(Comprising five verses, involving three formulas)
The scabs should fall off but are delayed; one must fear that the condition may worsen at this time. Tonifying the Spleen and securing the exterior has miraculous efficacy; do not hesitate or lightly abandon medication.
After the pox resolves (shou ye), the scab crusts naturally become residual. If they adhere to the skin and flesh without detaching, it indicates Deficiency of the Exterior. One must strictly avoid delay and cannot remain passive, fearing other complications may arise. It is appropriate to treat with Tiaoyuan Guben Tang (Regulating Origin and Solidifying Root Decoction).
When the pox resolves, if the scabs do not fall off, and the child is lethargic and prone to sleep, do not sigh. This is solely due to weakness in the Spleen and Stomach. Regulation and treatment should focus specifically on strengthening the Earth elements (Spleen and Stomach) for optimal results.
This syndrome is caused by Spleen and Stomach deficiency leading to excessive sleepiness. The Stomach belongs to Wu Earth, and the Spleen belongs to Ji Earth. It is suitable to strengthen the Spleen and open the stomach appetite; use Tiaoyuan Qingshen Tang (Regulating Origin and Clearing Spirit Decoction) to awaken the spirit.
After the scabs fall off, observe the scar tissue (pan). If it is smooth, red, and fresh, the patient will gradually recover. If it is uneven and dark/blackish, apply topical medications to restore the form.
After the ulcer's scab falls off, if the scar is smooth and vibrant red, it is auspicious; if the scar tissue protrudes or is depressed and purple-black, the prognosis is uncertain. Apply Miehen San (Scar-Removing Powder) externally.
Why rush if the scabs fall off naturally? Pinching or picking risks invasion by pathogenic factors. In later years, this may develop into Xuefeng Yang (Blood Wind Ulcer); currently, if it oozes and weeps, tears can be shed in vain. There is no need to worry about the timing of scab shedding. Why do the head and feet linger longer? Yin and Yang exist in solitude like widowers and widows; how can they all dry up simultaneously!
Whatever is generated by Yang requires Yin to complete it; whatever is generated by Yin requires Yang to complete it. The Classics state: "Solitary Yang does not generate; solitary Yin does not form." The resolution of sores divides the face above and below the Renzhong point (GV26). Above the hairline is Yang within Yang, called Solitary Yang; below the knees and feet is Yin within Yin, called Solitary Yin. Therefore, when sores resolve, these two areas often linger and fail to dry quickly. Medication should not be administered here; allowing nature to take its course is auspicious.

Litharge (Miduoseng) ground into fine powder. Mix with human breast milk to apply to scars; if breast milk is unavailable, honey may be used. If applied, convexities will flatten, and purple-black discoloration will fade. Response indicates an auspicious outcome; lack of response indicates an ominous outcome.
