Behind the ear, above the mastoid process (Wangu), if there are blue veins appearing like lines, two or three in number, and the infant sleeps restlessly, this is a sign of epilepsy. Acupuncture should be performed, pinching the skin until blood flows out, as a minor treatment. If the eyes are swollen and ulcerated, it is a fatal sign.
Behind the thumb, on the thenar eminency (Yuji), if the tendons and vessels appear cyanotic or blackish, it indicates cold in the stomach; if red and yellow, it indicates heat; if mixed with red, cyanotic, and black, it indicates mixed cold and heat. If the color is cyanotic and the shape is short and small, it indicates deficiency of Qi (Shaoqi).
At the "crossed hands" area, specifically at the Hegu point (Hukou) between the first and second fingers of the hand, if tendons and vessels appear like lines, observe their color and curvature to determine the disease. If the line is straight, it indicates fright (Jing); if curved, it indicates food injury (Shang); if deep and hidden, it indicates wind (Feng).
Curving outward indicates cold; curving inward indicates food retention (Shi).
[Verse]
Blue lines straight at the tiger's mouth indicate fright in the four limbs.
Blackness originates from water pathogen; redness comes from fire and birds.
Pale red indicates human fright onset; purple curves suggest trauma.
Outward curve is cold, inward curve is food.
Deep and hidden confirms wind generation.
Longer lines mean severe illness; shorter ones imply peace and safety.
Just look at the crossed-hand area to verify the truth of the condition.
The three segments on the dorsal side of the first finger are named the Three Passes (San Guan). Observe boys on the left hand and girls on the right. There are eight types of vascular patterns used to diagnose diseases, known as the Eight Brocade Patterns (Ba Pian Jin). The lowest segment is called the Qi Pass (Qi Guan). If the pattern extends beyond this pass, the disease has just become serious. Since various diseases arise when Qi circulation is unsmooth, it is named the Qi Pass. The second segment is called the Wind Pass (Feng Guan). If the pattern extends beyond this pass, convulsions and wind-stroke will occur, gradually becoming heavier, hence named the Wind Pass. The third segment is called the Life Pass (Ming Guan). If the pattern extends beyond this pass, the disease is extreme and life is in danger, hence named the Life Pass.

At the Life Pass, convulsions transmit into chronic convulsive disorders (Man Jing Feng), an extreme condition.

Onset of fright with body heat definitely causes disharmony.

[Verse]
Shape like the character 'water' indicates lung fright.
Deficiency accumulation transmits, face turns cyanotic.
Phlegm-rheum above the diaphragm must be treated.
If it passes the Life Pass, there will be no peace.
Yi-character shape (also called middle curve): Mainly indicates food fright. At the Qi Pass, it indicates food injury with vomiting and dysentery. At the Wind Pass, it transmits into wind disorders. The Yi shape belongs to the Liver; liver wood overacts on spleen earth. At the Life Pass, it transmits into chronic spleen wind (Man Pi Feng), which is untreatable.
[Verse]
Shape like the curved Yi character, the cause lies in the Liver.
Slow eyes, fright crying, and spasms on one side.
Cold accumulation causes injury and transmission.
Chronic spleen wind has passed the Three Passes.
Departing snake shape: Mainly indicates internal excess and external deficiency. Approaching snake shape: Mainly indicates external excess and internal deficiency. Coiled snake shape: Both internal and external are deficient. These several shapes are all called Curved Worms (Qu Chong) or Curved Snakes. At the Qi Pass, it indicates malnutrition syndrome (Gan Ji). At the Wind Pass, it indicates consumption with fright. At the Life Pass, it is untreatable.

Chaotic line shape: Mainly indicates worm pain. At the Qi Pass, it indicates Qi disharmony and worm accumulation, eating raw things. At the Wind Pass, it indicates worm-biting heart and abdominal pain. At the Life Pass, the disease is exhausted and extremely difficult to treat.
[Verse]
Chaotic lines crisscross, seek worms.
Crying day and night cannot be suppressed.
Praying to gods and Buddhas yields no response.
Calming worms and removing accumulation brings health.
Pearl shape fatal sign: This sign does not depend on whether it is above or below the Three Passes; seeing it indicates a fatal prognosis.
[Verse]

If seen at the Three Passes, give up hope.
Arrange funeral affairs without doubt.
