The wife of Mr. Wu Renfeng from Xinan, Shexian, suffered from distension and urgency in both hypochondriac regions, with pain radiating to the epigastrium. Each episode of pain was accompanied by sweating. Both malar areas were red, as were the lips and mouth. Any food or liquid ingested was immediately vomited; this state had persisted for three days and nights. Upon examination, the Cun (inch) pulses on both hands were flooding and large (Hong Da), while the Chi (cubit) pulses on both hands were deep and faint (Chen Wei). I prepared half a bowl of well water mixed with half a bowl of boiled water, naming it "Yin-Yang Decoction" (Yin Yang Tang). Using this mixture, I administered one qian 5 fen of Xuanming Fen (Mirabilite/Natrii Sulfas) orally. Not only did vomiting cease, but the pain also reduced by half. Shortly after, she defecated twice. However, because she consumed tofu and congee too early, the pain recurred, and her lips and face became red again. This indicated that parasites were likely the cause. I prescribed Bai Shaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Alba), Guizhi (Ramulus Cinnamomi), Fangancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata), Wumei (Fructus Mume), Huajiao (Pericarpium Zanthoxyli), Wulingzhi (Trogopteri Dung), and Xingren (Semen Armeniacae Amarum) decocted in water. The pain subsided significantly. Subsequently, I prescribed Cangzhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Chinensis), Houpo (Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis), Shanzha (Fructus Crataegi), Zhishi (Fructus Aurantii Immaturus), Fuling (Poria), Yanhusuo (Rhizoma Corydalis), and Xiangfu (Rhizoma Cyperi) in one dose, which completely stopped the pain. However, she still experienced external skin pain over the heart and back, making it difficult to lie on the mat. She was treated with Chuanxiong (Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong), Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae), Houpo, Dafupi (Pericarpium Arecae Fructus), Fangancao, Fuling, Xiangfu, Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae), and Banxia (Rhizoma Pinelliae Ternatae) for recuperation, leading to full recovery.
The wife of Brother Chen Tie suffered from abdominal pain, fever, and dysentery with pus and blood postpartum, accompanied by tenesmus (Li Ji Hou Zhong). The prescription consisted of: Chuanxiong 2 qian, Danggui 3 qian, Fuling, Ganjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens), Rougui (Cortex Cinnamomi), Shanzha, Chenpi, Jiu Chao Bai Shaoyao (Bai Shaoyao stir-fried with wine), and Baizhu, each 1 qian, and Fangancao 5 fen. After one dose, the abdominal pain ceased, dysentery lightened, and tenesmus disappeared. However, chills, fever, and excessive sweating persisted. The formula was changed to Renshen (Radix Ginseng), Bai Shaoyao, Guizhi, Fangancao, Chuanxiong, Danggui, Baizhu, Fuling, Xiangfu, Chenpi, and Shanzha. After two additional doses, all symptoms resolved as if released.
An elderly woman in the Cheng household, over eighty years old, frequently suffered from dizziness and weak legs, unable to support her upper body upright. She required assistance to walk; otherwise, she would experience vertigo and fall. Her stools were loose, and urination was dribbling. This condition was attributed to deficiency and exhaustion of the Lower Yuan (Kidney Qi). The prescription included: Renshen, Huangqi (Radix Astragali Membranacei), Baizhu, and Yiyiren (Semen Coicis), each 2 qian; Shanzhuyu (Fructus Corni Officinalis), Duzhong (Cortex Eucommiae Ulmoidis), and Fuling, each 1 qian; and Chenpi, Shanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae Polystachyae), and Fangancao, each 8 fen. After eight doses, she recovered.
