Pediatric wind disorder urticaria refers to a condition in children where the skin is tender and blood and qi are weak. It may occur because warm clothing causes the cou li (skin pores) to open loosely, or due to hot weather causing sweat to seep out, suddenly being invaded by wind pathogen. The wind pathogen contends with blood and qi, stagnating between the skin layers without dissipating, thus forming urticaria. These rashes grow connectedly, resembling slices of ginger root. Mild cases are called "wind macules" (Feng Ban), where the color does not change; severe cases are called "urticaria" (Yin Zhen), turning red-purple, accompanied by itching that cannot be relieved by scratching. Severe cases may even cause mental restlessness and confusion.
First, observe the color of the rash: If white, soak Achyranthes Bidentata Root (Niuxi) in wine overnight, bake until dry, and grind into powder. Take one qian or half a qian each time, mixed with warm wine. If red, grind kitchen hearth earth into fine powder, mix with ginger and honey water, and take one qian or half a qian.
Another external wash prescription, treating as above:
Herbs: Schizonepeta Spike (Jingjie), Asarum Root (Xixin, removed seedlings), Angelica Dahurica Root (Baizhi), Mint Leaf (Bohe Ye) (equal parts).
Grind the above herbs into coarse powder. Use two large spoons per dose, with one bucket of water. Take one plant of Rumex Patientiae (Yangti Cai), including roots, leaves, branches, and stems, finely chopped. Decoct together until the leaves are soft. Pour into a basin. First, bathe the body with ordinary hot water to induce sweating. Then, rinse with the herbal decoction. Avoid wind after washing. Contraindicated: seafood and toxic fermented sauces.
Another external application prescription, treating as above: Dissolve 1.2 qian of Alum (Bai Fan) in warm wine. Apply using horsehair tufts.
Fangfeng Tang (Saposhnikovia Decoction)
Treating as above.
Herbs: Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng, removed rhizome and branched twigs), Burdock Fruit (Shuniuzi), Schizonepeta Spike (Jingjiesui), Ginseng Root (Renshen, removed rhizome, each 1 liang), Licorice Root (Gancao, honey-fried), Gastrodia Rhizome (Tianma) (each 0.5 liang).
Grind the above herbs into fine powder. Take one qian per dose, add 0.8 fen of water, add a small amount of fresh Ginger (Shengjiang) and Mint (Bohe). Decoct until reduced to 0.5 fen. Strain and take warm.
Treatment for sudden onset wind rash: Use Calcined Iron Ore (Duanshi) in any quantity, mix with sour plum water, and apply topically. It disappears immediately upon application.
Treatment for pediatric urticaria: If untreated, the pathogen entering the abdomen can be fatal. Wash first with salt water, then apply mashed Polygonum Persicaria Seeds (Liaozi). Alternatively, grind Zanthoxylum Fructus (Zhiqiao) into powder, decoct in water, and wash. Another method: use 2 qian of Mulberry Silkworm Excrement (Cansha), boil in two bowls of water until reduced to one bowl, and wash.
