Abdominal pain is mostly caused by the mutual conflict between pathogenic factors and healthy qi, and the striking against the qi of the zang-fu organs. Abdominal pain accompanied by heat must present with a red face or high fever, restlessness in the four limbs, and heat in the palms and soles. Abdominal pain accompanied by cold must present with a pale or bluish complexion, and cold hands and feet. If the cold is severe and transforms into other symptoms, the face becomes dark, lips and mouth turn black, and all fingernails become blue. For heat syndromes, Sishun Qingliang Yin (Four-Compliance Cooling Decoction) added with Qingpi (Green Tangerine Peel) and Zhike (Bitter Orange) is used; for cold syndromes, Qiqi Tang (Seven-Qi Decoction) added with Lagui (Cinnamon Twig) is used, along with Suhe Xiang Wan (Styrax Pill). If pathogenic factors and healthy qi conflict, and cold and heat are unbalanced, Jiegeng Zhike Tang (Platycodon and Bitter Orange Decoction) added with Qingpi, Chenpi (Aged Tangerine Peel), Muxiang (Aucklandia Root), and Danggui (Angelica Sinensis) is most effective. For internal suspension syndromes, Gouteng Yin (Uncaria Decoction) is used. For other cases, Shaoyao Gancao Tang (Peony and Licorice Decoction) is the essential medicine. For excess pain with heat, Dachaihu Tang (Major Bupleurum Decoction) is the primary treatment. For severe heart and abdominal pain with excess heat, Dachengqi Tang (Major Order the Qi Decoction) is used to purge. For abdominal pain, Guizhi Ji Shaoyao Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction Modified with Peony) is used; for severe pain, Guizhi Jia Dahuang Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction Added with Rhubarb) is used.
