Pregnant women are highly advised to practice sexual restraint. Many women are unaware of this, and many men are also unaware, which is nearly foolish. The strength or weakness of the fetal origin, the ease or difficulty of childbirth, and postpartum conditions such as metrorrhagia, strangury, and menstrual disorders are all attributable to this factor. The reason lies in the fact that during the period when the fetal spirit is consolidating, it is crucial to protect the uterus (palace city). If one fails to exercise caution and indulges in excessive desire, leaking yin essence through lust, the protective barriers will become insecure, leading to disordered qi and blood. Consequently, offspring may suffer from congenital deficiency and premature death, and various diseases of the yin aspect will arise. This is what women must most carefully observe; those who know this must examine it closely.
Regarding methods for facilitating childbirth (slippery fetus method), the goal is merely to ensure that the time of delivery is easy and rapid. The factors determining ease or difficulty lie in whether the blood is abundant or deficient, not in the use of slippery or lubricating drugs. Abundant blood provides lubrication, making childbirth easy; deficient blood causes friction, making childbirth difficult. Therefore, before delivery, the primary approach should be to nourish qi and blood and prepare in advance. Formulas such as Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction), Huatai Jian (Fetus-Slipping Decoction), Wufu Yin (Five Blessings Drink), Xiaoying Jian (Small Camp Decoction), and Bazhen Tang (Eight Treasures Decoction) are essential for facilitating childbirth. If one does not understand this and overuses slippery agents, or if the delivery date is not near and there is no heat or stagnation, yet one recklessly employs drugs for clearing heat, moving qi, descending, or bitter-cold properties, these will secretly damage Ying (nutritive) qi and leak True Yin, often resulting in blood deficiency and qi sinking, which becomes a major hazard at the time of delivery. However, for those who are indeed obese and have excess qi, formulas such as Zisu Yin (Perilla Leaf Drink), Baosheng Wuyou San (Protect Life Without Worries Powder), and Huatai Zhike San (Fetus-Slipping Aurantium Powder) can be selected.
Siwu Tang (See Menstrual Irregularities chapter)
Huatai Jian (See *Xin Fang Ba Zhen · Yin Zhen*). When fetal qi approaches the month of delivery, it is advisable to take several doses regularly to facilitate easy birth.
Danggui (10-15g), Chuanxiong (2g), Duzhong (6g), Shudi (9g), Zhike (2g), Shanyao (6g).
Add two cups of water, decoct until reduced to approximately eight-tenths. Take warm before meals. For those with weak qi, add Renshen (Ginseng Root) and Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) as appropriate. For those with solid stools and stagnation, add Niuxi (Achyranthes Root) 3-6g.
Wufu Yin (See Early Menstruation due to Blood Heat chapter)
Xiaoying Jian (See Menstrual Disorder due to Blood Deficiency chapter)
Bazhen Tang (See Menstrual Irregularities chapter)
Zisu Yin (See Fetal Calming chapter)
Baosheng Wuyou San (See *Fu Ren Gui Ancient Formulas*). Taking this at the time of labor tonifies blood and smooths qi. It is suitable even if the placenta is thick and the root is firm, facilitating easy delivery. It also treats abdominal pain due to retained blood after spontaneous abortion.
Danggui, Chuanxiong, Baishao (White Peony Root), Ruxiang (Frankincense), Zhike, Nanmuxiang (Agarwood), Xueyu (Scorched Hair).
Equal parts. Take 6-9g per dose, decoct in water, twice daily. If the amniotic sac has ruptured and blood is exhausted, or if yuan qi is exhausted and fatigued, urgently use about 500g of Bazhen Tang with several bowls of water, decoct until ready, and drink frequently to rescue. After finishing, prepare another batch; survival is possible.
