Stems and leaves of *Cephalopterus* (Xiaoji) (washed, cut, ground, juice extracted as one *zhan*), Juice of fresh *Rehmanniae Radix* (Sheng Dihuang Zhi) (one *zhan*), *Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma* (Baizhu) (half *liang*, sliced).
The above three ingredients are added with one *zhan* of water, decocted until half remains, the dregs are removed, and it is taken warm.
*Piperis Fructus* (Hujiao), *Santalum Album Lignum* (Zitan), *Curcumae Aromatica Rhizoma* (Yujin), *Rubiae Cordifoliae Radix et Rhizoma* (Qian Gen), Xiao Pi (which is the bark of *Punica granatum*).
All in equal parts, ground into fine powder, pills made like wutong seeds using water-drop method. Take two pills dissolved in *Colla Corii Asini* Decoction (Ejiao Tang).
Treating sudden severe metrorrhagia (Chen Zongling's Formula).
*Rhodae Radix* (Chishaoyao), *Cyperi Rhizoma* (Xiangfuzi), Lotus Leaf (He Ye, dried), Human Hair (Nan Zi Fa, washed with *Gleditsiae Sinensis* Fruit water), *Angelicae Sinensis Radix* (Danggui), Palm Fiber (Zonglv, charred), Black Gaiter Hat (Wushamao, specifically a lacquered gauze headscarf, used to invoke ascending yang qi).
All in equal parts, except for palm fiber, the rest are cut into coarse slices, charred on new tiles retaining 30% of their original nature, then ground into fine powder. Each dose is 3-5 *qian*, taken on an empty stomach mixed with urine from an uncircumcised boy. If after walking ten *li*, take another dose; no more than 7-8 doses will stop the bleeding. If due to postpartum blood loss, add rice vinegar, Jingmo (Beijing ink stick), and a little *Moschus* (Shexiang). My relative Huang Shouzhengqing served at the Heji Bureau; his wife, Lady Ling, suddenly suffered from this illness, critically ill, with all medicines ineffective. Accidentally obtaining this formula, she recovered immediately.
Zhang Shengdao said: Generally, treat metrorrhagia first with this formula. It is like treating dysentery; if accumulation is not removed first, merely taking astringent drugs stops it temporarily, but over time the toxic pathogen goes deeper, even becoming critical. Metrorrhagia is caused by meridian disorder, blood not following its normal course, overflowing and acting recklessly. If not stopped in one or two days, coagulated stasis forms nests; further astringing with medicine exacerbates the condition. One should first use Wuji San (Five Accumulations Powder) decocted with vinegar, taking one or two doses, then follow with Lingzhi San (Trogopterori Faeces Powder) and Qi-regulating drugs to remove the old and generate the new, naturally achieving cure. This is a very appropriate statement.
Treating women's mountain-like metrorrhagia, and men's spleen accumulation qi. Zhang said: Excellent for cases where various medicines cannot stop metrorrhagia. Use good Trogopterori Faeces (Wulingzhi), stir-fry until smoke ceases, grind to powder. Each dose is one *qian*, taken with warm wine. This medicine also detoxifies poisons and snake, scorpion, centipede bites; applying to the wound heals immediately.
Another prescription: Each dose is three *qian*. Water, wine, and urine from an uncircumcised boy, each half *zhan*, decocted to eight-tenths, taken orally, named Choudao San (Knife-Pulling Powder). Treats postpartum illness, taking three doses dissipates evil blood. Or for unbearable pain in heart, abdomen, hypochondrium, or legs, or simply using urine from an uncircumcised boy is especially good. Or for wind-stroke, add half *qian* of *Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix* (Caowutou), decoct together; this is County Magistrate Deng's formula. Zhang said: Also treats intestinal wind bleeding. For those who cannot drink alcohol, decoct *Mume Fructus* (Wumei) and *Platycladi Cacumen* (Baiye) soup to mix with the powder. For those with mental restlessness, dry mouth, and thirst, add stir-fried *Pollen Typhae* (Puhuang), use half the amount. Another method: char to retain nature, mix with Pili Jiu (Thunderbolt Wine); however, this medicine has a bad taste, charring to retain nature is excellent.
Another prescription: Ten *liang* of Trogopterori Faeces (Wulingzhi) ground to powder, five *zhan* of water, decocted to three *zhan*, dregs removed and clarified, decocted again into paste; add two *liang* of *Medicated Leaven* (Shenqu), ground to powder and mixed into pills like wutong seeds. Each dose is 20-30 pills, taken with warm wine.
