose is needed. Drink porridge soup when thirsty; avoid raw, cold, and greasy foods. If unable to eat cold food, add a little Jiangshui and serve warm. Doctor Xie from Jiaxing obtained this formula but disliked its complexity, so he simply boiled pig liver in Jiangshui, made pills the size of paulownia seeds, and took 50 pills with porridge drink; the effect was similar. For acute diarrhea and dysentery, only one dose is needed. However, it does not treat heat dysentery or heat diarrhea.
Zhao Fu Fu was a servant from Wuzhou. His wife suffered from continuous diarrhea. Medicines such as Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Hezi (Terminalia Chebulae Fructus), Roudoukou (Myristicae Semen), Longgu (Fossilia Os Mastodi et Ossis Femoris), and various Dan pills were all ineffective. I was summoned to diagnose her pulse and found the Liver and Kidney pulses weak, indicating Liver and Kidney deficiency. The servant asked: "Which meridian does this theory belong to?" I said: "All previous discussions on diarrhea and dysentery attribute them to Spleen and Stomach diseases, stating that wind-cold, damp-toxin invasion, and dietary stagnation cause diarrhea when the intestines are deficient. They do not realize that Qi deficiency of the Liver and Kidneys can also cause diarrhea and dysentery. Ancient texts state this clearly, and it must be distinguished. The *Classic* says: 'Diarrhea and dysentery that do not stop from front to back are due to Kidney deficiency.' It also says: 'All厥逆, retention, or discharge belong to the Lower Jiao.' The Lower Jiao refers to the Qi of the Liver and Kidneys. The constriction of the gateways is governed by Liver Qi; the guarding and controlling below is governed by Kidney Qi. When Liver Qi rebels and moves upward, the Lower Jiao cannot secure and control, leading to diarrhea and dysentery. The Kidney is the gate of the Stomach; if the gateway is not secured, the granaries cannot store. If the source of diarrhea and dysentery lies here, treating it solely with Spleen and Stomach medicines would be a mistake of a thousand miles." Thus, she took Muxiang San (Aucklandia Powder), recovered after several doses.
