Discourse on Ke Wu (Guest Intrusion) in Infants. When an infant is first born, due to being in a different room or household, the incoming breath may intrude upon them. This is also known as "Zhong Ren" (Hitting a Person), which constitutes Ke Wu. Furthermore, if family members return from riding horses and carry the scent of horse sweat, or if their clothes are stained with foul and violent odors, and they approach the infant without washing hands or changing clothes, all these situations can cause intrusion.
Discourse on Infants Not Urinating After Birth. This is generally caused by the mother consuming toxic substances such as fermented residues, pickled foods, fried, roasted, or grilled items during pregnancy. The heat qi flows into the womb, and the fetus drinks this contaminated blood, resulting in abdominal distension and kidney swelling after birth. If bluish-black discoloration is observed around the umbilicus along with mouth contraction (Kou Cuo), it is incurable. For those with bluish-black discoloration who refuse to nurse, administer Cong Ru Tang (Scallion and Milk Decoction): cut scallion whites into four pieces, mix with half a small cup of milk, decoct briefly, divide into four doses, and administer. Urination will then be unobstructed; infants refusing to nurse will begin feeding after administration.
Discourse on Night Crying in Infants. This is caused by pathogenic heat invading the Heart. Huahuo Gao (Fire-Transforming Paste) is suitable: use three lamp wick flowers, mix with milk, and apply to the infant's mouth, or apply to the mother's breast milk for the infant to suckle.
For night crying caused by violating taboos, fumigation with vinegar-charcoal is suitable, along with oral administration of Suhexiang Wan (Styrax Pill).
For persistent night crying, treated as Heat and Deficiency in the Heart Meridian: Anshen San (Calming the Spirit Powder). Ingredients: Renshen (Ginseng Root), Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome) stir-fried with ginger juice (each 1.5 qian), Gancao (Licorice Root) (0.5 qian). The herbs are coarsely crushed. Add twenty leaves of Zhuye (Bamboo Leaf) and one slice of Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger), decoct with water, and take orally.
Another prescription for treating fright-induced crying: Use ash made from burning disordered hair (Luansha), mixed with wine for oral administration.
Regarding night crying seemingly caused by malevolent spirits: Take seven Cicada Sloughs (Chantui), powder the lower half. For a newborn, stir-fry until it weighs one zi (a traditional unit of weight), and administer with Bohe Tang (Mint Decoction) mixed with a little wine. If there is disbelief, powder the upper half, decoct similarly, and administer; however, crying persists as before. The profound wisdom of ancient prescriptions is difficult to fully comprehend.
Discourse on Zhong E Tian Diao (Sudden Evil Attack with Upward Deviation). This results from exposure to pathogenic qi. Infants suddenly struck by malignant toxins present with severe stabbing pain in the heart and abdomen, extreme restlessness, and a sensation of impending death. Pixie Gao (Evil-Averting Ointment/Paste) treats Zhong E. Ingredients: Zhen Jiangxiang (Agarwood/Red Sandalwood), Bai Jiaoxiang (Elemi Resin), Chenxiang (Aloewood), Hutou Gu (Tiger Skull Bone), Toutou Rou (Rabbit Meat - *Note: Historical text, ethically obsolete*), Longdancao (Gentian Root), Renshen (Ginseng Root), Baifuling (Poria with Removed Bark) (each 5 qian). Grind into fine powder. Add Xionghuang (Realgar) 5 qian and Muxiang (Musk) 1 qian. Form pills with refined honey. Administer with Rushui (Frankincense Water).
