Taiyang cold damage and common cold are relatively mild conditions; slight fever usually subsides naturally. Take one qian of Zisu (Perilla Leaf), two slices of Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger), and ten grains of Douchi (Fermented Soybean); after ingestion, the body will return to tranquility.
Tianbao Caiwei Dan: Applicable to both adults and children for common colds in all four seasons. It should be taken with Ginger Decoction. If there is no sweating, add Congbai (Scallion White) and dissolve it before taking two to three qian. For children, take one to two qian, or seven to eight fen. If the illness persists, a second dose will be effective. However, children have tender constitutions and delicate vital energy. Once exposed to external pathogens, wind may trigger convulsions, epilepsy, malaria, leading to rampant phlegm-fire that obstructs the lung orifices, causing limb twitching and difficulty in vocalization. First, use this formula to open the lung orifices, disperse external pathogens, regulate qi, resolve phlegm, and harmonize the spleen and stomach. In this way, more than half of the illness will be eliminated.
Ingredients: Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber), Guangpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Fuling (Poria), Zipu (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Huoxiang (Agastaches Herba), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) (equal parts).

Children suffering from wind-cold injury suddenly experience headache, nasal congestion, yawning, rapid breathing, fever, and a floating pulse. This is characteristic of wind-cold. Since the Lung governs the skin and hair, wind invading the skin and hair often causes coughing. The fingerprint appears red-purple and elongated, indicating an exterior syndrome. Another presentation involves wind-cold leading to diarrhea, abdominal distension, and cold hands and feet, which indicates Spleen deficiency; treatment should harmonize the Spleen while simultaneously dispersing the pathogen. Another case presents with tidal fever, excessive salivation, coarse breathing, vomiting, indigestion of milk and food, yellowish-white stools accompanied by coughing, caused by Cold damaging the Spleen and Lung, impairing their ability to receive and transform. If wind-cold is accompanied by tearing, hypochondriac pain, swollen eyes, and coughing, it involves the Liver syndrome. Excessive sweating with coughing indicates the Heart syndrome. Yellowish complexion, swollen lips, poor appetite, and nausea indicate involvement of the Spleen syndrome. Pale face, swollen eyelids, and rapid upper-body breathing indicate Lung Qi deficiency. Coughing accompanied by lower back pain indicates involvement of the Kidney syndrome.
Renshen Baidu San: Treats common colds in all seasons and wind-cold coughing in children. For cases where coughing is productive but difficult to expectorate, take two or three doses per administration, without limiting the number of doses, until the phlegm is cleared.
Ingredients: Shashen (Glehniae Radix), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Jingjie (Schizonepetae Spica) (each one qian), with one slice of Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) as a guide. For Liver involvement, double Chaihu and add Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), with a slight addition of Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride). For Heart involvement, double Duhuo and add Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus) and Mutong (Akebiae Caulis). For Spleen involvement, add Shenqu (Medicated Leaven), Shanzha (Crataegi Fructus), and Maiya (Hordei Fructus Germinatus).
