Zhong'e (Sudden Collapse due to Evil Qi) is a critical and malignant condition in pediatrics. There are two types of this disease. One type involves contracting toxic evil qi from the exterior, where the pathogen enters from outside. Symptoms include dizziness and collapse, cold limbs, clenched fists, and dyspnea or inability to breathe. Initially, Pili San (Thunderbolt Powder) should be used: Rhododendri Mollis Flos (Zhi Zhu Hua, 1.5 fen), Realgar (Xiong Huang, 3 fen), and Moschus (She Xiang, a small amount). These are ground into powder. A three-cun long rush pith (Deng Xin Cao) is dipped into the powder and inserted into the nostril; the patient will regain consciousness immediately after sneezing. Subsequently, Suhe Wan (Styrax Pill) should be administered orally, or Shengsheng Yin (Life-Preserving Decoction) may be given: Pinelliae Tuber Preparatum (Nan Xing, roasted, 1.5 qian), Pinelliae Tuber (Ban Xia, washed, 1.5 qian), Aquilariae Lignum (Mu Xiang, 1.5 qian), Atractylodis Rhizoma (Cang Zhu, raw, 1 qian), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gan Cao, raw, 1 qian), and Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma (Shi Chang Pu, 1 qian). The herbs are cut into pieces, cooked with fresh ginger root in water, and taken orally. Treatment continues until one dose is consumed and the condition stabilizes.
The other type involves internally generated toxic substances, where the pathogen arises from within. Symptoms include stabbing pain in the heart and abdomen, cyanotic or blackish discoloration of the abdominal skin, and severe restlessness resembling impending death. This requires urgent purgation, primarily treated with Xionghuang Jiedu Wan (Realgar Detoxification Pill).
Baihu Syndrome (White Tiger Syndrome) refers to the influence of the "White Tiger" deity located at the ninth position preceding the annual branch. If a child offends this deity, they suffer from mental confusion, fixed gaze without eye movement, and hand movements resembling counting objects. Zhisheng Baoming Dan (Supreme Sacred Life-Preserving Pill) is indicated. Take Fus Long Gan (Vermilion Dragon Liver, i.e., sediment from the bottom of a clay cooking stove), crush it, decoct it in water, and use the liquid to swallow the pill, adhering to the principle of mutual restraint between the Dragon and the Tiger.
A question was raised: What qi causes the conditions of Kewu (Guest Invasion), Zhong'e, and Baihu? The answer is that all are caused by Keqi (Guest Qi), which is aberrant qi. The qi inherent in the child is called Zhengqi (Upright Qi); what invades it is called Keqi. As stated in the classics: "Where pathogenic factors gather, upright qi must be deficient." Therefore, if a child's Zhengqi is strong, even if exposed to Keqi, it cannot cause invasion. If Zhengqi is weak, slight invasion leads to disease. Kewu is the general term for such diseases. Zhong'e is the severe form of Kewu, while Baihu is the mild form. The treatment principles focus on expelling evil, supporting upright qi, calming the spirit, and harmonizing the stomach. Suhe Xiang Wan (Styrax Pill) is considered the miraculous medicine for treating these three conditions.
Chongbing (Parasitic Disease) refers to cardiac pain caused by Ascaris attacking the heart region. During an attack, symptoms include staring eyes, locked jaw preventing speech, loud crying, salivation, pale or bluish complexion, and rigid limbs. Urgent purgation is required. Use Xionghuang Jiedu Wan (Realgar Detoxification Pill), taken with a decoction of Cortex Radicail Celi (Kulian Gen Pi).
