The wife of my nephew, Dai, had been pregnant for five months. Suddenly, she experienced massive bleeding. In the afternoon, she developed chills; all six pulses were rapid (Shu), the left Cun pulse was slippery and large (Hua Da), the right Guan pulse was forceful against the finger (Bo Zhi), and the left Guan pulse was soft and weak (Ruan Ruo). I prescribed Baishao Yao (Radix Paeoniae Alba) 2 qian, Shengdi (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata), Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini), Renshen (Radix Ginseng), and Puhuang (Pollen Typhae) each 1 qian, Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri), Xiangfu (Rhizoma Cyperi), Diyu (Herba Sanguisorbae), and Jingjie Sui (Fructus Schizonepetae Preparatus) each 0.7 fen, and Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) 0.5 fen, decocted and administered orally. In the afternoon, she experienced alternating chills and fever, occurring three times every night, accompanied by headache, nausea, a hard mass in the abdomen, and the passage of many blood clots. She felt weakness and fear in the epigastrium; this was undoubtedly a deficiency syndrome. Therefore, I prescribed Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Decoction to Supplement the Middle and Augment the Qi) with added Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini), Paoyang (Prepared Ginger), Baishao Yao (Radix Paeoniae Alba), and Wumei (Fructus Mume), decocted and administered. In the afternoon, a white blister appeared on the sclera of her right eye, which became swollen, red, and drooping, and her face also swelled; this was a symptom of uncontrolled wandering deficient fire. That night, she suffered severe chills and fever, her fingernails turned black, her lips were pale, she sweated profusely, and abdominal pain radiated to both breasts. I again prescribed Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Decoction to Supplement the Middle and Augment the Qi) with added Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini), Baishao Yao (Radix Paeoniae Alba), Guizhi (Ramulus Cinnamomi), Wuweizi (Fructus Schisandrae), and Maidong (Radix Ophiopogonis). After administration, the fever subsided, sweating stopped, thirst was relieved, and her spirit slightly stabilized, indicating a return of vitality. The next day, she coughed and miscarried. I immediately continued treatment with Dushen Tang (Decoction of Single Ginseng). That night, she had borborygmus and diarrhea twice. I prescribed Renshen (Radix Ginseng) and Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae) each 3 qian, Zhigancao (Prepared Radix Glycyrrhizae) 1.5 qian, Paoyang (Prepared Ginger) 1 qian, Guixin (Cortex Cinnamomi), and Fuling (Poria) each 0.5 fen, Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae) 0.7 fen, Lianzi (Semen Nelumbinis), and Dazao (Fructus Jujubae), decocted and administered. Later, due to coughing, she was regulated and cured using Sijunzi Tang (Decoction of Four Gentlemen) with added Paoyang (Prepared Ginger), Wuweizi (Fructus Schisandrae), and Ziwan (Radix Asteris).
Madam Lingyue, the wife of Mr. Lingyue, suffered from epigastric pain, heat in the palms, dizziness, numbness of the tongue, pain in both temples, and distension in the back. She felt internal heat but external aversion to cold, requiring thick blankets to cover herself, and relief came only after slight sweating. I prescribed Erchen Tang (Two-Aged Decoction) with added Jiegeng (Radix Platycodi), Xingren (Semen Armeniacae Amarum), Sangbaipi (Cortex Mori), Zhike (Fructus Aurantii Immaturus), Qingpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae Viride), Baijiezhi (Semen Sinapis Albae), Luobozhi (Semen Raphani), and Jiuhuang Qin (Scutellariae Radix Prepared with Wine), decocted and administered. After two doses, her tongue numbness completely resolved. However, that evening, due to excessive consumption of chicken, there was qi stagnation above the diaphragm. She was regulated and cured using Erchen Tang (Two-Aged Decoction) with added Luobozhi (Semen Raphani), Zhishi (Fructus Aurantii), Shanzha (Fructus Crataegi), Chuanxiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong), Xiangfu (Rhizoma Cyperi), and Jiulian (Coptidis Rhizoma Prepared with Wine).
