Tang Shi stated: When infants contract dampness, the stagnation of blood and qi leads to the generation of sores. This is mostly due to parents or wet nurses failing to maintain cleanliness, not frequently changing and washing clothes and bedding, or allowing urine and feces to soil the body without washing for consecutive days, which can also macerate the skin and cause sores. When the weather is mild, frequently bathing and changing the infant's clothes is called "external venting" (Wai Xuan), and medication is unnecessary. If the infant is forced to take medicine, this is a last resort. With proper nursing, no disease will invade. Furthermore, breastfeeding should be regulated to prevent overfeeding; thus, the child's body will grow strong like a carefully tended tree. This is the principle of nursing. For bathing prescriptions: use willow twigs and Schizonepetae Herba (Jingjie) in spring; Ziziphi Spinosae Folium (Zaoye) and Sophorae Flavescentis Ramulus (Huazhi) in summer; and Saposhnikoviae Radix (Kushen) in autumn and winter. Frequent bathing ensures physical health and prevents disease through external venting. Jinhua San and other formulas for treating sores and tinea are all applicable. Mofeng Gao is excellent for applying to sores and tinea. Internally, one may take Qianghuo San added with Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng) and Schizonepetae Herba (Jingjie), as well as Dalianqiao Yin, Shengma Tang, and other preparations.
Jinhua San treats dry and damp sores and tinea.
Dan Hong (Calcined, 1 liang) Calomelas (Qingfen, 1 qian) Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai) Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian) (each 0.5 liang) Moschus (Shexiang, a small amount)
Grind the above into powder. First wash the affected area, then apply the dry powder. For dry tinea sores, mix with lard from the twelfth lunar month for application; if unavailable, use sesame oil. Huangqin Radix (Huangqin) and Rheum Palmatum Radix et Rhizoma (Dahuang) may also be added.
Mofeng Gao treats generalized scabies and tinea itching in infants.
Sophorae Flavescentis Radix (Kushen) Asphaltum (Liqing) Myrobalan Fructus (Wuyi, processed) Beeswax (Huangla) (each 1 qian) Crotonis Fructus (Badou, 3 grains, shelled) Calomelas (Qingfen, 0.5 fen) Scorpio (Quanxie, 2 pieces) Sesame Oil (Zhenshanyou, 0.5 liang)
Decoct the above in sesame oil until the Badou is scorched black. Filter out the decocted materials, add Qingfen, and mix evenly. Apply to sores and scabies for efficacy.
Another prescription for treating severe tinea: Grind Radix Arisaematis Cum Bile (Zibeigen) and a small amount of Alum (Baifan) together until paste-like, then apply to the affected area. Two applications can eradicate the root cause.
Another prescription: Use a small amount of Realgar (Pi), simmer with vinegar until it forms a paste, and apply.
Another prescription: Remove the head and feet of Mylabris (Banmao), stir-fry with glutinous rice until yellow, remove the rice, boil Chinese Jujube (Huazao) until cooked, peel and take the flesh to form pills. Mix with saliva for topical application, which is particularly effective.
